  1. Putting up a better FIP or xFIP doesn't mean someone is performing better.
  2. we need to be willing to give up a piece that will hurt. Braun? Weeks? Both? McGehee, Green, Heether, even Gamel isn't going to get you a high likelihood top of the rotation starter. You might be able to package Lawrie and some other pieces. FWIW, over the past year I can remember discussions of or by Melvin of attempts to trade with Baltimore, Toronto, Detroit and others. I know a lot of people think they should have signed Lackey. That could have been a bad signing.
  3. Bush averages a little over 6 innings per start in his career. He hasn't pitched 9 innings since '06.
  4. McGehee isn't 3B only. Gamel is accumulating service time because of when he was injured. By the way, fan was an abbreviation for fanatic in the 19th century.
  5. Baiting is being deliberately annoying. Putting it in a sig file amplifies it.
  6. You may not consider it but there is another alternative: you are wrong. I read most of the stuff posted on the site. There is lots of stuff about how Macha isn't emotional like Yost or go postal over little things and is thus a bad manager. You don't provide much of an argument. Your only example is Gamel and it doesn't seem to reflect his injuries well or acknowledge that there may be factors you aren't aware of. Based on that every post you make baits anyone who isn't willing to make the leaps you do with an inflammatory sig file.
  7. I guess Macha's job is to coach the players on this team. But he comes off as very uninformed as well. No wonder prospects die under Macha. Maybe Cain isn't that far from coming off the DL. Maybe its a veiled suggestion that he wants someone right handed. I find the whole notion that prospects die under Macha fairly bizarre. I suppose the idea that the manager is terrible is a constant with all managers and all fanbases, but it sure is odd to couple it with a comment by Macha that he'd like to have a prospect with the team.
  8. Who is number 4 on the Sounds? My internet skills are lacking - I couldn't find it on the Sounds site. I'm kind of surprised that Ferrell did his thing in the middle of the game. Kind of funny though.
  9. JSonline, talk radio or some of the stuff i read here - its not all that different. I think the idea that Macha has some hatred for prospects or just isn't smart enough to know when to play them is pretty out there.
  10. "Average" could mean just below the best or just above the worst. The Yankees have below average players.
  11. As long as he's young, assuming he remains a reliever, I'd like to see him get the role that Marmol had for the Cubs in '08. Whenever there is trouble, bring him in - sort of a "fireman." Is there another word for a guy who fills that role? Let him do that for 2 or 3 years before "promoting" him to closer.
  12. The Brewers are looking for a catcher?
  13. I hope everything works out. ADD is poorly understood and over diagnosed. Its treatment is poorly understood and medications are over prescribed and can be quite problematic as it sounds like Angel found out. Its good he's doing what he is doing now, as it sounds like he will be counseled and monitored till he reaches a point where he can get his mind working with his physical talents. Remember coach, no matter what the subject, when you get a large enough group of humans to comment on any subject, there are going to be ones who make incorrect assumptions and criticize people unfairly.
  14. Is this criticism? I don't think its an accurate representation of what happened, but I see similar versions. He should be traded regardless of offer? If there is a constant in fandom, its unrealistic trade scenarios like Hardy could have netted a cost controlled top of the rotation starter. I also don't think they're putting a lesser team on the field to sell more tickets. Winning sells tickets.
  15. Well, 100 million isn't token, especially when it was an opening offer. So you want to move Fielder tomorrow. I assume you don't see the team being competitive this year or next. Do you think they have a chance in '12 or '13? If the team is acknowledging that they have no chance in the next two years, do you think they should trade some more players? Get rid of Rickie and Hart obviously, but maybe Parra. Dump Counsell and anyone else on the bench at the deadline if you get anything.
  16. He was offered back of the rotation starters for Hardy after he held onto him too long. He was shopped before the deadline. I can remember him discussing it in radio interviews. They'll make an offer, make it public, and when the player signs elsewhere say "We tried."... that's just not good enough for me. Again, did you want them to blow the Yankees out of the water? Did you want them to start at 200 million or something? Did you want them to not make an offer? They were never given an opportunity to match the Yankees. Making a huge offer and being willing to add to it isn't good enough for you.
  17. He offered up players for pitching. He was offered back bottom of the rotation starters. If you want to extrapolate that into something bad, go ahead. So what were they supposed to offer Sabathia? You say he failed. Should they have opened with a bid to blow away NY?
  18. I wonder if using streaming and akamai is an MLB decision. I can play them, but the app that does it first tells me its screwed up. The tone of Money's voice gives me the impression its not an injury or some secret time out for bad behavior. Maybe, given that he was in ST, they're giving him a little breather. Money fits well with the org though - he called Adam "Sterny."
  19. Hardy, Hart and probably Fielder were offered up for pitching. The offers coming back weren't good so the team has Gogo, Hart and Fielder. What would a creative offer be? More players? If the team making an offer and not getting an opportunity to bid back isn't good enough, I guess they have to significantly surpass the market. Two hundred million for Sabathia? Two fifty for Fielder?
  20. Going 7 innings and not giving up a run with only one strikeout sounds hard to do.
  21. Kottaras has barely played and his numbers are okay. And wouldn't you know it, Zaun had a big night.
  22. The idea of retaliation isn't revenge, its prevention. People getting hit get injured. Braun or Weeks could end up with a broken hand or wrist. Getting a free base probably wouldn't offset that.
  23. You make it sound as if yesterday was unusual for Bush. And he gave up 3 runs to the Cards in less than 6, junked the Cubs and then got hit pretty hard by the Pirates, followed by yesterday. About the only thing different about yesterday was that he bent over rather than doing his trademark squat when guys were beating him like Joe Pesci in Casino. How many times have we seen the Dave Bush squat? If there was a word that could probably get a high rate of agreement on to describe him, inconsistent is the word. Nobody is turning on Dave Bush because of one bad game. And yesterday was awful.
  24. There is talk of Jeff Karstens getting a start day after tomorrow. Get ready for more replays of Grits and Dave Kerwin jawing. I have to admit it still makes me laugh. I'd guess that Zach Duke threw at Rickie last time. He probably wanted it neck high and got it a bit higher than that. If they plunk anyone, skip the young guys who probably have nothing to do with it, hit Duke.
