Now that it's officially 2011, who's gonna be in mid-season form when softball starts? I'm trying to stay in shape this winter, or at least keep my arm loose. I've been playing dodgeball the past couple months and this Monday January 3rd we are starting a new segment. We play every Monday at the YMCA in Greenfield (HWY 100 & Beloit Rd.) @ 7:30pm. It's a co-ed league with 6-8 teams and about 6-10 players to a team. We play a best-of-three against each team in round-robin style. Some of us get competitive but it's all in good fun. We have two teams sponsored by Club Paragon, one team is set but the other is in need of a few more players. You wouldn't have to pay anything and you get a temporary YMCA membership pass that is only good on Mondays. I know this is short notice since we start tomorrow night, but you can join in at anytime. Cities that have a bigger Chinese/Japanese population. This was a big deal for Yi Jianlian when he was drafted by the Bucks. No matter what the talent level, those fresh athletes from overseas appeal most to their heritage. Then guys like Nomo and Saito, towards the end of their careers, just care about getting a job. Because of Milwaukee not even breaking 1% of the Chinese/Japanese residents in the US, there is no reason to send scouts there.

I feel the same way. Marcum for a our 2B prospect after we extended Weeks, bye-bye Lawrie. I might be a little biased there because Weeks is one of my favorite, but I don't think Lawrie wanted a move to the outfield and that's the only chance he had coming up to the Brewers. Greinke for 3 prospects and a SS swap, Escobar = Bentancourt. Bentancourt had a couple respectable years at Seattle so maybe this move to a better offensive team can light a fire under his behind. Escobar is still young and has a lot of learning to do, which to Crew don't seem to have time for right now if they want to go for it right now. I'm fine with a Bentancourt/Counsell 75/25 split. Jeffress looks very good, can't stand people that have opportunity like he does but is involved with drugs. It seems to be a tough habit to break. Odorizzi has a lot of promise but still needs a at least 2 more years in the minors. Then we come to Cain. This one is tough because he can be very good player. Look how Nelson Cruz turned out, and I think Cain is more seasoned and better than Cruz was back then. He is major league ready and it would have been nice to see what he can bring to the table full time. BUT, we now have a starting rotation we've all been asking for. Nothing ever comes free or cheap. At the end of the day, I love these moves and hopefully we can go for it this year. **Knocks on wood** Now let's all stay healthy!!! -
That flying roundhouse off the fence was SICK! I agree Patrick, that is the best fight I've seen this year. Started out slow with both guys feeling out their gameplan, great back and forth action through the whole thing. Henderson might have won the decision ifn't it wasn't for those last couple minutes in the 5th. Congrats to Pettis for retiring the WEC lightweight belt. I expect it to be displayed at Duke Roufus Academy here in Milwaukee forever. I cannot wait to see his UFC title fight against Edgar or Maynard.

The World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) is converting into the UFC at the beginning of next year. That also means that the UFC will have bantamweights and featherweights. The last event for the WEC is Thursday, December 16th 2010 LIVE on VERSUS. The main fight on this card is Milwaukee's own Anthony Pettis vs. Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson. Winner will retire the WEC championship and will face Frankie Edgar (if he's still champion at the time) for the undisputed UFC lightweight championship. For anyone that likes MMA, support our hometown kid!

Congrats to him. He deserves it IMO. He's a pretty decent career and he was stuck being the best player in Washington. Now he's on a better team. -
Anyone know anything about him making a trip to the MLB anytime soon? I remember back in '04 I think, everyone was saying this kid was gonna be the greatest pitcher to come out of Japan. Just did a little bit of research on him and it looks like he is currently the top pitcher in the Japanese professional league.

So again it looks like there is one open spot on the brewers starting rotation (maybe 2). Of the list of free agents, realistically who would you want? Free Agent Starting Pitchers I'm taking out the obvious choice, so I'd like to see Pavano as our 2-3 guy. If we re-sign Bush, I'd be happy with getting Bedard.

Nothing wrong with that, I'm actually thinking of doing some training this winter, like hitting up Mike Hegan's Field of Dreams or Grand Slam USA. Right now I'm working the throwing arm playing dodgeball every Monday, finally over my elbow tendonitis.

Anyone have a good site or method to find value in cards? I have a lot of scattered cards from the '80, '90, and '00 (baseball, football, basketball), along with complete sets of baseball Donruss '82, '83, '85, '86, and '87. I'm finally starting to go through them and want to savor the ones that do have some value for my kid when he gets older. I don't want to pay the ridiculous prices on Beckett. I tried a free site but they seem to base value on the average going prices on eBay. Any help would be appreciated!

Anyone into Arena Football? Anyone follow our team at all? They started off hot this year, still have one of the best offenses in the league. But are 7-5 right now and should still make the playoffs. I think something is going on internally though, website hasn't been updated in a month and news about investors aren't paying their shares. These games are fun to watch and fun to experience live, but no one really knows about this team. Their marketing is almost obsolete. The Mustangs had one of the best attendance records in the AFL and that team was never good.

He almost made an appearance on Sunday. He was on-deck in the 9th but didn't get a chance when Josh Wilson made the final out. I don't know what kind of reception he would have gotten in that situation, coming in as the potential tying runner.

Awesome game, I'm glad I joined with you guys. Sorry that I didn't perform as good as I should have, didn't practice or warm-up and it showed. I think we'll be in the positive for the second half of the season. Thanks Matt and the rest of you guys for letting me play.

Why not move Gamel and Lawrie defensively?

I don't want to see Lawrie moved, I think he can handle 2B. Rickie would have to accept an outfield job, which he doesn't want. When Lawrie is ready to come up, one of them has to be traded. I like the idea of moving Gamel to 1B. If or when Prince is gone, they shouldn't scramble to fill that hole. If this does happen, I hope they start seasoning Gamel this year and next instead of throwing him in at spring training in 2012. -
Damn, I need to frequent these boards more often. I'd love to play with you guys and meet some cool dudes. This is the first year I wasn't on a team. If you guys do a fall league I'm definitely in!
