  1. Houston was 30 and snowing last night. People were running to windows to look as if it were some Christmas movie, whilst I thought "meh".
  2. Probably just for organizational filler. Not everyone in the minors is destined for the majors, but you still need 9 on the field every day.
  3. That's not true. I believe they get a 3rd rounder instead. That's correct... don't know where I was getting the "no pick" from. Still not good though.
  4. Correct. Also, if the Yanks add Tex to the mix, the Crew gets the Yankees 2nd rounder for CC and a comp pick, and a 3rd rounder for Sheets plus comp pick.
  5. Kenny says tomorrow's high is only 48, though it will improve after that. I wish it would just pick a temperature, either hot or cold, and stick with it, because it's not helping my cold. That said, I LOVE not shoveling, scraping, etc. Talk to me again in July though..
  6. On this note, does anyone know where to buy the metal base stands?
  7. The rules of arbitration are such that you offer only a number. No incentives are allowed.
  8. I watch all day, only to have a call during the BoC festival. Lame.

  10. If this takes them out of the running for Teixiera, it is good news. Assuming the Yankees win the Sabathia auction, this means we would still get their first round pick.
  11. I'm pulling for LA because: 1. The Dodgers have a higher draft pick, but not high enough to be protected. 2. The Dodgers have no chance of signing both CC and Tex, meaning we'd get 2 first round picks.
  12. Well, there's the first non-human aspect of Milwaukee I'll miss. I loved watching the auction.
  13. Take note New Hampshire: none of us care enough about you to even visit your state. Well, Alaska too, but that's too far a drive.

  15. If you paid with a CC, consider doing a chargeback. Sears has a horrid reputation for basically anything (search sears at consumerist.com, you'll be amazed at the horror). Otherwise, consumerist.com also has some easy advice for taking a major corporation to small claims court. It is amazingly simple. You could also try an EECB (executive email carpet bomb). I did this recently with ATT when their techs failed to install my DSL line 4 consecutive times. I emailed them on a weekday morning, and by noon that day, I had internet (kudos to them for that). They also tossed in 2 free months of service. Point being, moving to the top of the ladder can usually get results (though maybe not with Sears).
  16. For some perspective, here are the 2 picks before and after our selection since 2000: 2000 ----- Mark Phillips Joe TOrres Dave Krynzel Joe Borchard Shaun Boyd 2001 ------ Chris Burke Kenny Baugh Mike Jones Casey Kotchman Jqke Gatreau 2002 --------- Clint Everts Zach Grienke Prince Fielder Scott Moore Jeff Francis 2003 --------- Delmon YOung Rickie Weeks Kyle Sleeth Tim Stauffer Chris Lubanski 2004 ----------- Philip Humber Jeff Niemann Mark Rogers Jeremy Sowers Homer Bailey 2005 ----------- Jeff Clement Ryan Zimmerman Ryan Braun Ricky Romero Troy Tulowitzki 2006 ------------- Travis Snider Christopher Marrero Jeremy Jeffress Mark Antonelli Kyle Drabek 2007 ------------ Matt Wieters Ross Detwiler Matt Laporta Casey Weathers Jarod Parker 2008 ----------- Aaron Hicks Ethan Martin Brett Lawrie David Cooper Ike Davis The draft is a crapshoot, and Jack won way more than most teams, especially given the talent surrounding each pick.
  17. Wow. That is a lot of talent to replace. All part of being a successful franchise, but that will probably sting a bit.

  19. I won't be able to make it. I will, however, be rocking my jersey during my softball game today, in honor of the festivities.
  20. I miss you Milwaukee weather!
  21. Congrats Jack! You certainly deserve this opportunity, and I'm glad it's not with a division rival. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I wonder who steps in to take his place now.
  22. WOOT, INC. INTERNAL EMAIL STAFF EYES ONLY Attention Woot employees - We are now entering the final phase of preparations for the Woot-Off planned for midnight tonight. This is when we depart from our usual deal-a-day model and sell one product after another, offering a new deal as soon as the previous one sells out. For some reason, Woot members like bball123h continue to have high expectations for this event. We must make every effort to ensure that they feel disappointed and betrayed. All workers should be physically and mentally straining to make this Woot-Off a success, like every muscle in a wolf's body strains to capture and devour its prey. We expect total compliance with the following objectives: * Make sure the stables are thoroughly cleaned and the horses properly groomed and shod. As you know, Commander Rutledge prefers to lead us on horseback during Woot-Offs. Charge! * Customer Service department: all vacation requests for this week and next are approved. If you have not filed a vacation request, take one anyway. * The little green pills in the kitchen are there to keep you alert and working. Take as many as you need. Officially, Woot does not believe in the concept of "overdose". * Take at least one of our servers offline, just for laughs. * Go to the landfill and dig up some more Sansa media players. If you see any Digipro Graphics Tablets (and you will), grab those, too. * Place crap bags in company latrines so those orders can be "filled". To this end, the company will provide free lunch today from El Feo, the filthiest burrito joint in Dallas. Do your worst, guys. * Neutralize all negative thinking among our members. We simply cannot tolerate any more posts like "do not want" or "Woot-Off killer". If electronic means like word filters and IP bans do not work, we must reactivate the rapid-response teams to physically eliminate all threats to our reputation. * Last time, spot checks revealed that approximately 25% of products shipped are broken, incomplete, or excessively dirty. This is unacceptable. For this Woot-Off, defective shipments must make up at least 40%. * Remind SmartPost that there's no need to hurry on these orders. Prompt delivery makes our customers spoiled and argumentative. Let them learn humility and gratitude while they wait. Above all, we must strive to make this Woot-Off even more tedious, disappointing, and lucrative than the last one. The employee who achieves the most toward this end will be rewarded with one brown Zune. Second place: two brown Zunes. Forward into battle! Remember: to give one's life for Woot is glorious!
  23. APES ARE REALLY GOOD AT HIDING There is little doubt that we'll never find every species on our own planet, much less the universe. Also, I'd like to think that aliens don't spend their vacation time coming to Earth. I'm hoping for a much cooler, hipper, space spot to go visit.

  25. Either Jenkins and Stairs, or Balfour and Gross will have World Series rings in less than 2 weeks.
