  1. 1. Do you have any beef sticks? 2. May I have one? Best. Snack. Ever.
  2. I think the 66 is a bit misleading, as at least half of those are ticket discounts, not giveaways. I like the catcher's backpack though.
  3. Since he took over: Nov 7, 2007 - Traded Brad Lidge (P) and Eric Bruntlett (IF) to Phi-N for Geoff Geary (P), Michael Bourn (OF) and Mike Constanzo (IF) Dec 12, 2007 - Traded Matt Albers (P), Troy Patton (P), Dennis Sarfate (P), Luke Scott (OF) and Mike Constanzo (IF) to Bal-A for Miguel Tejada (IF) Dec 14, 2007 - Traded Chad Qualls (P), Juan Gutierrez (P) and Chris Burke (IF) to Ari-N for Jose Valverde (P) Jul 22, 2008 - Traded Chad Reineke (P) to SD-N for Randy Wolf (P) Jul 30, 2008 - Traded minor leaguer Mike Cusick (IF) to NY-A for LaTroy Hawkins (P) Mar 31. 2009 - Traded Drew Sutton (IF) to CIN-N for Jeff Keppinger (IF) Aug 18, 2009 - Traded Ivan Rodriguez © to TEX-A for two minor leaguers Dec 9, 2009 - Traded Robert Bono, Luis Bryan, and PTBNL to FLA-N for Matt Lindstrom (P) I guess I don't see the loss of a Laporta or equivalent in here. Bourn for Lidge was probably a wash, but 3 also-rans for Valverde is a win. 5 also-rans for Tejada would probably be a win. Point being, the farm system was weak when he got there, so the talent traded away was marginal at best.
  4. It may be worth pointing out that when he took the job, he walked into an aging team already financially tied to the Lee, Oswalt, and Berkman contracts, as well as a minor league system that was in the tank.
  5. Here's a pretty good article with Tony Blengino, former Brewer staffer, now assistant to Jack Z. Tony Blengino Article
  6. If the dollar collapses, you'd be better off investing in things like food, water, and means of protection than gold. I can't eat gold, live in gold, or protect myself with gold (other than the fine example of dental work suggested above).
  7. I would definitely say, don't do it! Read this: BAD IDEA 1 BAD IDEA 2 Long term, everything goes up. The question is at what rate....
  8. Houston is definitely in the central time zone.
  9. 1. Tour Minute Maid Park! Walkup tours are available every day at 10, 12, and 2 (though I'd call to verify). 2. Irma's Southwest Grill - About $15-20/person, but the most amazing lemonade ever (the Mexican is pretty good too) 3. Hubcap Grill - Real tiny burger joint, but really good. Plus, soda in glass bottles is always cool 4. Lucky's Bar and Grill - a few blocks from MMP, but a pretty fun place 5. Discovery Green - A giant park w/ restaurant between MMP and Toyota Center (directly across from George R. Brown convention center). I believe ice skating will be gone by then, but there's always something going on there 6. Bayou Place - loaded with more sophisticated bars, if you're in to that sort of thing 7. Theater district - Always tons of shows going on, and I believe there is a House of Blues down there too.
  10. I dropped the prices on the remaining bobbleheads, and added a ticket from the 82 World Series.
  11. We'll go with this one. I still remember going to the game in County Stadium where he hit 63 and 64. Possibly my coolest Milwaukee-based baseball experience until the playoff run in 2008. Good for him to come clean, though he probably did this now to avoid a media circus following him all season.
  12. Hopefully he can be rushed up for Dusty to destroy.
  13. Here's what I got: B.J.Surhoff autographed ball - $5 Bobbleheads 2002 Ben Sheets - no box - $5 2005 Damian Miller Mini - $2 2007 Bill Hall - $2 2007 Chris Capuano - $2 2007 Prince Fielder - $6 2007 Rickie Weeks - $6 2007 Paul Molitor Mini - $3 2007 Gorman Thonas Mini - $3 2007 Mike Caldwell Mini - $3 2007 Cecil Cooper Mini- $3 2007 Pete Vuckovich Mini- $3 2007 Don Money Mini- $3 2007 Jim Gantner Mini- $3 2007 Nesting Dolls - 1957 Braves- $5 I'll move all 7 2007 Minis for $12. I do live in TX, so I'll have to ship them, but I'll combine shipping on multiples to save $$.
  14. If it's not auction, Yahoo seriously upgraded this year. You can even customize the draft order for each individual round, allowing for draft picks to be traded. It remembers the rosters from the previous season, so keeper selection was pretty simple. Plus, it is totally free.
  15. You may want to check your router config, especially if you bought a cheapo laptop ($500 and under). I had to switch my parents from mixed mode (N and G wireless) to just G wireless. It solved all of their connectivity issues. Also, if you are in an area with a ton of wireless activity (apartment complex, dorm, etc.), you may want to check the default wireless channel.
  16. Ah, the ol' magnetic gyro-wheel. http://candy-crate.stores.yahoo.net/magywh.html
  17. This is from Houston, TX. Ripoff. http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/30435bf1452492a7d2b5a89b81914443a911a6a.jpg
  18. I would say a top 3 of either Sabathia, Burnett, and Pettite, or of Lee, Hamels, and Pedro is much better than "good enough". Yes, both the Phillies and the Yankees had excellent offenses. However, that wasn't the only thing that carried them. Their pitching staffs were among the best in baseball, especially their top 3 starters.

  20. I absolutely agree with you. We were figuring that, at our current rate, by June or July, we'd have 0 CC debt and about $6k in savings. From that point, taking that $1500 a month and adding it to our savings, we could build up a pretty large savings/emergency fund pretty quickly. Plus, a mortgage in the area we plan to move would cost us only about an extra $100/month compared to rent. We don't even carry our credit cards around anymore, using only our debit card or cash.
  21. So I just opened an awesome notice from one of our credit card companies. First, our situation: $10k in CC debt, $30k available (over 3 cards) Card A: $2,000/$7,000 (13% APR) Card B: $3,000/$10,000 (0% till April) Card C: $5,000/$12,000 (9 % APR) $2k in savings, adding $600/month paying $1500/month toward the CCs Card C just sent us a notice that they are jacking our interest rate from 9% to 19%, because they're really nice people and know how to maintain a customer relationship (I've been with that bank for 16 years, and I'm 26). I do have the ability to opt out of the increase in APR, however that would mean closing the account. We were planning on buying a home next summer. Should I opt out? By the time we'd be pursuing a mortgage, our balance on the cards should be 0. However, being our oldest card, it will have some impact on our credit score. I tried to find a good site to estimate the impact of closing the card, but have had no success finding info.
  22. It's a different regime now too... Wade didn't fire Garner. And on the Wolf trade, I wouldn't call Chad Reineke a top prospect by any means, and he was the only player traded away.
  23. 89, 80, 74, 74, 80, 78 here in Houston. The move is finally paying off! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
