  1. I will say that while I do personally like BA, I actually understand this sentiment too. And I think that part of the reason that he gets so much national work is that he is both good (at least IMO) and fairly vanilla at the same time. And it's probably part of the reason I like BA and Rock. I don't need much from the announcers to love watching, in fact a couple guys who just narrate and don't overpower the broadcast are great.
  2. But that's not the argument. The point is being a baseball announcer is incredibly difficult and takes tremendous talent, moreso than any other mainstream sport IMO. And filling in 3 hours - of which maybe 15 minutes is actual gameplay - with entertaining banter and analysis is tremendously difficult. But listen to anyone for 3 hours every day about anything and you can find reasons to not like them. Again, not everyone has to like him, or Rock for that matter, but the whole point of comparing them to others is not to say everyone else sucks. It's actually to say most others, by definition, are average. And if you realize that, and compare them to our guys, you may see that our guys are actually pretty darn good.
  3. I know they've been halfway decent to date, but our starting pitching is what keeps me from getting excited about the long term prospects of this team
  4. Just feels like we're due for a dud, and the conditions seem prime for it...here's hoping I'm wrong.
  5. Would love to see Broxton at the top of that lineup, or even Perez though I know he's not necessairily an on base machine when he's not hitting
  6. Religion, politics, and baseball announcers. We'll never all agree, and not everyone has to love our guys, but listen to some other local or even national broadcasts and many will appreciate that the guys we have are pretty darn good.
  7. Matt Garza has been hot garbage for 2 years, and we've been hoping someone would offer us a sack of baseballs to get him off our hands. Now he makes 5 good starts and he's untouchable? Baseball deals are all about buying low and selling high. Everyone knows that, but it's hard to do because in the moment, when you do it right, you usually feel like you're selling an asset and buying off the scrap heap (i.e. super-reliever Tyler Thornburg for newly benched Travis Shaw and other). The Brewers have not been good at this over the years, I hope that changes under DS. I hope Garza keeps pitching like we all hoped he would, and then I'd trade him in a heartbeat even if we're in contention. Bring up Woodruff, keep the train moving this year and for the future.
  8. Agreed, and after what had to be a huge ego blow being pulled from the rotation, let him leave on a good - or more accurately, dominant - note. Let him get comfortable from the start in what hopefully be an important role going forward. Could tell in the dugout after he was pinch hit for he was feeling real good and his teammates were all happy for him. Fun to see.
  9. Do we ever play in Chicago in the middle of the season? Feels like the cold weather hoods are a permanent part of our Wrigley Field uniforms.
  10. Boy, if Wily can be a weapon in the pen that would be huge. Looked good getting those 4 outs in 1 inning.
  11. For those people that dislike Bill as an announcer, I hope you're paying attention to Augie today. When he actually speaks, that is.
  12. This game (and BA) raises an interesting rules question. We all know 5 innings makes an official game (or 4.5 if the home team is winning). If a game is called in the middle of an inning, how do you call the game? There are a bunch of different possibilities: - Away team led after the last full inning and now added runs - do you go back to the last half inning's score? Or are you committed to now finish that inning even if the home team hasn't batted? What if it's the bottom and they have 2 on and 2 out? Or even 0 on and 2 out? - Away team takes the lead in the top half then the game gets delayed? Assume the game must go on at some point in the future? - Home team has the lead and away team has 2 men on in the top half when the game is called? Or away team has 2 out and no one on, nothing going, can you just end the game officially mid half-inning with the losing team at bat? Or yet to bat? I could go on and on, what I figured was a simple rule I know I now have 800 questions about
  13. Well Coles was the hitting coach last year too. We love to complain about pitching and hitting coaches when things aren't going right (Fire Wynegar!), so credit is due when a team without supposed offensive stars is near the league lead in runs with this kind of plate approach. Tip of the cap Darnell.
  14. So since the umps obviously want to get an official game in this monsoon, do they force their way through the bottom of the 5th too?
  15. Really happy about this team's start, but I just can't get excited about making a run this year when our starting pitching is absoutely brutal.
  16. Wily serving up absolute meatballs in the first, lucky to get out of the inning with just one.
  17. 8 for 9 in save opportunities, anyone out there interested in trading for a super reliable closer? Please?
  18. So what plan would you put in place to serve us well immediately while preserving the future? Welcome to rebuilding, I hate it too but if we had no weaknesses we would already be rebuilt.
