  1. Wait...momentum on the Brewers side? I keep waiting for that turning point in the month... LET'S GO CREW!
  2. So much talent...why do I feel like I've dealt with this before... http://graphics.jsonline.com/graphics/packer/img/rev/oct04/13_1011.jpg
  3. Prediction - Brewers shorten up their strokes against the tough Hamels and the bats wake up. Brewers win, 6-4, split the DH tomorrow and leave Philly up 4 on both the Phils and Stros with 12 to play. All of Milwaukee breathes out.
  4. What panics me is not just the fact that we're losing, but that the offensive flaws we managed to hide all season are being exposed in doing so. We are terrible situational hitters, and Yost does not understand the concept of manufacturing runs (you know...if your team happens to be struggling to get big hits...). I do believe that the bats will wake up again before the end of the season, but you cannot rely on HR's and multiple-hit innings in the playoffs against Zambrano, Harden, Santana, Perez, Lowe, and Billingsley.
  5. I have to disagree. I know there are a fair amount of people that don't care for Brian, or Bill, or both. I personally think they're great. I think Brian is a solid play-by-play guy and has really grown into a good partership with Bill. I think baseball announcers have one of the toughest jobs in sports media. If you listen to anyone for 3 hours, everyday, for 6 months, you're bound to find something to pick on about them. As others have said, listen to some other local broadcaster (for example, those for both teams directly to the south), and I think you'll realize we've got a pretty good duo, at least IMO. On the subject of Brian being a bit of a fan in the pressbox, I think he's just about right. It's a local broadcast being followed by Brewer fans. If a big play is made, why shouldn't he be getting the audience excited? At least he's not like some announcers that just yell pointless exclamations like "YES!" like their watching the game from the couch. Besides, you know FSN brass has their finger on how they announce the game, when things are going good or bad. How many times does Yost make a bad decision, or a player fail to execute, and Brian and Bill make sly little comments like they want to call someone out but know they're not supposed to. "Boy, Yost is showing a lot of confidence in Gagne here..." "Hall fails to move the runner over to third and now there's one out." I personally love those moments.
  6. Wow - talk about a meltdown. Not the Brewers...this thread. I see a lot of people chirping about the Cubs message boards when things aren't going well...by reading this thread you'd think this was the end of the Brewers' season. It reminds me exactly of what happened after the Cubs sweep at MP. Everyone (especially my casual-fan friends) kept telling me how much the Brewers suck and didn't want to hear me tell them that one series does not make or break a season. Then what happened? They went 20-7 in August. Relax. One sweep is not the end of the world. Am I frustrated? Oh yeah I am. Am I worried about the Brewers playoff chances? Of course I am. I'm a Brewers fan, I've been bred to expect failure. But step back from the ledge for a second and look at things rationally. The Brewers will end the season 2-4 against the Mets (most likely). Is that so terrible in such a small sample? What about the 4-6 record against the Cubs? Rickie turns a double play in July and that's 5-5 against the (...gulp...) best team in baseball. Relax, we'll finish today with, at worst, a 3 1/2 game lead in the wild card. When we take 3 or 4 from the Padres, you'll all be saying how we're in the driver's seat for the playoffs once again. Deep breath...
  7. I'll be in Pittsburgh. Singing, "Let me root, root, root... for the away team!"
  8. Hey folks, I'm heading out to PNC park this weekend for the Sat./Sun. games and am wondering what their policy is on tailgating. I checked on their website and didn't find anything, though it seems as though there isn't really stadium parking. Is this right? If anyone who has been there could help me out it'd be great. What is there to do in the hours leading up to the game? I know the stadium is near downtown, is that the place to be? Also any post-game suggestions wouldn't hurt either, thanks!
  9. Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a Brewer's jersey of some sort in Madison. Any idea's where to find a good price? I'd love to find something retro and powder blue, but I'm not too picky. Thanks for the help.
  10. The obliques are most certainly the primary muscle involved in rotating the trunk and, if this motion is what is causing Braun the most pain, a very possible culprit. However, pain within the intercostals can certainly be triggered by the swinging motion, and he complained of trouble breathing, indicating intercostals moreso than obliques. In the end, if what we have been given through the media is to be believed (and I don't see why it wouldn't be), it appears Braun has a muscle strain/spasm. Whether it is in the intercostals or obliques is nitpicking. I'd guess he will be feeling better in a couple days or so, though the Brewers will probably be cautious and wouldn't be shocked if it turned out to be a week or more of recovery in total (how's that for a precise diagnosis?!)
  11. Yeah, a broken rib would be easy to detect and I'm sure the Brewers have already checked that out. Also, there aren't significant ligaments between the ribs as there are in major joints, it's really just muscles (intercostals). He likely is having spasms, though I can't claim to know how long those typically take to subside.
  12. Thanks for the ideas guys, I've always had fun taking a girl out for sushi so Muramoto sounds like a good place (plus I've never been and have always wanted to try it). I'm thinking a dinner like that and then go for a drink or two somewhere a little less crowded than the terrace. I also like taking a girl mini golfing, espescially if there's a driving range so I can teach her a little of the real thing. But, that might be a bit much with dinner too. Second date? That said, I think it'd be hard to go wrong with a 12-pack in the back seat of my sweet Chevy Prism. Anyway, I'm not taking her out until next week (she's out of town), so feel free to keep the ideas coming if you want...or you could throw out some memorable first dates of your own...good or bad. Who doesn't like a bad first date story?
  13. At what point does the pride of our front office take a back seat to what is best for a team with legitimate World Series aspirations? IMO, it's more embarrassing to sign a guy to too large a contract, then let him drag your team down on the field as well because of that contract. No need to compound our mistakes.
  14. Hey folks - I'm taking out a very cool, sweet girl next week on a first date and am looking for some ideas. I'd be comfortable doing the classic dinner and drinks as we've had good conversations in the past and am not too worried about awkward silences. That said, I think this one is a catch so I'd love to do something memorable. I live in Madison if anyone wants to get into some specific places. If you have some ideas, I'd love to hear them!
  15. Hey folks, I have organized a big tailgate party (about 70 people) for the July 5th game at MP and am trying to figure out a good place for everyone to meet by the park so we can all caravan into the parking lot together. We usually park in the lot just north of the stadium and south of I-94. We would be meeting about 3 hours prior to gametime. Any help with this would be great, thanks!
  16. Cool, thanks guys.
  17. Also, I believe that if a batter hits a HR, regardless of the number of errors that inning or the situation (i.e. two outs and an error preventing the third out), his run is earned. Just another factoid to complicate things.
  18. Quick question, what is the Brewers ticket policy on young children (i.e. 1 year-old)? Anyone have a link to that info? Thanks!
  19. I'll jump on the pile as a Berman hater, but to his credit, "Bobby we all live on Ayala submarine" is genius.
  20. I posted my observation without looking at any other posts as it was late and it was my first opportunity to post yesterday. Apparently someone else had the same observation earlier, so my point was therefore invalid? Pretty condescending post on your part for what I felt was legitimate baseball discussion, albeit unknowingly repetitive.
  21. Don't know if this was discussed elsewhere. It didn't end up figuring in the result due to Mota's wild pitch, but can someone please explain Yost's 9th inning defensive strategy to me? 1 out, men on the corners, tie game. And you bring the infield in? WHY? The only way you gun down the runner at home is if someone hits a ball right at an infielder...if that happens, why would you not be playing for a double play? Maybe I'm missing something here, someone please explain this. Many people defend Yost and say the players are responsbile...not here. It's overlooked because it didn't matter, but I don't get it at all.
  22. Does anyone know if the game will be blacked out in Madison? I need to DVR the game and don't want to DVR ESPN to find out that I've recorded a whole lot of nothing.
  23. Here goes: My team- C Victor Martinez 1B Todd Helton/Kevin Youkilis 2B Howie Kendrick/Aaron Hill 3B Miguel Cabrera SS Jimmy Rollins/Edgar Renteria OF (4 starters) Lance Berkman/Torii Hunter/Hideki Matsui/Ken Griffey Jr./Josh Willingham DL Curtis Granderson (OF) SP James Shields/Brett Myers/Jered Weaver/Shawn Marcum/Randy Johnson/John Maine/Clay Bucholz RP Francisco Rodriguez/Manuel Corpas/Brad Lidge DL Scott Kazmir/John Lackey Here's the trade: I give: OF Torii Hunter SP Randy Johnson RP Manuel Corpas I get: SP John Smoltz RP JJ Putz I think I'm getting the best of it, as Smoltz and Putz are obvious upgrades and I need pitching help. Also, Granderson comes off the DL this week and it'd be nice to make room for him. Am I giving up too much in Hunter? Thoughts?
  24. Oops, thanks, I'll move it there
  25. Ok fellow fantasy baseball nerds, do you take this trade? I give: OF Torii Hunter SP Randy Johnson RP Manny Corpas I get: SP John Smoltz RP JJ Putz My other outfielders (4 OF starters in my league) are Lance Berkman, Hideki Matsui, and Ken Griffey Jr. I also have Curtis Granderson coming off the DL soon, so it'd be nice to clear a spot for him, and Josh Willingham on my bench. I was tempted to take this trade right away as I think I'm getting the best of it, but thought I'd consult some experts first...
