  1. Perfect example of why not to judge pitchers by W/L occurred in the Cubs game last night. In the IGT someone pointed out that Dempster is 9-0 at home, 0-3 on the road. He left after the 6th last night leading 5-2. Marmol comes in striking out the first 2 on 6 pitches, then gives up a walk, a single, and a HR; 5-5 and Dempster remains 0-3 on the road. Top of the next inning Fontenot homers, Cubs win, and Marmol gets the win. Go figure!
  2. Doesn't matter how good a team is (based on somebody's perception) because at the end of the season only 1 thing counts. Are they in the playoffs based on number of wins? And as it stands right now, somebody in the NL Central is going to lose out to an inferior team in the NL West. Well, maybe geography is more important than wins and losses. When considering pitchers for the Cy Young, that is the first thing that's looked at. The winner is then honed from a group with similar w/l records.
  3. Stroud's restaurant in KC is excellent. There's two of them - I've been to the south one it's old and small and don't take reservations but the pork chops are worth the wait. If you happen to like chicken livers they have a plateful that will send your cholesterol up 200 points. Since you'll be at Kauffman, see if you can get a tour of Arrowhead, it's a great facility. Isn't the IRS located in KC? I'm sure you could get a tour there for about 33% of your budget. Just kidding There's so much to suggest in Chicago and it looks like your Wrigley game will be a day game. Morton's, Gibson's, or the Chicago Chop House are 3 name steak houses and definitely $$$$$. At the game, don't just show up and go inside and leave after the game. Absorb the ambiance of the entire experience. Go to one of the places across the street (try Bernie's) have a Chicago style hot dog (for God's sake don't eat inside the park except for nachos and french fries) and enjoy talking to Cubs fans. (We're really not bad people.)
  4. So how come nobody says anything in this thread when the Cubs kick somebody's butt.
  5. You'll never hear me using that excuse. The only thing that's kept my team from winning the World Series for 100 years or getting to it for 63 years is the same thing that's kept your team from any playoff appearance for 26 years - bad play on the field - or at least not good enough.
  6. Nice to know my opinion means something on this board.
  7. First of all your thread title is incorrect based on your description. It should read Sox fans and Cubs fans join forces against thief. I was at the Saturday game in the upper deck and there was only 1 disturbance that I observed and that was probably it. Personally I saw nothing but fans cheering for their own team, a little razzing the other guy, and of course a plethora of shirts, uh, shall I say disdaining the other team. And a LOT of congrats, good game, and (I know you guys will love this) GO Bears comments after the game.
  8. Hating us is OK but that is a pretty lame reason to tack on. Why exactly are we to blame for that? Wasn't it your franchise that volunteered to move to the NL?
  9. Now that interleague play is over I took a look at what MLB has for "natural rivalries". There are 11 such series, though, I'm not quite sure how San Diego - Seattle qualifies but it seems to. Three of the series finished 5-1 with the Indians winning only 1 game at home vs the Reds, Florida winning 1 game at Tampa, and the Padres winning 1 game at Seattle. Four of the series finished 4-2 but only the Twins won 2 of 3 in each stadium vs the Brewers. In the other 3 cases the Cardinals, the Giants, and the Yankees all dropped 3 in their own park before going on the road and taking 2 of 3 at the Royals, A's, and Mets, respectively. That leaves 4 series that split 3-3. The Astros - Rangers, Nationals - Orioles, and Dodgers - Angels all won 2 of 3 at their own facility while the Cubs and White Sox swept each other at home. Don't know what it all means other than the AL dominated the NL in this mini look as well as in the overall interleague play.
  10. 123 gave you good ideas. Find a recruiter that will help get you leads. They have access to jobs not listed in newspaper or online. On-line sites are also good. or move down here where there are more jobs (and become a Cubs fan too http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ) Good luck
  11. Nobody will probably read this because I think most of you don't read these non-brewer IGT after the fact but here goes anyway. 1) OFF TOPIC but, Cubs fan's are SOOOOO bad about complaining about the UMP's I was at Saturday's game and you would be amazed at the number of Sox fans near me (upper deck 3rd row left field line even with the LF) that knew the strike zone better than the guy 3 ft behind home plate. Some Cubs fans did too. Guess what? It's a league-wide phenomenon. Don't single out Cubs fans. Also- Funny you should bring that up after 2 calls that were proven wrong by replay. 2) They had a chance to trim 3 more games off the Cubs lead (Thursday, Friday, Today), and could be a mere 1.5 games back. Don't you think I'm thinking similar thoughts? What could have been! If we could have swept the Sox again like we did a week ago, we could have increased our lead. You picked up a game; be happy about it and go to Arizona and try to pick up more - just like we lick our wounds and head out to SF and try to increase our lead.
  12. At the time I got my AS, the field was referred to as Data Processing. Have since gotten a BA in Business. Now work as a QA Analyst and Software Tester. Many years of experience in the field but not very familiar with VB or Java. So I may be able to answer some questions you have. Why do I feel like I'm sending my resume out?
  13. Fish Boil? Watch the show - then go inside and order a steak!
  14. Just curious, do you pour the beer on the Cap'n Crunch? Milk and almost anything...except sushi. Mmmm http://bestsmileys.com/puking/2.gif However, Sushi and sake is good MGD and a Chicago Style hot dog But I heartily agree with beer with anything especially another beer.
  15. Right now, I'd say Sheets is the odds on to start for the NL with of all people, Ryan Dempster, the likely number 2 choice. If the game were at Wrigley, then yes start Dempster (9-0 at home) not on the road. The only reason Volquez wouldn't start over Sheets is that the manager is "old-school" and doesn't like to "clog the bases." Clint Hurtle is the ASG manager and he's not the "clog the bases" guy. That's Volquez's regular manager, Dusty Baker.
  16. The 2 points were strictly numbers. I've heard/read a lot of whining about our terribly unbalanced H/A schedule to date yet we had played only 1 less road game than the Brewers. The other point was that the Pirates are not nearly as bad a team as they have been the last few years. And I know full well that we have a tough September. If you take a good look at results, our lead is not because we played the Pirates so many times but because we have bludgeoned the NL West. (and we still have 7 left with SF)
  17. ...and "@+#@" doesn't even belong on the list! edit: Now THAT is amazing!!!
  18. As of this morning: Pirates record 36-40 Pirates record less games vs Cubs 33-32 I say again Perception isn't always the same as reality.
  19. As of this morning: Cubs road record: 16-20 Brewers road record: 16-21 Perception isn't always the same as reality.
  20. Yeah it is Sheffield but Thome is only a little ahead of him. Hey, we may get to see Jim at first base this weekend especially with Konerko on the DL.
  21. Personally I like the one that says Carlos is a knucklehead, but he is a talented knucklehead. MRI willing
  22. I try to tell Cubs fans that this team can never develop anyone and they need to "sign" everybody elses talent. Though I can't guarantee that they all were originally signed by the Cubs, 12 members of the current 25 man roster have played for no other Major League ball club. Zambrano, Wood, Wuertz, Marmol, Gallagher Soto Fontenot (from Baltimore in the Sosa trade), Theriot, Cedeno, Hoffpauir Murton (from Boston along with Garciaparra) Fukudome http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  23. The regulars are going. Here is what is happening. They stayed in Toronto last night, flying to Albany (closest major airport) this morning, 90 minute bus ride to Cooperstown, play the game in which regular position players will get no more than 1 at-bat and no MLB pitchers will be used, 90 min bus back to Albany, fly to Tampa arriving late tonight for a game tomorrow night. It's really not much different than one of those 1 day make-up games. Except that about 17 players were called up from Tennessee (AA) and Daytona (high - A).
  24. So who goes from Washington, San Francisco, Colorado, San Diego? They all have lousy records but somebody has to go from each team. Will Scott Rolen get another undeserving election at 3rd base? .. Oh wait he's in the AL now. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Jon Rausch may be the Nats only selection. Lincicum from the Giants. Cook from Colorado. Would that cut deserving pitchers? Yes Sheets should go. Believe it or not Dempster should go. Regardless of your (overall) impression of him, (BTW he is 2-0 vs the Brewers) his numbers are good enough. In my mind there are only 2 pitching locks - Webb and Volquez I really don't care who goes as long as the NL wins the friggin game.
