  1. I do not think that the date for single game tickets sales has been made public yet, but February 28th is my best guess. I could be wrong, but I believe that in recent years single game tickets have been made available on the last Saturday in February.
  2. Monday Night Football isn't either. Also, a lot of games are on the semi-inaccessible NFL Network. True, but MNF on ESPN only runs through the regular season. All NFL playoff games are broadcast on one of three major networks and are played on either Saturday or Sunday. Yeah, not to be inconsiderate, but I would guess at least 75% of the country has access to TBS, or ESPN for that matter. No offense taken ... I have no idea what percentage of the population has cable television (help, anyone?). Suppose it is 75%. Wouldn't a major network broadcast of the ALCS/NLCS potentially increase viewership by 33%? I only have my own intuition to backup this assertion, but if an individual sits down and watches a few playoff games in early October, aren't they more likely to tune into the World Series?
  3. I may be a little late in weighing in here, but one fact that has yet to be mentioned is that football is more accessible than baseball. I grew up in Green Bay without cable television and never watched a Brewers' game in my own home until Fox Saturday Baseball started picking up Brewers' games a few years ago. However, every year, once October came, I was able to watch MLB games all week and follow the story lines that unfolded during the playoffs. Once the World Series rolled around, I had a vested interest in its outcome. During the 2008 baseball season, the NLDS and ALDS were not even on network television! Now for die hards and people with cable, this isn't an issue, but if Major Leauge Baseball wants to pick up some more casual fans in hopes of boosting World Series viewership, it has to make its product more accessible to the masses. Would as many people watch the Super Bowl if they had not seen a single playoff game? Also, it couldn't hurt if Taco Beel continued to give out free tacos. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. Round 2 - Saturday, February 7th at Resch Center: University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers (14-8 overall, 9-3 Horizon League) vs. University of Wisconsin- Green Bay Phoenix (18-6 overall, 10-2 Horizon League) Green Bay and Milwaukee are sitting at 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the Horizon League standings behind Butler. Their January matchup in Milwaukee went to OT before the Phoenix took the win in a tight finish. There is definitely a lot to play for on Saturday night.
  5. I have similar sentiments to express. I liked Shouse's personality and his performance, but the pick seems like adequate compensation. Best of luck in Tampa, Brian. Without Shouse, who is the top lefty coming out of the pen for the Brewers? ... Stetter? Swindle? perhaps Cappy later on?
  6. I've enjoyed all of the speculation about the 2009 bobbles that has been going on in this thread, so I thought that it would be fitting to make my own contribution. Below, I've listed a set of bobbles that I think we're likely to see this year and another set that I would personally like to see given away. Likely To See 1. Yovani Gallardo ... the current player most likely to receive the honor 2. Ryan Braun ... the Brewers will capitalize on his popularity, possible "Silver Slugger" tribute ? 3. Brat / Italian Sausage ... keeping with traditon 4. 90s Brewers ... Cirillo, Burnitz, Vaugn ? 5. Braves' Great ... Aaron, Mathews, Spahn ? (perfect for July 26) Wish List 1. Craig Counsell ... Milwaukee guy, 2x World Series champ 2. Dave Bush ... solid contributor for 3 years, playoff win, better years ahead ? 3. Dale Sveum ... got us to October, my favorite hitting coach 4. Bernie w/ WC Flag ... love the idea, Razzzor On the Horizon: Parra, Villanueva, McClung, Gwynn
  7. Update: I've done some research and decided that it may be best to jump right in and learn as I go. Since I do not anticipate any large expenses until next Fall's tuition, I am going to place $2,500 in a 3-month CD. The interest rate at my local Wells Fargo is horrible (0.6% APY), but my savings account is only earning 0.1% APY (down from 2% a year ago at this time). If all goes according to plan, I can expect a robust yield of $4 and change. I realize that the value of my time in this process greatly exceeds my anticipated yield, but the real payout that I am expecting is the knowledge that I will gain from the whole process. In the future, I would like to utilize CDs as a way to earn interest in the short run while accumulating a principle for long term investments. I have a full page checklist that I have prepared to take to the bank with me, but if anyone has any experience in dealing with CDs (perhaps some pitfalls that you've encountered or success stories), I would greatly appreciate your input before I head to the bank on Thursday. Thank You!
  8. As much as I like seeing the Bucks enjoy some success (yes, back to back wins count as success), I can't help but think that they should sell high on Charlie V. I admire his production as of late, but I do not see him as a 20-25+ guy in the long run.
  9. The more I think about it, I want a Dave Bush bobble in 2009. Agreed. Let's see some love for Milwaukee's own "Mr. October."
  10. I'm not a basketball guy in terms of finances, so please correct me if I am wrong, but as I understand it, if the Bucks want to resign CV and Sessions (and I understand that is an if), they need to trade RJ to get his heavy contract off of the books. In Hammond we trust ...
  11. I suppose that I should line up and pay my respects as well ... I took in 90% of Brewers' games on the radio. While in college, I used to plan my studying around Bob and Jim's radio broadcasts (and to a lesser extent, Bucks' basketball). I would finish my reading assignments early in the day so that I could save the evenings for copying notes, making flash cards, and baseball. Rainouts use to wreck my nights. Congrats Jim!
  12. Time to trade RJ and Redd and start this thing over again. We're not going anywhere with those two taking up half the salary cap. I'm starting to agree. I'd give this team until the end of January and then make a move. I want to see the Bucks be competitive, but I can wait. Finishing 9th in the East would be the worst case scenario.
  13. Ben, I really enjoyed this article - thank you. Is the general consensus amongst fans that Lucroy will begin the season in AA Huntsville?
  14. Rudy Fernandez edges out Russel Westbrook and Milwaukee's Joe Alexander; will participate in Slam Dunk Contest: http://www.nba.com/2009/n...lstar.20090119/index.html It was nice to see the Bucks and JA get some positive run, but the next time the Bucks put together an ad campaign for a slam dunk contest, they should post a few videos of their candidate actually dunking. Alexander is a phenomenal athlete, but unless you're name is Dwight Howard, you actually have to dunk in order to win. Don't get me wrong though, I love watching Charlie V. play table tennis just as much as the next guy ... and that Bango cracks me up. See for yourself: Go get 'em tonight, Bucks!
  15. Hi Folks- Thank you for all of your input. I would welcome more if you have the time to post it. For those of you who suggested Dave Ramsey, Jim Cramer, Clark Howard, and / or David Bach, could you please suggest a specific book of theirs? I noticed that they all had a few titles to their credit, but I would like to start with the one that will give me the best introduction to investments and wealth management.
  16. Thanks for the update. Even though the cost of autographs seems pretty reasonable, I'm sure that just having a fee will really help with the lines. I was surprised to see that guys like Gamel, Green, Rottino, Dillard, and Stetter do not have autograph fees. They could be the most popular.
  17. Hey Brewer Fans- I'm looking for some input from those of you with more financial experience than myself. I'm in my early twenties and wrapping up an MS in Economics, but I'll be the first to admit that my knowledge of investments and wealth building strategies is only average. In the near future, I would like to obtain a position as an economic analyst or consultant; however, I would also like to develop several business interests on the side that will one day afford me financial independence. In the mean time, I am looking to develop a high "Financial IQ" by familiarizing myself with a wide array of topics. I would very much appreciate it if anyone could suggest a few books or websites for me to check out. Posting any advice or experience that you have would also be tremendously helpful. Thank You!
  18. Can someone please briefly explain to me how second round contracts are structured?
  19. Can you blame them? He and his posse were trying to get out of Milwaukee all year. Funny thing is, now they're trying to get out of New Jersey. Why isn't Yi content with the Nets? New Jersey / Brooklyn is just about the largest market he could be playing in.
  20. Wow, that one definitely lived up to the hype. The rematch is February 7th in Green Bay. We should definitely revisit this thread then.
  21. For out-of-staters without ESPNU, there should be free audio here tonight: http://www.thefan1075.com/
  22. UWGB alum here- I loved this matchup as a student. Even though the two schools are natural basketball rivals, I've always had respect for Milwaukee's program. Does anyone know if this game is going to get picked up by ESPN 2 or ESPN U like it has in the past?
  23. Brewtank- was the game blacked out for you on League Pass? Even the Bucks' radio affiliate in Green Bay went with the NFL playoffs over Bucks @ Bobcats. I had to listen to the Sturgeon Bay affiliate through heavy static. Toronto is a game and a half out of the 8-spot. Tonight is a perfect opportunity for Milwaukee to distance themselves from the competition. Go Bucks!
  24. While I have no legal basis for my opinion, I have always heard that if you are pulled over for suspicion of drunk driving, you should refuse a breathalyzer but say that you are willing to comply with a blood test. A good friend of mine was pulled over for suspicion of drunk driving two years ago. He knew that he was close to the legal limit, but claimed that his poor driving was caused by his car windows, which he failed to scrape off properly because he was only traveling a short distance. He was asked to take a breathalyzer test, but politely declined in favor of a blood test. At this point the officer let him go with a warning. My guess is that the time and energy of the officer were better spent taking someone off the streets who was an obvious hazard to others. My friend got the message, though- loud and clear.
  25. Congrats and best of luck to you on your search. I think I can provide a few tips that no one else has mentioned. 1- If your girlfriend has a sister, it may be worth checking in with her before you shop. Sisters (or even close friends) may know your girlfriend's tastes well. Older sisters can be especially helpful if they are married or engaged because they have been through the ring shopping process before. 2- Jewelry store prices are negotiable. The price shown in the display case is inflated to account for a sales commission. Some sales associates are willing to forgo a portion of their commission in order to make a sale. For example, say a particular ring costs $1000 and comes with a $200 commission for the sales associate who sells the ring. An offer of $900 would be mutually beneficial for you and the associate because you save $100 and they make $100 (since they would earn nothing if you did not purchase the ring). I was able to knock 20% off the display price of an engagement ring by simply asking the sales associate to lower the price.
