  1. It's not only about the return on his investment- as he said, if he doesn't take the loan, he uses his emergency fund, which is a bad and dangerous idea. True ... it can be a bad idea if you have no way of accessing money in an emergency. However, I'd like to think that most parents would loan their children money in a pinch. If the emergency fund is so important, set aside $1000 right and adjust your budget accordingly. Saving $1000 over the course of 8 months shouldn't be a problem unless you are really running on empty now. There are plenty of creative ways to cut corners.
  2. Pay for it. Don't get yourself in debt for any period of time. You never know what may or may not come up after you graduate. +1 I think you need to ask yourself - is the return on my investment significantly greater than the interest rate on my loan? If I were in your situation, I'd just count my blessings. Soon you'll have a graduate degree and no debt. Then you'll have more time to pay proper attention to your investments.
  3. I ordered a t-shirt last week and just want to say that I am very happy with it. I live in Vikings Country, so I bought one to wear to class on Monday, October 5. The design looks sharp on the finished product and the shipping was very fast, especially for a holiday weekend.
  4. Look into visiting Red Rocks Amphitheatre - It's an awesome sight (very little walking required).
  5. I love spotting random jerseys. When my friends and I attend games (Brewers, Bucks, Packers, etc), we often try to see who can find the most irrelevant one. I'm glad that a person can't simply order a jersey with a former player's name and number. Wearing an outdated jersey is like a badge of honor for fans who stay true during the lean years.
  6. Dislocating my knee cap in a really gross way right before school starts. (I'm a teacher) It's interesting to try and use crutches however. Yikes ... I dislocated my knee in high school during a summer workout. I pushed very hard to have my knee healthy for my senior track season and ended up dislocating it again in December (and two more times after that). Please, please, please go easy on your knee. Mine will never be the same.
  7. I noticed on bucks.com that Ersan Illyasova is going to be wearing #8 this season. The last time he was with the Bucks, he wore #19. During his first season with the Bucks, he wore #23 (I think that he vacated it for Ruben Patterson). Is this some kind of record, or has there been a Bucks player who has worn more than three different jersey numbers while with the team?
  8. I would hate to see the Bucks trade Luke Ridnour now, because his expiring contract will be more valuable before the trade deadline. There are plenty of "win now" teams in the NBA that will look to add depth this winter. Assuming he stays healthy and plays well (even if in a limited capacity), his stock will only rise, right?
  9. I am beginning my final year of college and will be starting a job search very soon. I would like to invite anyone who has recently graduated from school or has started a new job to share their experience with me and other posters who might be in a similar situation. When did you begin your job search? What resources did you find to be the most helpful? What would you have done differently? And on a related note ... I would like to obtain a full-time position with a business in Green Bay by next May. My studies have focused on the collection and analysis of economic data, but I am open to just about any opportunity that will allow me to gain experience with a reputable company. If anyone has information on possible job openings for me, I would greatly appreciate your help (even if you just post a link). I have very solid graduate and undergraduate GPAs and 2+ years of professional experience in an intern capacity. Thanks for your input, BrewerFan!
  10. I live in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The only major bank that we have in town is Wells Fargo (there are several small, regional banks too). That's where I've been buying CDs since I came to the U of ND. As I posted earlier, I thought that 0.65% APY was low when I set up my most recent CD. Now, I wish I could get that rate. For the relatively small amounts that I invest, 0.2% APY is not even worth a trip to the bank. I'll have to check out some online rates. Thanks for the tip on ally.com. I've seen their new commercials on CNBC. Has anyone invested with them before? Would you recommend them to a friend?
  11. On a related note ... I am going into my last semester of school and have just enough money to cover my tuition and living expenses. Right now, the funds that I have set aside for the Spring Semester are in a CD earning 0.65% APY. I locked into this rate in May and thought that it was poor at the time, but now CD rates are much lower. I lived very conservatively over the summer and saved most of the money that I earned at my internship. I intend on using it next summer to help with my relocation expenses. What type of very low risk investment will give me the largest return over a 6-month period? Current CD rates for that period are around 0.20% and T-Bill returns appear to be even lower. Thanks in advance for any input. I apologize for taking this thread a little off track. I did not want to start a new thread solely for this question and I figured that my concerns were somewhat in line with the original posters'.
  12. You can add sub sandwiches to the list of cheap meals. When you assemble them yourself, they are fairly inexpensive and incredibly filling. I'll buy a loaf of bread, a package of turkey, and brick of cheese at the start of the week and get 4 or 5 meals out of it. I also save money by purchasing vegetables from salad bars. Large bags of veggies (or even small ones, for that matter) tend to expire faster than I can eat them. $2 at the salad bar gets me a weeks worth of vegetables.
  13. At the start of each month I purchase a $100 gift card at my local grocery store. This is my food budget for the month and I have never exceeded it. I usually have a surplus at the end of the month and I use that to buy a few snacks or stock up on sale items. I have really kept my spending in check since I started this system a year ago. I use to spend somewhere between $150 and $175 on food each month because ... well, I had to eat, right? Now, I'm more selective about the food I eat and buy and my diet is pretty decent for a guy my age. For the record, I still buy one fast food meal each week and go out for pizza on Thursday nights with some friends. Those meals aren't part of my budget, but I look forward to them every week!
  14. I go to North Dakota and attended the game vs. UW-L. 10,200 isn't a bad crowd considering that the capacity of the Alerus Center is 13,500 and Grand Forks is a hockey town. UW-L traveled well. It was a fun atmosphere even though the game was one-sided. This year, North Dakota had better luck filling out its schedule. They even have a marquee matchup against Texas Tech slated for September. Congrats on having tennis and baseball reinstated, even if it's only for a year. Good luck with all of your fundraising efforts.
  15. There can be levels of success with the sign and trade, but I just feel there should at least be some kind of compensation like the other leagues have. I tend to agree. It's worth exploring, anyway. However, the financial benefits of not shelling out an $8mil/year contract are pretty signfiicant. If a team thinks highly of their second round draft pick, can't they offer him a 3-year contract? I believe that was the case with LRMAM and Jodie Meeks. I realize this is a moot point, but had Larry Harris signed Ramon Sessions to a 3-year deal (assuming that was feasible at the time), the Bucks wouldn't be in this predicament.
  16. I wonder how that happened? I suppose that it was possible to park at a nearby location like the Fox River Mall and simply walk up to the gates.
  17. To anyone who received Paul Molitor's autograph on the recent Rattlers' game: I'm just curious as to what time you arrived at the ballpark? A poster in the Molitor Autograph advice thread commented that he/she did not receive an autograph even though they arrived at 4:30. I was under the impression that cars would not even be allowed to lineup to park before 4:30.
  18. It's a good read if you take it with a grain of salt. Thanks for the post.
  19. The free extras look pretty nice. They almost make the $100 price tag worth it. Thanks for the post.
  20. I believe that there are between 20-22 rows in most Terrace Reserve sections. I have watched a game from the very last row and I think my seat was in row 20.
  21. Wow, that's a little dissapointing. I'm having a hard time picturing myself watching Futurama without hearing those voices. Still, I'm eager to see some new episodes. I was never a huge fan, but Futurama, in my opinion, it is better than most shows on television today. I wonder what the going rate for voice actors is? How time consuming is lending your voice to a cartoon show? I always thought that Isaac Hayes use to provide the voice of Chef over the phone from New York each week.
  22. You got that they were the two most immature guys based on that? Voluntarily giving up there time at a charity event and in his eyes not being as personable as some of the other guys? I think I'll still take my chances on Ramon Sessions. For the record, I would like to point out that I never said that Ramon Sessions' eyes were not personable. I'm not sure how you made that conclusion from my post. Obviously, that's not the way to make personnel decisions ... but could the Bucks do much worse? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Obviously, I'm putting more faith in one individual's personal account than you are. That's all there is to it.
  23. MILLER MLLRPK MLLRTM CUBHTR GOMILW BRWBRW MB FAN The 6 character limit really kills you. It's 7 in North Dakota. Isn't it 8 in Wisconsin?
  24. MILFAN might not be more relating to hot moms than brewers. ... and that's exactly why MKEFAN was my next suggestion http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif If you're only going to be in AK for a year or two, you could try: MBIN09 or MBIN10. 10 years from now, those would look pretty cool tacked up in your garage.
