  1. I wonder if Jamaal Williams is available? That would solve the Packers’ RB3/KR dilemma. He signed a 2 year / $6 million deal with Detroit, but $1.25 million was signing bonus that would stay with Detroit in the event of a trade. The contract effectively becomes 2 years / $4.75 million if he’s traded.
  2. The Rams might not have the means to improve their roster beyond signing the few draft picks they have left, but at least they don’t have to make tough decisions just to get to cap. The -$33 million doesn’t even include re-signing Adams. His current $16 million / year just falls off. +$10mm > -$33mm, right? What am I missing? I know what you are trying to do here ... i.e. getting me to admit that "OMG you're right the Packers are in trouble". Which I already did. No, that wasn’t my angle. I only brought up the Packers’ cap situation because I was mildly surprised they could be in worse shape than the Rams - a team who has signed impact free agents and traded picks for vets at a pace I never thought would be possible. While the Packers’ situation is sub-optimal, it will either get fixed next year by trading Rodgers or signing him to a massive extension that greatly reduces his 2022 cap hit. Plus, the Packers’ cap dilemma is mainly attributable to the COVID cap decrease and not gross mismanagement.

  4. The Packers are currently projected to be over the cap by $33 million in 2022 with only 39 players under contract. By comparison, the Rams are in an enviable position. Re-structure Stafford by converting his base salary to a signing bonus (adding void years, if necessary) and poof … you free up $10 million. https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space/
  5. [sarcasm]Packers counter by elevating Patrick Taylor from the Practice Squad to return kicks.[/sarcasm]
  6. In my experience, a company is more likely to let go of middling performers through ‘re-organization.’ At least that typically comes with severance pay. Layoffs, in my mind, are more large scale in nature, whereas a re-org is more strategic and intended to prune underperforming leaders or teams from the company tree. Sometimes good performers can get caught up in a re-org if their boss has underperformed, but good senior managers will find ways to hang on to productive employees.
  7. We’re 8 weeks into the season and Lamar Jackson has the 11th most rushing yards of any NFL player (so presumably more than 22 of 32 RB1s, including Aaron Jones).
  8. I don’t want to see a division rival get first crack at a franchise QB.
  9. The Bears punted while down 8 with 4:30 left in the 4th quarter. Now they’re down 11 with 1:50 left. When will teams learn?
  10. A Denis Leary look-alike is coaching the Bears today since Nagy is out due to COVID exposure.
  11. I’m all for trading Love at the deadline if the Packers can add an above average starter on a cap-friendly deal; however, I like having an affordable QB2 with upside. It’s a nice insurance policy.
  12. I thought the cap would be an issue for adding at the trade deadline, but the Packers are apparently the only NFC team above .500 with more than $5 million in available 2021 cap space: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/packers-sit-in-perfect-position-to-make-trade-addition-for-aaron-rodgers-or-they-can-keep-repeating-past-mistakes-160712787.html
  13. Someone updated a lot Wikipedia pages for individual Packer players with pictures from last week’s game (with throwback jerseys).
  14. I peeked at the Buccaneers’ remaining schedule. They’re playing against the AFC East and NFC East this season, so the Packers can’t count on a ton of help outside of the Bills (already beat the Cowboys 31-29 in Week 1). The Bucs’ 17th game is @Indianapolis.
  15. Tough break for Hill. Poor guy. With Jones and Dillon still healthy (knock on wood), I’d like to see them find a sure-handed vet for the RB3 / KR role. No razzle dazzle necessary. Just hang on to the ball and know when to take a touchback.
  16. The Packers have rushed 206 times this year. Usage as follows: Aaron Jones: 104 attempts (50.4%) A.J. Dillon: 68 attempts (33.0%) Aaron Rodgers: 18 attempts (8.7%)* All Others: 16 attempts (7.7%) * at least 5 of these are kneel downs This mix seems appropriate for a team with a clear RB1 and RB2, but to echo what others have said: There have been a few instances where the team has needed a hard 1-2 yards and it just seems obvious that you’d first try to pound with the 250-lb RB before getting cute with the play calling. That’s a very minor critique of a good coach who has navigated a lot of challenges to finish the first half the season at 7-1.
  17. I take a Z-Quill right after the 3rd quarter. And it just kicked in. Goodnight, BF.
  18. I take a Z-Quill right after the 3rd quarter.
  19. Life in the NFL is so much easier when you’re getting turnovers.
  20. I’m still stunned. We were about 12 seconds away from another classic Packers / Cardinals ending.
  21. No other team wanted Rasul Douglas a few weeks ago? Sheesh.
  22. My thoughts exactly. Why not give it to him 4 times?
  23. Yeah, I don’t think I’ve heard his name all year.
  24. I think they’ve already had their fair share of luck tonight in that department.
