  1. It’s really hard to stop teams when they’re playing with 4 downs.
  2. I think they’ve lost 4 coin tosses in a row. They’re 2-6 on the season. Sooner or later, it’s going to cost them a possession. Other than that, it’s hard to complain. I’m very pleased to be leading at halftime. I honestly thought it’d be about 21-7 Cardinals by this point.
  3. I think there’s just too much for the Packers to overcome tonight - good opponent, injuries, short rest, long flight, COVID, etc. I’ll give the Packers some credit. I think they’re a good team and Rodgers will play well enough to make things interesting. They avoid a blowout. 31-21 Cardinals Go Pack!
  4. Amari Rodgers as well. Would be nice to see him make an impact. Ah. Forget him. Thank you. If there’s ever a night to get him more involved, this would be it.
  5. No MVS tonight. That leaves them with Cobb, St. Brown, Taylor, and Winfree at WR.
  6. I appreciate the insight here. My degree is in applied economics and I’ve spent a lot of time on Data Camp the past 2 years learning Python, R, and SQL (upon the recommendation of someone on BF). Those skills will hopefully keep me employable once I hit the back 9 of my career.
  7. Prior to the 1997 stock sale, the existing 1,940 shareholders voted to give themselves a 1,000:1 split. The club then issued ~120,000 new shares. This barely diluted the voting power of the existing shareholders and, to this day, a small number of Green Bay families still control the Board of Directors. Sadly, the Nodakfan family is not one of those families and I have about as much control of the team as I do as I do Apple or Disney.
  8. The Packers are considering another stock sale: https://www.wbay.com/2021/10/27/nfl-approves-potential-green-bay-packers-stock-sale/
  9. I’m not suggesting they throw the game. They should try and win with the players who suit up. Some guys are on the fence and probably could play if the game were a must win (P. Smith, King, Bakhtiari, and MVS), but should they? Plus, Jenkins has been hurt all year even if he played Sunday. It’d be nice to get him back to 100%. Then there’s the issue of letting Rodgers take unnecessary hits … They’ll do the right thing and give a full effort with the players available, but this is such an odd confluence of events (COVID, injuries, short week, long flight, etc.). I don’t think I’m wrong in raising the question.
  10. I admit there’s probably an intangible benefit to taking the field on TNF with as many healthy bodies as possible. Looking back on the 2010 season, I think the team was galvanized by McCarthy’s ‘We’re nobody’s underdog’ comment and Matt Flynn’s strong play against the Patriots.
  11. For the sake of message board sanity, I pledge not to come back and say ‘see I told you so’ if they lose. The NBA/NFL comparison has its limitations, but I’d imagine the average NFL game is more of a physical punishment than an NBA game. Plus, we’re not looking at a 6-7 day recovery window this week (it’s 3-4 days). And I’m not suggesting they just lay down because Adams and Lazard may not be available - it’s also MVS, Bakhtiari, Meyers, King, Alexander, Preston Smith, and Za’Darius. That’s at least 8 starters (including 4 All Pros). On top of that, they’ve got a 2.5 game lead in the division and are likely to still have at least 2.5 game lead regardless what happens on TNF. There has never been a better time to take a strategic loss. I don’t think it will happen and I’m not sure I’m even advocating for it. I’m just pointing out the circumstances may never be more appropriate.
  12. The shine is coming off the Kyle Shanahan narrative awfully quickly, I think. It’s kind of like 80% of a coach’s ultimate reputation boils down to QB1… In 4+ years, Shanahan is: 6-10 4-12 13-3 6-10 2-4 I’m not seeing it either, but you’re right. Much of that is on QB play. He was a wunderkind OC when he was coaching a prime Matt Ryan.
  13. I know where you’re coming from, but many NBA stars sit out 6% of their schedule (~5 games) in the name of load management. If the NFL is going to keep adding games to the schedule and making the 17th (and 18th) game un-balanced (good teams playing good teams), I wouldn’t be surprised if you start seeing teams take strategic losses. It’s never been easier to make the playoffs. This week is a perfect case - the Packers are beat up, short-handed due to COVID, and traveling across the country to play an undefeated team on 4 days rest. I don’t think it will happen, but I can’t think of a more appropriate situation to strategically take an L. Of course, I will (deservedly) take some arrows if they win on TNF (and I hope they do - Go Pack!), but I just don’t see it happening.
  14. I’m almost positive I’m not eligible for my own HSA because I’m covered by my wife’s high deductible plan. Even if I could have my own HSA, we’d still be subject to the same annual maximum contribution of $7,100 (at least that’s what it was in 2020). I think some people strategically use HSAs after they’ve maxed out IRA / 401(k) contributions. HSAs can be invested in mutual funds once they’ve hit a critical mass (~$10,000, depending on the plan administrator). I like carrying a high HSA balance. It may not be the most strategic move, but it provides a mental accounting benefit. I like knowing we can access those funds before age 59.5 if we have a couple unlucky years in a row.
  15. I know it won’t happen, but there’s never been a better time for a ‘load management’ game.
  16. This would be the perfect week for a load management game.
  17. Some of the WFT post game fan tweets are comical. They can’t believe a Joe Barry-lead defense can hold anyone to 10 points (he was their defensive coordinator in 2015-16). https://www.yahoo.com/sports/fans-react-twitter-during-washington-215843181.html
  18. I think we’ll have a better idea of what type of team the Packers are in 5 weeks. It’s fun being 6-1, but the real test is here.
  19. I would love to look back at laugh at this thread if the Packers win the Super Bowl.
  20. Class of 2008 says hi My first job was awful, but I did it for a year. My second job paid $16/hour, but I was grateful for steady work in the right industry. Now college grads are waltzing into opportunities that took me 3.5 years to earn. I’ve been with the same company for the last 10 years, but now am starting to wonder if I’ll have to switch jobs just to keep pace with inflation. I posted last week in a different thread about how our company raised its minimum wage, but cut our 401(k) match to fund the increase. We’ve been promised better merit increases and bonuses to make up for last year, but I won’t know those results until February. Fingers crossed.
  21. I still see some angst around Gary on here and I don't really get it... He doesn't sack totals and most people just Google a guy's name and check the number of sacks. It’s not just the sack total, but the snap total through his first 2 years. Why commit so much to the Smiths and then use the #12 overall pick on a backup? I get the sack numbers don’t tell the whole story. It’s obvious Gary is impacting games now - but is it enough to warrant his selection? I don’t know.
  22. That's a pretty unreasonable standard. Is it? Unless you’re taking a QB, you should at least be getting a Day 1 starter at #12. The book on Gary is incomplete, but I don’t think I’m wrong in questioning whether that pick was the best use of draft capital.
  23. I’ve been critical of the Gary pick, but am pleased to see him playing well. I’m happy to eat some crow if he continues to look the part. However, I remain steadfast in believing the #12 overall pick should have been a stud from Day 1. Even if he gives the Packers two above average years in 2021 and 2022, he’s going to become expensive to retain. I’ll reserve further judgement while we see how the next two seasons play out.
  24. The Seattle Kraken retired #32 in honor of the 32,000 fans that put down deposits for tickets. What a smug bunch of sports fans. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/kraken-open-first-home-game-031048171.html
  25. I'm wondering how the NFL came up with the algorithm for scheduling 17th games. [sarcasm]Probably the same one that sends the Packers to play at San Francisco 3 years in a row.[/sarcasm]
