  1. I like having the HSA. It’s a neat tool. 2 gripes: 1) The contribution limit for a family is less than our out-of-pocket max. I wish we could contribute up to the amount of the max. Even though we’ve enjoyed pretty decent health, we’ve come close to maxing out in consecutive years for very normal things like our son’s birth, our son’s ear tube surgery, and a year where I needed two MRIs. 2) Since we’re on my wife’s plan, only she is eligible for a HSA. Could I tap that balance for a big expense because we’re married and a team? Sure, but it’s just easier for me to pay my small expenses out-of-pocket and let her HSA grow. Why not make every adult eligible for a HSA?
  2. My wife’s insurance has a $4,000 deductible with a $6,000 max. The plan my company offers has a $5,500 deductible with a $11,000 max. We are on her plan, as it seems to have held steady over the years, whereas my deductible and max have slowly trickled up. Both premiums are comparatively reasonable. We’ve been blessed with relatively good health. She’s been funding her health savings account and I’ve been adding $250 per month to a different savings account marked for health care. I tell the young folks on my team to build health care expenses into their budget. I go into every year mentally planning on maxing out so we’re not caught off guard financially.
  3. My health care premiums are very reasonable. It’s the high deductible and out-of-pocket max that make health care expenses unpredictable.
  4. My company just raised its minimum wage from $14 to $16 per hour, but also cut the company match on 401(k) contributions from 5% to 4% to partially offset the cost. So much for loyalty.
  5. The Packers will be wearing green this weekend at Chicago because the Bears will be sporting a white throwback: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/packers-wear-home-green-jerseys-134350660.html
  6. It’s really hard to win a Super Bowl and, when I’m agonizing over the Packers’ missed opportunities, I try to remind myself how lucky I am to have enjoyed two Super Bowl wins in my lifetime. Mahomes is still 26 and has probably not peaked yet. Wilson, on the other hand, might start to draw more criticism now that he’s 32 and missing games. I always found it odd that he never gets the blame for their Super Bowl XLIX loss. Yes, they should have run the ball, but it was only second down and he threw an interception in the end zone.
  7. The best halftime show I’ve ever seen was dogs catching frisbees. This was at a Packer game 25 years ago. Their owners would throw a frisbee the length of the field and you’d think ‘there’s no way that dog is going to catch that,’ but sure enough, the dogs could cover the length of the field and come down with the frisbee just in time. Guaranteed not to offend and the crowd went nuts. Second best halftime show: Katy Perry in 2015
  8. A reader in today’s Ask Vic column pointed out that the NFL seems to stand against racism, homophobia, and misogyny, yet they’ve hired Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg to perform during this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. I don’t mind those guys as entertainers and I think Gruden resigning was appropriate, but the hypocrisy of the NFL is unreal.
  9. Mods, can we get another Why can’t Wisconsin sports fans have nice things thread? (half joking)
  10. Poor JR Smith had to be carted off the course at his first college golf tournament because he stepped on a beehive: https://www.cbssports.com/golf/news/j-r-smith-steps-on-beehive-during-college-golf-tournament-in-north-carolina/
  11. There’s no doubt what Gruden wrote was a fireable offense (especially considering there were multiple highly questionable emails over a span of at least 3 years), but if private communications from 10 years ago are fair game, half the country might be out of a job. I now see why Tom Brady smashed his phone.
  12. I watched that video. The poor guy doesn’t even get to watch the end of the game because FOX cut to to Giants and Cowboys (who were a combined 12-20 last year but are on at 3:00 pm for some reason).
  13. Well, I get why you think it is funny as it is predictable but Jaire returning at all this season is a question mark and Gilmore was totally going to sign with the Packers if released but was traded. Stokes has been bright spot but we seem to be a bit snake bitten at CB right now. Obviously, I’d rather have King at 100% the rest of the year. But I do find it laughable that he injures his shoulder (the very same injury he came into the league with) when all heck is breaking loose … because of course, right?
  14. The Packers are 4-1, but have been outscored by their opponents 122-120. Somewhat ironically, the 2005 Packers were 1-4 through 5 games, but had outscored their opponents 124-95 thanks to a lopsided 52-3 win against … wait for it … the New Orleans Saints.
  15. Lost in all of this, Kevin King apparently exited the game with a shoulder injury.
  16. Just before the final kick, Rob Demovsky tweeted ‘They say, Never give Mason Crosby 4 chances to make a game winning FG.’ That’s pretty funny now that they’ve won.
  17. If Gutekunst would have taken Tee Higgins instead of Jordan Love, that game would never have gone to OT (half joking).
  18. The Packers out-gained the Bengals 466-367 and won the turnover battle 2-1, yet the margin of victory was razor thin because: Special Teams = Poop Show Red Zone Offense = Poop Show Red Zone Defense = Poop Show End of Half / Game Defense = Poop Show Coin Tosses = Poop Show This is why Daddy drinks.
  19. The lines were wonky all day.
  20. My age probably shows here … I know of Sharpe. I respect Sharpe. But my Packers’ memory starts around the time Favre took over for Majkowski, so he’s never been a huge figure for me.
  21. That’s a fair assessment, although the defense looked pretty good for the first 29 minutes. I think you could assign equal blame across all 3 phases. Rodgers had the pick, plus special teams had 3 miscues (missed PAT, 31-yard punt, and a 43-yard return).
  22. Is Davante Adams the best Packers WR of all-time? He might not have the longevity numbers (yet), but he’s probably the most talented. It's still Sterling Sharpe, but I would think DA would be right behind him. I’d argue he doesn’t have the longevity numbers either, but he also didn’t play with Favre (much) or Rodgers either. Stellar QB play has buoyed WR stats for the last 20-some years (see Jennings, Greg).
  23. Is Davante Adams the best Packers WR of all-time? He might not have the longevity numbers (yet), but he’s probably the most talented.
  24. Let’s run the ball, please.
  25. Wow. That was crazy good.
