  1. Some interesting color on the luxury tax from Marc Lasry: https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/263980/Luxury-Tax-Was-Big-Part-Of-Milwaukees-Offseason-Calculus
  2. I believe the compensation for the new punter was a 2023 6th Rounder for Punter + 2023 7th Rounder. I’m having trouble pasting Twitter links today.
  3. Ka’Dar Hollman was reportedly released by the Texans. [sarcasm]Is Bill O’Brien still in charge down there?[/sarcasm]
  4. I will always remember JK as the punter who got cramps in Buffalo … the one NFL city that might actually be cooler than Green Bay.
  5. Ughh. So in addition to the 5th rounder they spent on JK, they have to give the Rams something? All for a job Justin Vogel did just fine.
  6. Here are the details of the Alec Ingold / James Morgan ESPN matchup that never was: https://www.wrn.com/2014/08/wiaa-not-willing-to-bend-the-rules-to-promote-their-product/ Turns out, ESPN wanted to move the game from Friday night to fill a TV window on Sunday. The WIAA blocked it because both teams would have played on Sunday and then again on Friday (5 days rest). The WIAA does not allow teams to play two games during the same calendar week in the regular season. They must have separate considerations for the postseason. Alec Ingold and James Morgan each went on to play in plenty of televised games, but for 100 other kids at Bay Port and Ashwaubenon, this would have been their only opportunity to ever play on ESPN. What a shame.
  7. Mike Richards is now out as Executive Producer: https://www.wbay.com/2021/08/31/mike-richards-out-executive-producer-jeopardy-wheel-fortune-reports-say/ I don’t think that’s a big surprise. It’s hard to envision him staying on as EP and being effective.
  8. Yesterday was truly Internet Christmas between this story and then finding out Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham (who is rich now) was demoted to remedial classes at the Harvard online extension after bragging about ‘getting into Harvard.’ https://www.barstoolsports.com/blog/3381015/farrah-abraham-is-suing-harvard-university-because-a-teacher-told-her-she-stinks-at-reading A few years ago, ESPN wanted to televise a local HS football game that featured Alec Ingold at QB for Bay Port and James Morgan at QB for Ashwaubenon. At the time, Ingold had committed to Northern Illinois (to play QB) and Morgan (now with the Jets) was headed to Bowling Green. The WIAA nixed it because ESPN wanted the game moved to a TV window on Thursday and the WIAA must require 6 or 7 days between football games. I wish they’d allow one exception per year for rare opportunities like that.
  9. I’ll always remember Ed Asner from Elf (hard to believe that movie has been out for 18 years). He also voiced Carl Fredricksen, the old man, in Disney / Pixar’s Up.
  10. ^^^ Ah. Good color there, thank you. I figured it had something to do with insurance covering a set amount, which happens to be plenty for some diabetics and not enough for others. Do you think there are some folks out there skipping testing just to save the strips and pocket a few dollars?
  11. Hanson was fighting an uphill battle anyway. He was leapfrogged by Josh Myers and Royce Newman on draft day.
  12. Isaiah McDuffie is probably the only other 2021 draftee on the bubble and I think he’s the beneficiary of Kamal Martin’s surprising decline. My gut says the Packers keep Van Lanen over last year’s 6th round pick Jake Hanson because they have more depth on the interior.
  13. I often see signs around town that read ‘We buy diabetic testing supplies.’ I wonder how diabetic testing supply arbitrage became a cottage industry?
  14. Off balance, while running backwards / sideways … just an unnecessary through unless it was 4th down (it wasn’t).
  15. Rajon Rondo expected to take buy out with Grizzlies, sign with Lakers: https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/263960/Grizzlies-To-Buy-Out-Rajon-Rondo-Rondo-Expected-To-Sign-With-Lakers
  16. Why? It's fairly common for some outdoor home teams to opt for home whites during the hot summer months. Almost every team has done it at some point. I know Jacksonville does it frequently for September home games. Some may call it gamesmanship, but it seems unsportsmanlike to me.
  17. Twist: Recall, I had hoped my young son would take to tennis. I was planning on enrolling him in lessons this Fall after he turned 5. Since I last posted in this thread, he’s become nuts about basketball. I think his interest has been fueled by a combination of the Bucks’ championship run and Space Jam (I showed him the 90s version, not the LeBron version). Even though I’m not a huge basketball guy, I’m happy to indulge him because, in my mind, basketball is infinitely better than Pokémon, digging for worms, or whatever else kids are into. I found a ‘basketball fundamentals” class at the YMCA that begins in October. He’s pumped. We picked up his jersey yesterday and he wore it home. Anyways, I visited the website for our local high school’s youth basketball program to see if they offered some type of skills clinic and discovered that travel basketball begins in 2nd grade (face palm).
  18. Do the Bills usually wear white at home? If not, that’s such a chicken s*** move.
  19. Just a hunch, but inclusion in the inevitable ESPN-driven super league. They’d probably receive an invite anyway, but this way, maybe they feel like they have more influence.
  20. I probably had it twice somewhere in between 1990 and 2010, but since they re-invented themselves as a value-oriented takeout place, I probably have it once per month. You’ll never hear me call in great pizza, but it’s inexpensive and convenient.
  21. You’ve never had Little Caeser’s in your life?
  22. It also looks like signing Funchess may have cost the Packers a 2021 7th round comp pick because it netted out the loss of BJ Goodson to the Browns. https://overthecap.com/compensatory-picks/
  23. It's his time for a breakout season. In a contract year where the Packers are nearly capped out … that seems about right.
  24. Over The Cap has the Packers juuuuust missing out on a 3rd rounder for Corey Linsley. They get the first 4th round comp pick instead. Jamaal Williams is still projected to net a 6th rounder. https://overthecap.com/compensatory-picks/
  25. Wasn’t Sitton replaced by Lane Taylor? I thought that transition was rather seamless, considering how abruptly it started. TJ Lang may have been replaced by Jahri Evans.
