  1. A big misconception about the 2009 ‘bailout’ is that most companies received free money. In actuality, they received the equivalent of loans with a 7% interest rate. A total of $634 billion was disbursed in TARP funds. Only $390 billion was returned (some companies folded), but the taxpayers also earned another $364 billion in dividends, interest, and other fees. So, in total, the taxpayers collected $754 billion on their initial $634 billion investment (a profit of $120 billion). https://projects.propublica.org/bailout/
  2. Derek Sherrod snapped his femur as a rookie and then missed a year and a half. I don’t think he ever fully recovered. That’s not really his fault (or anyone’s fault). That’s just football. Prior to Sherrod, TT had hit every first rounder except Justin Harrell. 2005: Rodgers 2006: Hawk (I still count a 9-year starter as a hit) 2007: Harrell (boo) 2008: Nelson (technically a high second round pick) 2009: Raji / Matthews 2010: Bulaga
  3. Wallus: I’ve been meaning to ask, are your tenants doing OK? If the government can wave a magic wand and declare a rent holiday, does that make people less willing to invest in rental properties?
  4. I believe hard work can overcome most obstacles in the long run, but absent an immediate turnaround, the Class of 2020’s career earnings will be lower than recent graduating classes.
  5. My department is onboarding a soon-to-be college grad at a salary that’s roughly 18% less than what was offered to new hires last year. The job market just gave up a decade’s worth of gains in 2 months. The power balance has shifted back from employees to employers.
  6. I generally agree, but the Packers have invited the question by using their first pick on the other side of the ball for 8 straight years.
  7. I think it’s a neat fact. That’s all. I’m sure most QBs would take a quartet of Nelson, Jennings, Jones, and Driver over a single All-Pro any day.
  8. I totally overlooked Rison, but upon closer inspection, he only had 1 regular season TD with Green Bay in 1996. Mark Ingram Sr. had 3 from Favre in 1995. Randy Moss had 2 from Favre in 2010 when they were both wearing purple.
  9. This was bouncing around Twitter earlier today: Aaron Rodgers has only thrown 1 of his 364 TD passes to a first round draft pick and that was to Marcedes Lewis in 2019. Here are the totals from some of his contemporaries: Peyton Manning - 293 of 539 Brett Favre - 127 of 508 Tom Brady - 107 of 541 Drew Brees - 104 of 547 Ben Roethlisberger - 69 of 363 Philip Rivers - 35 of 397 Here’s where I think most of Favre’s came from: Sterling Sharpe (42), Bubba Franks (32), Javon Walker (22), Terry Glenn (2). That’s 98. The rest must have come from his final 3 years. Desmond Howard did not have a receiving TD in 1996 or 1999. Did I miss a Packer?
  10. I used to think ordering groceries online was pretentious, but finally tried it when Pick-n-Save dropped its $5 fee to promote social distancing. They’ll probably bring the fee back eventually, but permanently convert some shoppers to online-only in the process.
  11. My wife and I don’t watch a lot of TV. We’ve gotten by just fine with broadcast TV and a TiVo for many years. If the major networks aren’t able to air new content in the Fall due to COVID-related production issues, we may add a streaming subscription and never look back.
  12. I work for a local bank. For years, we’ve been shifting dollars from physical branches to digital solutions, but COVID-19 will be the catalyst that coverts long time holdouts. In 10 years, I bet the total branch count in the US will be about 50% of what you see today. If it’s higher than that, it’s because banks will be building new branches with 1/2 the square footage of the old branches they’re replacing.
  13. JBS is FINALLY closing in Green Bay. They operated for at least 2 weeks with 100+ cases and as recently as yesterday with 300+ cases. What a horrible, horrible corporate citizen.
  14. Not draft related, but Fox is apparently re-airing Super Bowl XXXI at 2:00 pm today.
  15. I think Mims is gone before #62, but if you told me before the draft that the Packers got Mims and Love in the first two rounds, I probably would have been happy with that.
  16. I was a 1099 employee my first year out of college while working in a commissioned sales role. It was the best job I could get due to the financial crisis and subsequent recession. I wasn’t earning that much money and was paying the full 12.4% on the little money I did earn. Brutal.
  17. I’ve warmed up to the pick today, but am still skeptical. By many accounts, he was the best player available on the board and it was conviction pick by the GM. I can live with it. Plus, if we’re being honest with ourselves, what’s the hit rate on Packers’ first round picks since XLV? 30%?
  18. Jordan Love will wear #10 for the Packers. Darrius Shepherd must have been reassigned #9.
  19. Given the Jordan Love pick, do the Packers look to trade Tim Boyle? Maybe they can package him with another pick to move up a few spots? I doubt his stand alone value is higher than a 6th or 7th round pick, but he should have some positive trade value. I’d hate to see him get cut this Fall after investing 2 years in his development.
  20. I would - and ordinarily, I’m the last guy to advocate for that type of move. However, 2021 could be the weakest draft in history if there’s no college football next season. Plus, they’ll still likely have 3 compensatory picks to help backfill depth.
  21. Look on the bright side, if Rodgers breaks his collar bone again, we’ll go from ‘we’re totally screwed’ to ‘let’s wait and see what happens.’
  22. Nailed it.
  23. I hate this pick. The Packers were one game away from the Super Bowl last year and Jordan Love doesn’t get them any closer in 2020 or 2021.
  24. Of course the Packers get no TV time when they’re on the clock. Happens every year.
