  1. I don't understand putting the #8 hitter on base there. Tolbert is batting a robust .165. Throw the ball over the plate and see what happens...
  2. I'll take over 15 EDIT: Depends on how you count it as well. MLB counts LOB for each batter, whereas I would look at it total, not for each batter.
  3. Probably not at this rate, but a little less. He has 13 HR in 190 AB's (14.61 AB/HR). Divided Mauer's season average of ABs by that rate, and that would be about 41 HRs. IDK if he is a 41 HR guy, but I don't have any doubt that he can get 25-35 HR per year from here on out.
  4. Doubt it. There is no way the Twins will be able to match the $/year and length that another organization will give him. If he is smart, he'll sign with the Sox and their puny left field wall (even though he hits a lot of HR opposite field). They'll probably give Mark Texeira type money, maybe more. My prediction is that he is gone after the 2010 season. As for Mauer batting .400, wake me up in the middle of August if he is still close. I'm not sure the talk is warranted yet. I'm a huge Joe Mauer fan and think he is easily the best left handed hitter in baseball, but batting .400 is such a feat that I can't find myself to get too excited about the prospects of it after 43 games.
  5. It was Vitamin B12, right?
  6. Blame the union for not destroying the results of the test. They made their own bed in this one.
  7. per the NYT. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/17/sports/baseball/17doping.html?_r=1&ref=sports Can't say this is exactly the shocker of the century. Probably not even all that newsworthy (unfortunately)
  8. Games I am looking forward to: Assassin's Creed 2, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
  9. Our 1-2 in the future (next year and beyond) is going to be Alcides Escobar-X. That X could be McGehee, Weeks, Hart, or Hardy. It all depends on how the situation works out with Gamel, Hall, Hardy, Hart, Escobar, Weeks, and McGehee. My guess is that at least one of them will not be on the team next year, and best guesses are Hall, Hart, Hardy or McGehee. I would love to see Ricky drop down to either 2 or 5 in the lineup (probably 5). If he could continue to rake like he was this year, that would be some awesome protection behind Prince.
  10. When I think of an ace, I think of this: 1) Someone who takes the ball every 5 days for his team. He isn't injury prone and alwasy seems to be out there 2) A guy who is able to give his team a chance to win almost every time out, no matter who he is facing 3) A guy who provides consistent results and can be depended on in the regular season and especially in the post season 4) Obviously someone that may have good "stuff", but more importantly can pitch deep into games (Note: This does not mean he needs to be able to have a k/9 of 8-10, but rather is able to pitch effectively and get outs whether that is through the strikeout or not) 5) A guy you can give the ball to when your team is in a bad slide, knowing he is likely to get you a win I'm sure there are other things, but that is kind of what I would characterize as an "ace". I don't base an ace on his "stuff" as much as I do reliability and effectiveness because there are way too many examples of guys that have GREAT stuff, but won't take the hill every 5 days because they will probably be injured at some point (Ben Sheets, Rich Harden, Kerry Wood, and Mark Prior to name a few).
  11. Oh wow, I had no idea (I don't live in and am not from Milwaukee) Brewtacular -- If you or your wife are into musicals at all, try to catch Wicked while you are down there. Definately a top notch production, and very entertaining.
  12. I really liked Ed Debevic's restaurant when I went there. The waiters are hilariously rude and the food was pretty good. It is kind of like a 50's style diner theme where the waiters/waitresses will dance on the bar every hour or so (if I am remembering correctly). The best part was when I tried to ask our waiter for a refill on my soda. He passed by and I said "excuse me sir." The waiter promptly replied with "Don't worry, I didn't smell it." Been using that line ever since. It's right in downtown Chicago, so if you want to stop by there while you are doing Navy Pier or something, it is pretty convenient. Linkage
  13. This team is so pathetic right now. How many opportunities like the last 2 innings (1st and 2nd, no outs) have we squandered in the last week or two? I can't wait for the hitting to get back on track because this is painful to watch.
  14. A few quick ideas: Rollie Ned Harvey Uek (short for Ueker obviously) Lew (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's given name was Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor) Kaj (from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) Hosehead (hope I'm not the only one that has seen Strange Brew here) Edit: Just for clarification, I imagined Kaj as sounding like the Taj from the Taj Mahal, but with a K.
  15. I can't stop laughing because of this. I just think about some dude walking around smelling like bacon all the time or someone coming into a business meeting smelling like bacon. Pure awesomeness.
  16. This got me thinking. Skip the celery stick and just put an extra crispy strip of bacon (or 2) in your bloody mary. If it breaks, so be it! I'll have to try this sometime. Also, I'm dying (pun?) to try chocolate covered bacon. I imagine it as the same sweet and salty goodness like french fries dipped in ice cream!
  17. maps.google.com --> My Maps --> Create New Map There you can put little markers to show different places. Make it public. And if you want to link to it, there is a link button on the top right of the map edit area. I think this should work for your purpose.
  18. Yeah, I play on Yahoo from time-to-time. It's pretty fun, but you guys are correct with the assessment about grouchy veterans.
  19. This is epic. I haven't seen it, but can't wait until I get home to check the MLB.tv replay of this game. Apparently there was a play at the plate in the Cubs game after a passed ball by Zambrano. He thought the guy was out, the ump called him safe. Zambrano exploded, made contact with the ump, got tossed from the game. Right after the ump tossed him, I guess Zambrano turned and fired the baseball out to the warning track and also threw his glove. Then he proceeded to beat the snot out of the Gatorade machine in the dugout. Like I said, that sounds like the highlight of the year. I can't wait to see this.
  20. What can baseball do at this point? I'm all for the lifetime ban. 50 games seemed harsh when there was no ban previously (or it was something stupid like 10 games), but I don't think it's enough. If they really want to get rid of steroids in baseball, they will throw a lifetime ban out there. That might make guys think a little harder about it what they put in their bodies.
  21. Don't look now, but excluding this game, JJ Hardy is hitting .328/.429/.531 (AVG/OBP/SLG) this month with 9K/10BB. Pretty torrid.
  22. Absolutely not. The last thing I would do is pitch to Pujols with men on 2nd and 3rd when 1st base is open and a rookie is batting behind him...
