  1. I would argue that they did get someone like Dallas when they signed Brett Anderson. Both left handed, both are 31. Looking at last year, era is similar (Kuechel slightly lower), whip is similar (Anderson is slightly lower). For those who look at won loss record (I generally don't) Anderson had a 59% w/l record (13-9), Kuechel 50% (8-8). Are you saying you would like a second pitcher like Anderson. Not that I don't want Kuechel, but it isn't like he is an ace.
  2. 11 year veteran, 8 years with an era under 4.5. Three of which are sub 3.00 and 2 more below 4.00. I think if he stays healthy throughout his career he is likely a pretty big name. Also, playing most of his career on the west coast (Athletics, Dodgers, and Rockies) tends to minimize the name recognition. I am a bit surprised his strikeout numbers are so low, but all in all I am actually very happy with this signing. When healthy he is a very good pitcher.
  3. Anyone ever hear the phrase "slap your momma good"? My wife was in Kentucky and asked a waitress if the catfish was any good. She was told it was "slap your momma good". Apparently, according to a google search, it means something is so good that when you get home you slap your momma because your mad that for years when she made that for you it wasn't as good as what you just ate.
  4. Does anyone else remember the interview with Lyles last year where he was asked what the difference was between his numbers in Pitt vs. Mil. He replied that all the credit went to Grandal. If that is the case and we no longer have Grandal, maybe it is a good thing we didn't resign him.
  5. I grew up in Fort Atkinson. They were occasionally called bubblers there. With the proliferation of those water coolers with the 5 gallon water jugs on top I think the term bubbler will again become more commonplace.
  6. Taken from Rotoworld Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Athletics have brought Jake Diekman back on a two-year deal with a club option for 2022. The deal is worth $7.5 million guaranteed. The A's cut Diekman loose at the end of October by declining his $5.75 million mutual option for 2020, but the two sides were able to hammer out a new agreement. The next blurb was about 3 KC non-tenders who were expected to resign with the Royals so it does happen.
  7. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that Hiura will be playing a full season. Since Moose played second the first part of the season, I figure that negates about half of the Moose loss. Urias should off set that further. Also, I am confident that they will find a capable replacement at first. That leaves trying to overcome the loss of Grandall as the big piece to fill. The previously mentioned "ifs" could go along way to make that up. Can the team still be improved? Obviously! But, I don't think we are that far from where we started 2019. Would I have liked to see Moose back? Yes! But, I trust that Stearns is doing what is best for the franchise, both short and long term.
  8. Buzzers eh? Why not put a buzzer (or some other communication device) on the pitcher. Kind of like how the NFL allows communication between coach and QB. Have bench call pitches, many teams already do.
  9. Anyone else remember years ago, back in the days of County Stadium and Bernie's Chalet, when the Brewers were accused of stealing signs. Apparently Bernie had binoculars and white gloves and used them to relay signs. I believe the gloves and binoculars were actually found. Also, I had the opportunity to attend a game in a skybox this year. Spent most of the time inside eating, drinking. visiting, etc. Anyway the tv's were on about a 10 second delay. I was told that it was a league mandate to prevent sign stealing, so the league knew it was going on in some stadiums at some point in the past and had taken steps to address the issue. Apparently more steps need be taken.
  10. I am with you on the gender reveals. Was at one a couple of weeks ago - what a waste of time.
  11. "On the deer thing, I saw a buck get absolutely lit up outside Harford this week. A legit buck, rack and all. This thing was sprinting across highway 60 about 50 feet in front of me, then a sedan hit it on the other side. The bumper fell off, and this thing went twirling ~ 20 feet high. It got so high up it landed on the grass. He got up wobbling but can't believe he lasted much longer." I have been unfortunate enough to hit f deer in my life. The first one I hit with a '89 Firebird while doing about 60mph. It went off my hood and windshield up in the air over my car and the car driving following me actually drove under it..
  12. I like to look at this as a parent. If my kid wants to be an athlete I don't want him/her to feel pressured to use steroids just to keep up. Because as a general rule, the only time they provide a competitive advantage is when player A is using and player B isn't. On the other hand, if my child has suffered an injury that needs surgery to correct the problem, then yes have the surgery. It is not just about competing, but has to do with quality of life going forward. And while there are no absolutes when a person has surgery, generally there are not long term health risks associated with surgery. One has negative long term health effects, the other doesn't.
  13. Clark??? you mean Grisham, right?
  14. Yeah, I know, I say sheepishly.
  15. Briefly. He was on the field with us when Toyota "presented me the keys". He gave me a game used bat. I asked if that was the bat he used to hit the Rav and he said that he broke that one the next night.
  16. Had seats behind home plate, 2nd row one time. I found the netting annoying for about 10 minutes, then my brain adjusted and I didn't even notice. Netting won't prevent me from sitting anywhere. Cost of tix is another matter. I generally don't have to worry about the netting.
  17. Back to the photo of the stunned fans. Have to love the jubilant Brewer fan in the upper left corner. Guys got guts celebrating like that in the middle of a Cardinal crowd.
  18. I have to give the credit to my wife. We thought about 11 HIT IT, but you can't get that on the Brewer plates so she came up with H1T 1T. Ultimately, we decided to go with regular plates, but we spent a lot of time thinking of personalized plates. I felt like I kind of owed to Moose as I was the lucky S.O.B. who won the car!
  19. Second hint: What kind of car did I get?
  20. Hint: Why would use 1's instead of i's?
  21. No you didn't suck. We enjoyed you very much. Also, I recently read an article that mentioned you guys. If I remember correctly it was a list of the top "emo' albums of all time and The Promise Ring was mentioned and then it said that a former member of The Promise Ring was playing in Dramatic Lovers, and I thought to myself "hey those were the guys that opened for Castle Comer".
  22. It has been years 8+ years since I posted. A few months ago I reapplied to be able to post (my old user name was ET BBAL). I thought this was a good thread to re-introduce myself. Anyway, a couple of years ago my child who I believe was in 7th grade, maybe 8th, at the time wanted to go to the rave to see Panic! At The Disco. Said there was a parent that would take him. We were uncomfortable about this arrangement. I would have just said no, but mom said she would take him. That morphed into we would take him. We are in the middle of the pit and the first band goes on (Junior Junior I believe) and suddenly I am ready to pass out. Not sure if my blood sugar crashed or if I got claustrophobic, but I had to get out of the crowd. So now I am at a show I didn't want to go to, sitting against the wall all by myself, listening to a band that I thought was really bad (apologies to any Junior Junior fans) and to say I was not happy is an understatement. Anyway the second band comes on - Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls - and I absolutely loved him/them. Went on line and bought some CD's the next day. The first time in at least 12 years that I had purchased any music. Since them we have seen him 3 more times. Hence, my new user name. I am trying to spread the word. Kind of punkish (he used to describe his music ad folk/country/punk), but very upbeat and positive. And he is almost non-stop touring. From England, but often plays in the states. His website lists every show he has ever played and during every show he references what show your at. As of Aug 25th he was at 2389. That is a lot of shows! Another band that we recently discovered at Collectivo Coffee of all places, and again because my kid wanted to see someone else is Castle Comer. They are from Australia, although it sounds like they have a benefactor in the Chicago area which allows them to survive and play shows in the midwest. I think they are on the upswing. High energy lots of fun.
  23. I recently got a new Rav 4 and considered Brewer/vanity plates. I ultimately decided against doing so, but if I had it would have been H1T 1T. Who can figure out why?
