    Yeah, it doesn't really matter I guess, since Reed will be gone when Hart is back anyway. I still would've kept Boggs, because he'd be more likely to get through waivers during the season.

    You'd run a huge risk of benching Gomez after his fine spring. Don't forget Morgan put up a lousy .633 OPS last year (compared to Gomez' .655) and he lacks the power Gomez has. Despite his speed, Morgan gets thrown out a lot trying to steal. Gomez is the better base stealer. I'm not so sure Morgan is the better player. I'm not sure I want to judge guys on spring stats. Reed hit .393, Almonte hit .382 and Zealous Wheeler hit .379. Those numbers don't really mean squat to me. Until Gomez learns how to consistently draw walks at at least a 1/10 ratio of walks per AB, he's an offensive liability. There's enough history to suggest that he likely won't do what he needs to do to not be a liability. I'm not saying that this means Morgan will outplay Gomez, I'm just not going to put much stock in Gomez's spring numbers. Actually Almonte is hitting .441 and Reed is hitting .379, but nonetheless you're right. Either way, Almonte is gonna make the team for his numbers, and Reed might too. McGehee did a few years ago. It can translate, but there's also times where it's meaningless. We'll have to wait and see.

    I'm really not worried about Gomez's confidence. He had a good spring, and if he keeps playing well he won't lose his spot. Morgan is here as out 4th outfielder, who is capable of taking over for Gomez, or for really any of our outfielders if they go down. I highly doubt that Roenicke will even start platooning him with Gomez right away. He has to give Gomez a shot first. If he falters, like many believe he will, then it will be time to start letting Morgan play more. This is a very good pickup by Doug to provide insurance in the outfield. Also, I'd start him in RF instead of Kotsay right now.

    I hope this means Reed goes to AAA also. I'd rather keep Boggs for now, because he's a switch-hitter.

    I'm back to say that I now love Doug, and love this trade, just like I said I'd do earlier in the thread if we traded for Morgan.

    Thank you Doug. Now I like both trades. Morgan immediately is our best backup outfielder, is better than Dickerson, is a legitimate CF, and could step in for Gomez if he gets hurt or sucks. Therefore, I love the trade.

    I'd do it just to get Matt Kemp. He's the best player in that trade. Phillips/Kinsler and Garcia/Venters is pretty even.

    The thing is that Parra is a relief pitcher, so he doesn't need much time to get back. There's a chance he could get back by April 6.

    It's 5 OF's, and 12 pitchers is pretty common, especially with starters not named Suppan, Davis, and Bush.

    Seeing as he hasn't thrown for a couple weeks, he probably will be starting from scratch actually. Even if he takes 4 starts before he's ready, that will likely put him in line to start April 26. I think that's been the plan all along. We will have to fill 2 starts, no big deal.

    I figured this would be the case. They said he'd be pitching if it was the regular season. I think he'll be good to go, which is good because we need him healthy.

    Yeah, that's great news. He's still pretty far from throwing in a game though. He'll have to move to long toss, then probably a few bullpen sessions. Might still be awhile, but at least he threw with no pain. Big step. I'm still thinking he'll make that start on April 26 at the earliest.

Not sure I like either move, especially keeping Almonte. I think he'll disappoint pretty quickly in a pinch-hitting role. Spring number don't mean much, even though he has been on fire all spring.

    Yeah, the Greinke trade only had 29 pages during he offseason. This trade probably doesn't deserve 7.

    Apparently the USA Today Baseball preview edition came out today, and we were picked 4th in the NL Central behind the Reds, Cards, and Cubs. I think it was based on these scouts too. TH mentioned it in his blog this morning. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/118703744.html

    My roommate had mono a couple years ago, and he could barely sit through a class. I;m surprised that Arroyo can pitch with it. It usually just causes terrible weakness and fever. Basically knocks you out for awhile, where all you can do is rest. He's lucky he didn't get it bad I guess.

    Loe, Egan, Segovia and Green are all similar pitchers to Mitre and we've gotten all of them either from the Rule V or minor league deals in the past two years. Yeah, I think the point of this trade was just that we needed to get rid of an outfielder, and the Yankees needed to drop a pitcher. Nothing more to it really, just added a need for both teams. I would think that if Doug and Ron were planning on keeping Dickerson long-term, that he wouldn't have been traded. It didn't initially come off that way to any of us, but I'd have to think that is the case.
