  1. If Suppan is on the mound on April 9 when I'm sitting in the stands, I will die a little inside. I've witnessed him lose us games time and time again, and if it is allowed to continue to happen I will be pissed. However, I suspect that it will happen.
  2. I know all of this. What I'm basing it on is the fact that McCalvy hints at Suppan being the #4 in the article. Seems like he is being given the upper hand in my opinion.
  3. http://brewersbeat.mlblogs.com/archives/2010/02/spring_rotation_set.html This almost seems like they have Suppan set up for the 4 spot unless he does really bad in spring, which I don't like. Seems to me that it's set up to be between Bush and Parra for the last spot.
  4. I also got a yes for marquee and nothing about opening day.
  5. Here's my take on things... Rotation: Gallardo, Wolf, Davis, Bush, Parra Bullpen: Hoffman, Hawkins, Coffey, Stetter, Villanueva, Vargas, Narveson Lineup: Weeks, Escobar, Braun, Fielder, McGehee, Hart, Zaun, Gomez Bench: Counsell, Gerut, Edmonds, Inglett, Kottaras DL: Riske I think that everything but the last rotation spot, last bullpen spot, and 3 bench spots are pretty much set. I think that Bush will beat out Suppan in Spring Training. Suppan will likely be released unless he miraculously shows that he is worth something to the team. I think Narveson gets the last bullpen spot, so we don't risk losing him. He will be good insurance as a 6th starter. I think that Edmonds is pretty much guaranteed a job unless he gets hurt, and it seems as though Inglett has the upper hand as well. I think Kottaras gets the backup catcher spot, so Lucroy can get some more at-bats in AAA. Riske starts on the DL. Seems pretty straight forward to me.
  6. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/82825007.html Apparently Melvin likes his bat. Sounds like he's gonna be the other backup infielder with Counsell. Kiss of death for Irribaren and Heether. I bet Melvin signs a righty backup outfielder now. Wouldn't mind Reed Johnson.
  7. There's really no reason why Damon would want to come here, and we don't have the extra money to offer him, so I don't know why people keep thinking it's an option. I have to agree that he'd look good in RF for us, and in this lineup, but it's just not realistic.
  8. With hearing that Melvin is most likely looking at another lefty bat for the outfield, does anyone think that Gabe Gross would be a decent addition? I think he'd be a nice backup in RF for Hart, and he could also get some starts in CF, and be a good pinch-hitter.
  9. Eh idk, I think Capuano was better than Hill when he was healthy, and Peterson can help him bounce back as well. I guess only time will tell though. And we probably won't sign Mulder now. I heard that the Cubs, Cardinals, and Mets are more interested than us now.
  10. Fine with me for a 11th/12th man in the bullpen. He should bounce back ok.
  11. The main thing you gotta look at with the pitching is that Wolf and Davis will be replacing Suppan and Looper, who both had horrible ERA's last year, which both Wolf and Davis might be able to lower be over a run. That is a huge difference for the rotation, and you also gotta figure that Bush will at least be decent, or improve, and that Parra will improve. That makes our rotation significantly better than last year. The offense might be slightly worse, but then again they will bring a different dimension with the running game. I think that if Escobar, Weeks, and Gomez can get on base consistently, or at least 2 of them can, then we will be in good shape. I expect Hart to bounce back from last year as well. So I see the offense as a wash, and the pitching as much improved. Hopefully, that will lead to us competing again this year.
  12. #25 will look pretty weird to me, but I'm happy about it because I also have a Gallardo #49 jersey that I didn't want messed up.
  13. I think the big question now is whether or not Gallardo will give up his #49 to Davis.
  14. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/80821237.html Per TH, sounds like something might be in the works to fill that spot.
  15. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/10509588/Buzz:-Latest-Hot-Stove-news Little blurb in there about the Brewers talking with the Mariners about Morrow. I don't know if there's anything to it, but it makes me wonder what it would take to get him. Edit: activated link
  16. Correia re-signed with the Pads so he isn't out there, although DM tried to get him via trade before that happened. I think we stand pat unfortunately.
  17. I doubt that will happen, because the Mets haven't acquired any extra pitching. They'd only give up Maine if they had added a better starter to their rotation like Lackey, who is now going to Boston.
  18. McGehee has surgery on his knee, so it shouldn't be a problem anymore. He played himself into the everyday 3rd basemen already, and Gamel did nothing with the PT he got. DHing in the 2 interleague series won't get him adequate AB's at all. That's like 20 AB's. McGehee won't play any 2b, Counsell or whoever we have as utility man will. The only way he plays is if someone goes down for the year as you said.
  19. Good guy. I remember being excited when we got him in the Sexson deal, but then I got caught up in the Rickie hype by the end. I also remember that HR off of Johnson to beat the Yanks. It's probably my best memory of him.
  20. There's no way we will offer Cameron arbitration. The whole reason for getting Gomez was so we could let Cam go and clear salary. Offering him arby is too big of a risk in my opinion. In other news, Olney said in his blog today that the Brewers have a shot at Lackey. TH reported it as well. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/69591242.html
  21. Melvin said he couldn't get any pitcher that he wanted in return for Hardy, so he took the best offer on the table, we can't really be mad about that. Hardy had to go, and Escobar had to play. Doug will use the money on free agent pitching.
  22. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/69391617.html Some of Melvin's comments on the trade.
  23. I sure hope so! If that happens, then I'll be very pleased.
  24. I would have to think that Melvin is targeting someone in free agency with the money that would've been spent on Cam, and possibly the money that Looper would be getting.
  25. I don't mind this trade that much. Granted Gomez has underacheived so far in his career, but I honestly think he still has a lot of upside. I'm pretty sure Melvin wouldn't do this if he thought he could get more. He obviously wanted to fill a need right away. Hopefully, this at least means he'll use the money that would've went to Cam on pitching. That's all we can hope for right now. Also, we can hope that Gomez turns it around in Milwaukee. It was basically and underachiever for and underachiever, the difference is that Hardy has played well before. Hopefully, this doesn't come back to bite us.
