  1. Pujols deal 2.0 is basically my only thought on this.
  2. This expressions my emotions well too. 4 more days! http://i57.tinypic.com/i4qr0l.jpg http://i57.tinypic.com/2ztk3sz.jpg
  3. I agree with those set ups. Seems like a likely scenario. I also hope that Overbay is batting 8th whenever he's in the lineup.
  4. So it's now looking like... Gomez Segura Braun Ramirez Lucroy Weeks/Gennett Davis Reynolds/Overbay 6-8 will probably a bit different at times depending on who is in the lineup, but 1-5 is cemented.
  5. DM: Ron, you're keeping Wang! Ron: What? DM: You're Keeping Wang. He's good for the long-term future. Ron: But I wanna win now! DM: My decision is final! Ron: OK, but if I'm keeping Wang, I want Overbay! DM: Why? He looks washed up. Ron: I need more veteran grittiness. DM: Fair enough. I have no idea what really lead to this decision, this is simply my guess as to how this final roster decision came about, if even indeed both Overbay and Wang are on the roster. It's pretty clear that Francisco sealed his fate last season. He never had a chance to make this roster. Overbay was signed with the intention of keeping him all along.
  6. Hopefully Mike Carp if it's a trade.
  7. ‏@Todd_Rosiak 23m Further clarity could come at first base later today, as it appears Juan Francisco's locker has been packed up in the Maryvale clubhouse. Looks like Francisco has been traded or released. That means Overbay has made the team. Saw it coming but still, ugh.
  8. @Todd_Rosiak 23m Further clarity could come at first base later today, as it appears Juan Francisco's locker has been packed up in the Maryvale clubhouse. Looks like it's Overbay over Francisco. Sigh.
  9. As far as Duke goes, he either needs to be added to the roster or told he won't be on March 26. If he isn't added and is sent to the minors then he gets a $100,000 retention bonus and June 1 opt-out date. In some cases, a la Corey Patterson a few years ago, the player will be released to avoid the bonus, and immediately re-sign a minor-league deal the next day. It really doesn't affect Overbay and Reynolds because they have their own opt-out dates in the contracts they signed. I believe Overbay's is tomorrow, and Reynolds' is on Monday. If they choose to exercise their right to be released, then the Brewers have 48 hours to either do so or add them to the roster.
  10. I agree with this. Definitely the right idea.
  11. Likely will have a fractured orbital bone. Hopefully not a fractured skull too. It's a great sign that he never went unconscious though.
  12. This is just terrible. I hope he's ok. No way of knowing where exactly the ball hit him on the head. Prayers go out to him and everyone involved. I heard Sal Perez was in tears right after it happened. Sounds like it was really bad.
  13. I agree. Just play one of them everyday. I don't see a platoon being as effective over a full season. Hard to stay sharp that way. It also comprises the bench to keep 2 players who both only play 2B.
  14. Melvin just referred to Lyle Overbay as a "Mark Kotsay type player" on 620. Lock it up. He's being added to the roster. Roenicke has to have that grit.
  15. This move makes me scared that Reynolds and Overbay will both be added to the 40-man soon. I want nothing to do with Overbay.
  16. I will be there. Never miss it!
  17. Yeah, I think if Duke can stay reasonably effective he basically can take Gorzelanny's role no problem. So I wouldn't really have an issue getting rid of Gorzelanny.
  18. Wang's chances of making the Opening Day roster are pretty high now with Roenicke saying today that Gorzelanny is basically guaranteed of starting the season on the DL.
  19. This was a necessary move for the Braves with Medlen likely headed for Tommy John, and Beachy and Minor also battling injuries.
  20. 16-12 is about the best I can see, so I'll go with that.
  21. Honestly if Reynolds hit that, that probably means a .300 obp or better. You could do much worse than that hitting 7 or 8 in our lineup Yeah, I think everyone would take that. I'd take 25 HR. That's still better production than they got at 1B last season, and with at least a bit better defense.
  22. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of both Herrera and Bianchi making the roster. If Weeks keeps looking good at the plate all Spring, I could see Scooter getting sent to AAA. That way both of them will be playing everyday, and they give it awhile to see how it plays out. Then they would have a bench of Francisco/Overbay, Herrera, Bianchi, Schafer, Maldonado. Herrera ability to play the OF is pretty big, because he can serve as the 5th OF as well.
  23. I think they'll try to work out a trade with the Pirates so they can send him to to the minors, but if they can't they'll just keep him on the 25-man. That'll likely mean 3 lefties in the pen with Gorzelanny and Smith too, but one could possibly be the long reliever, and they aren't all strictly LOGGY type pitchers.
  24. I think people are ignoring the fact that Francisco altered his batting stance during the offseason after his late season struggles. He raked all the way through winter league, and it has continued in Spring Training. I don't think it's just a fluke. Obviously, he still may be a bit streaky at the plate. I'm just saying that I don't think it's a coincidence that he has looked better at the plate this Spring. However, I do think the Brewers favor defense over offense at 1B. And the reason for that is that the 1B can hit 8th in this lineup. The offense from 1B isn't really a big necessity. That's what's favoring Overbay over Francisco. Ultimately, I think Reynolds gets the majority of playing time, and Overbay will be the backup who plays solid defense and gives veteran leadership. Francisco's defense will ultimately be his downfall. I would like to see him get a chance to at least be a bench bat though. He could provide some needed pop. But having him take the majority of at-bats at 1B just isn't going to happen.
