  1. You know what's funny? Scooter gave himself that nickname because he was a fan of the Muppets and that was his favorite character. http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=25626451&topic_id=8879232&c_id=mlb
  2. About time. I still don't understand why they don't just have a 5th umpire up in the booth to review any close call. That would be a lot easier than anything else they implement.
  3. Haha, classic Greinke. I love it!
  4. That's a very touching story. Incredibly sad, but nice to see Bautista offer his tribute. Cool thing to do. Condolences go out to that family.
  5. I agree, the chances are pretty low. It's definitely in the realm of possibility though if they are actually trying to compete next year, and also succeed in doing so. I don't see that happening, but really all that needs to happen is for him to be the every day 2B. Again, it mostly depends on Scooter, but they could pull shenanigans to keep him at 599 too.
  6. Actually it might. He still only needs to get to 600 PA next season as long as he's healthy at the end of the year. It's not just 1,200 combined between 2013 and 2014 as some have said. It also vests with 600 PA in 2014. Obviously, it'll still be hard for him to get to 600 PA with Scooter in play, but it's possible. If the Brewers plan to "go for it" then that may involve Weeks playing every day if Scooter doesn't show much these last couple months. If that happens, and he stays healthy, then the option will vest. It's not a slam dunk like some people seem to think. Here's the full info from Cot's. They are the best in the business. "2015 option guaranteed if Weeks is healthy at end of 2014 season and has 600 PAs in 2014 or 1,200 PAs in 2013-14 if option does not vest, Milwaukee may void ($1M buyout if Weeks has 400 PAs in 2014)"
  7. If Coshun takes over for BA I'll be extremely upset. Listening to him and Rock every single game would become intolerable.
  8. Added a final update to my original post. 1 spot left, so anyone interested let me know ASAP.
  9. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 43s Source: Lohse was claimed on waivers, but #Brewers did not see a potential match with claiming club and pulled him back. Will not be traded.
  10. My guess is that he'll be non-tendered and then re-sign at a reasonable price. Seems like the best scenario to me. He's still a good arm for the bullpen at the right price.
  11. Looking like it'll be August 19th at 8 PM.
  12. Bump. Still looking for 1, maybe 2, more guys.
  13. Both teams got draft picks for their respective starters. I would've have taken that for Lohse, probably not for Gallardo but definitely for Lohse. The odds of a draft pick that low in the draft isn't anything close to a good deal for the best pitcher on our staff. The odds are against drafting a player who even gets to the majors let alone provide a sub 4 ERA starting pitcher. I may be in the minority here but I think stock piling draft picks in baseball is over rated. It's just too easy to trade spare parts for minor league players to boost the system. No need to trade viable starter just to get another amateur in the system. Now if we could trade for a top five or ten pick it might be a different story. But the picks that can be traded are not anywhere near that level. Yeah, I'd rather get a prospect that already looks like he'l be a good contributor at the major league level someday, rather than a draft pick that may or may not pan out. Those teams likely settled by taking those picks. Most teams would rather get the prospects that is already a known commodity, and I would agree. Those are pretty good picks right after the first round, but they aren't top 10 picks as you said.
  14. I don't blame Melvin for this. I blame Mark A. He seems like an owner who wants to try to compete every year. Heck, he's even flat out said that. The Lohse signing that he engineered is one sign, and not allowing certain moves to happen at the deadline is another. There's still the offseason, where some trades could happen, but it's starting to look like they'll try to compete again.
  15. Based on what? The Brewers won't pay that and neither will any other team. So Axford will sign for less. Yeah, Axford will be a good candidate to just settle and not go to arbitration. The Brewers would threaten a non-tender to get him to lower his price. He'll still likely be pretty overpaid for his role though.
  16. Yeah, this deadline will be disappointing much like I predicted. Not being willing to trade Aoki is incredibly stupid. Sounds like the bids on Lohse and Gallardo just aren't good enough, which is fine. They can wait until the offseason to trade one or both of them. Not being willing to trade Aoki is so dumb though, and not getting offers on the relievers is discouraging.
  17. Not to nitpick, a pet peeve of mine. Saying teams are buying 2.5years of Lohse when there's less than 40% of games left to be played. In truth it's 2.33 seasons of Lohse plus what Postseason games that may be pitched by him...if any. We're just about down to the final 1/3rd of the season remaining. The halfway mark of the season was July 1st. You're not the only one to say 2.5/1.5 seasons for a player. I've said it but have at least gone down to .4 and will remark .33 from here on out since that is where it stands July 31st. Fair enough. That doesn't really change the point I was trying to make though, so it doesn't really matter. And as you said, any team trading for him will likely be in the postseason too, so it ends up being about .4 with a good run instead of .5.
  18. I don't think it's a bad sign. All of the teams interested in a starter are waiting out the Peavy situation. I think if guys like Norris or Lohse go, it'll be to a team that lost out on Peavy and gets desperate on deadline day when they see that no one else is out there. One more start would only matter if Lohse was a rental, and he's not. Teams are buying 2.5 years of Lohse, not just the rest of this season.
  19. Lucroy is definitely turning into a great player. I think he's a future all-star. Definitely an argument that he could be Top 3 in the NL along with Posey and Molina. It's definitely exciting to have a great catcher for once. I would agree that he's looking like one of the best catchers the Brewers have ever had. It's definitely exciting.
  20. Beane would trade for Lohse for the playoff run and then flip him in the offseason or next deadline. That's what he does. He wouldn't really be looking at him as a 2.5 year acquisition when trading for him. It would be a good match in my opinion.
  21. That's pretty cool. Maybe others with ideas should consider that too. What'd he say?
  22. That's not far-fetched in my opinion. There very well could be something to that. I think the WBC for sure had an impact. I think he'll come back out throwing better next year with all of this behind him, and a normal preparation for the season. I don't see him even ending up with much trade value this offseason. I think it's almost gotten to the point where they'll just have to let it play out until next year's deadline to see where he's at. I don't see him pitching well enough the rest of this year to gain his trade value back.
  23. Here's this from MLB Trade Rumors. "The Braves are more focused on front-line starting pitchers such as Jake Peavy and Ervin Santana than they are on Norris, writes Mark Bowman of MLB.com. Peavy's 118-pitch outing yesterday, which was scouted by the Braves, helped to quell some of the hesitation surrounding his health, Bowman adds. The Braves aren't interested in Yovani Gallardo, according to Bowman, but they may contact the Brewers regarding Kyle Lohse's availability."
