  1. Exactly. I definitely agree with this. Melvin should, and will, hold firm on his asking price. If he doesn't get it from a desperate team before the deadline, there's a better chance of him getting it in the offseason.
  2. Cool, I'm going to PM all of you guys for some info just so I have everyone down that's interested. Then when I get to the amount I want I'll kind of do a poll type thing to figure out fees, rules, etc.
  3. Thought this was interesting from Heyman's chat today. So, do the Brewers clean house? Out with Axford, Henderson, Gonzalez? Ramirez, Aoki, etc... 12:15 They might be stuck with Ramirez at this point. He's owed $20M (!) next season ($16M salary plus $4M buyout of his 2015 option) and is hurt, losing power. All the bullpen guys should go, and I think Aoki as well. He's so cheap and productive, they could get a ton. If the right offer doesn't come along, then keep him. No big deal.
  4. Just got this from Heyman in his chat. Is there any interest in Kyle Lohse? He'd be a great pickup for teams in need of a good starting pitcher. He's controlled for 2 more years too. Why has there not been any reported interest in him? 12:27 I think the price is too high. He makes a lot of money and the Brewers supposedly want something back on par with the first round pick they gave up to get him. If the price drops, teams will be interested. Right now? Meh.
  5. Yeah, I'm leaning towards Yahoo. I've found I like it a lot better. And I haven't decided on fees. Was thinking about finding enough interested people and then figuring out based on what everyone wants to do. Didn't wanna limit interest by just throwing something out there. With all dedicated players, I'm sure something good could be worked out.
  6. Haha, that's a good point. I'll change it to dedicated. That's what I was going for.
  7. Lohse and Gonzalez to Atlanta would seem like a good fit.
  8. UPDATE #2: Hey guys, I'm starting up a competitive fantasy football league. It'll be a 12 team league. We're doing an auction draft on Yahoo! Re-draft in the first year, with the idea of transitioning to a keeper league next year or in the future. Just need to make sure everyone stays interested in engaged first. This will be a league that I'd like to keep together every year, which is why I'm looking for competitive, dedicated players. Should be a blast! It's going to be a .5 PPR. 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 FLEX, 1 TE, 1 D/ST, 1 K. 6 or 7 bench spots. The buy-in is $25 and done on League Safe. I currently have just 1 spot available, so let me know if you're interested. Draft is on August 19 at 9 PM. I have a great group of guys together already, so it should be a lot of fun! Any other questions, just let me know.
  9. The Braves are now interested in Norris, so have to think they'd have interest in Lohse also. It's been surprising that things have been quiet on the Lohse front. Lots of teams obviously need a starter. Gotta think some team may make a serious offer for him after Peavy and Norris are off the market. There are more teams that need a pitcher out there than there are pitchers available.
  10. The Braves are now interested in Bud Norris according to Jon Morosi. Gotta think all these teams in on Norris would have interest in Lohse. Unless the price is ridiculous.
  11. I love the tailgate party idea. That sounds like a lot of fun. You should forward that over to someone with the Brewers. Sounds like something they'd agree to do for sure.
  12. I hope Wooten will get some WOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTT chants much like the Luc chants. That would be sweet. He deserves his shot too. I'm glad he's finally getting a look.
  13. It would make sense to wait until the offseason to trade Gallardo and/or Lohse. They'll be cheaper than most pitchers available on the market, and are probably better than most available pitchers too. More teams will be interested, because it'll be open to all teams and not just buyers. It won't be the end of the world if neither get moved at the deadline. Melvin is being smart by holding out for the deal he wants. I don't think there will be any pitchers of a similar talent level available for the reasonable contracts of 2 years $22M and 2 years $24M this offseason.
  14. This is why he should be traded now, because he may actually end up being overpaid and aging over the next 2 years. Gotta sell high if possible. Problem is that suitors are needed, and there's been no indication of that yet.
  15. Weeks seems like a good candidate for a change of scenery trade. Much like the Brewers did with the Hardy for Gomez deal. Obviously Weeks is older, so he wouldn't bring back someone like Gomez. But a trade like that is still a possibility with a team that needs a 2B and has their own player that could use a change of scenery. The only hindrance may be his contract, but I think that could be worked out. The only issue is whether or not Scooter can step in and be at least a semi-productive player in his place.
  16. Pretty sure it's known as a hitter's league actually.
  17. Yeah, that's the main thing. It's all about how certain teams value him. As you said, some teams may see him slotting into their #3 spot, or maybe even higher depending on who's interested. What some scouts have said may not be the universal opinion. Just need one team to value him enough to make a good offer. Some teams will be desperate for a good starter, so it could just be a matter of whether or not they are desperate enough to make the kind of offer Melvin wants. Look at the D'Backs for instance. They have Corbin and Miley pitching well, but behind them they have a struggling Kennedy and two young starters in Delgado and Skaggs who they may not trust in a pennant race. They are a team that could really value someone with experience like Gallardo. They've had previous interest, so we shall see I guess.
  18. Yes, I agree. Seems like it was only from July on in 2011, and to heal from injury. He had performed well his entire career, so I have no reason to believe that he won't continue to do so.
  19. I don't know if this has been said, but I saw that MLB.com already has him as the Brewers #3 prospect.
  20. This new development doesn't surprise me. As I've said before, I believed all along that Braun was just taking the testosterone to recover from injury. With the lingering calf injury, and other injuries he had during 2011, it made sense that that's what he was doing. It's still very stupid for someone in his position to risk it, but other guys have gotten a free pass who have admitted to using for recovery purposes. Andy Pettitte would be the main example of that. If Braun had owned up to it from the get go instead of lying, he would've gotten off easier. I can see why he worked to get out of the original suspension though. If he had avoided all the hardcore denial though, and then laid this all out himself after this current suspension, I think more people would accept it. At least that's how I feel about it. I think he still needs to come out and corroborate this himself, and explain it. Will make it easier for fans to forgive him and get past it.
  21. In my opinion, the White Sox are stupid for turning down Martinez and the Cardinals are stupid for offering Martinez. I could see trading Martinez in the right deal, but trading him for Ramirez would be terrible.
  22. Mike Gonzalez to WAS on July 28
  23. The Yankees are definitely the perfect trade partner for Ramirez. They will definitely be desperate after A-Rod gets suspended. Heck, they would be desperate even if he wasn't getting suspended. They need bats. I could definitely see them trading for him in August. They have even be desperate enough to trade for him before July 31 if he does happen to return before then.
