  1. Yeah, it's like his speed completely vanished over the last few years. Another reason to give him some time at 1B.
  2. The only way Weeks won't be hitting leadoff is if Braun is out, in which case he'll hit 3rd. That situation isn't any better. Actually, with Braun out, it's far worse. I know, but a guy can hope. I would like to see him in the two hole with Aoki leading off, but I know that won't happen. It will be be the same old crap, and more than likely the same old results. Hope I am wrong. Well, got your wish, but unfortunately Roenicke still screwed it up. Gomez leading off? Should be Aoki against Lincecum. And of course Morgan is also in there over Aoki. Makes no sense. I don't mind the rest as much though. Rickie in the 2 hole is good. Should've been this... LF Aoki 2B Weeks RF Hart 3B Ramirez C Lucroy SS Gonzalez 1B Ishikawa CF Gomez P Greinke

  4. Hart could start pretty much everyday at 1B, but still get some starts in RF as well. That way all of the pressure isn't on Aoki, and the platoon can stay in CF. Just because Hart moves to 1B for the majority of the time for the rest of this season doesn't mean he has to be the long-term answer there, or stay there next season. He just seems like the best solution for the remainder of the season there. Gamel can be plugged back in there next season, and Hart can go back to RF. He'll still be there as a backup plan if Gamel struggles coming off his injury or otherwise.
  5. My guess is that Laurinaitis and whoever else helps him will "take out" Cena at Over the Limit, and then he'll disappear for awhile. Just so that JL is the one who gets it done. Maybe not though, we'll see.
  6. I agree in this situation. Ishikawa and Conrad both have no business being starters at 1B in the major leagues. They should just make Hart the everyday 1B, Aoki the everyday RF, and move on. Ishikawa can stay as the backup 1B, Conrad can backup 2B and 3B, Izturis can backup SS, and Morgan can continue some type of platoon with Gomez in CF and backup RF. Maybe they decide they want an extra OF instead of carrying Ishikawa or Conrad, so they call-up Gindl to get some PT in RF. Either way, problem solved. That's what I would do.
  7. Sad to see a guy with so much talent fall so far. He had tons of promise, but that quickly vanished with the issues he's had. I have a feeling he'll never pitch again, but I hope he can get his life back to normal. Best wishes to him.
  8. With the way he's been pitching, he's no upgrade at all over David Robertson or whoever else they could use to close. In fact, I'd rather have Robertson, Soriano, Logan, or Wade over K-Rod right now. Especially with his $8 million price tag. Now if K-Rod picks it up a little by the deadline, and a team needs a closer, that's another story. The Yankees don't seem like a team that'll have that need, or see K-Rod as an upgrade.
  9. He'll be the everyday 1B for about a week. Then Hart will start getting playing time there, because Ishikawa will be playing horribly.
  10. He's honestly about the only longtime Yankee from my lifetime I've ever really liked. And that's probably just because of how insanely good he's been for so long while not appearing to be a d-bag. Pretty awful way to (presumably) end a fantastic career. Yeah, I'd agree. He's the only Yankee that's hard to hate, because he's such a good guy. Maybe it took him possibly having his career ended by injury for people to come out and admit they like the guy. I don't know.
  11. It'll be very sad if Rivera's career ends this way. I could care less about how it affects the Yankees, but as a big baseball fan it's tough to see. It's bad for baseball in general. Terrible way to go out. And even if he comes back, there's always the possibility he could go out on a bad note if he's not the same. Best closer of all-time might be gone for good. And of course it happened while shagging balls in the OF during BP, and not during a game. Freak occurrence. Definitely care a lot way, way less about this than Gamel's ACL tear though. Although it sucks for any athlete to go through this type of injury. Apparently, this has become national news though. Everyone all over twitter and everywhere else is commenting on it. It's pretty crazy. Didn't know people liked Rivera that much universally.
  12. I'd be ok with this plan for most of the games. Although I wouldn't mind Aoki against LHP sometimes. And Ishikawa would likely play over Morgan sometimes too, with Aoki in CF, and Hart in RF.
  13. I knew he was the one coming up, but still glad to see it. I wish he would've made the roster over Ishikawa. The best part about this is that Izturis will no longer be our backup at 2B and 3B. And we now have an actual RH pinch-hitting option off the bench. He'll probably outplay Ishikawa right away. I'm guessing he'll just get some starts against LHP at 1B for now, until Hart can take over those duties.
  14. He's not being called up to be the 1B. Yes, he may play there some. But really he was just the best option to add to the bench. So I don't think the "to play 1B" should be used. At most, he'll just platoon with Ishikawa for now until Hart can start taking those starts at 1B. I think Conrad's real value will be backing up 2B and 3B, and as a RH pinch-hitter.
  15. I definitely agree with you on that. Hard to find many successful relief pitchers that we've developed in recent memory. Our most successful guys have been random waiver claims like Derrick Turnbow and Dan Kolb. Other than that we seem to get by with veterans. Not something that we can keep doing. It's becoming very evident this season. That's for sure. The closest guy to making an impact is Brandon Kintzler, and we didn't draft him either. Santo Manzanillo is another guy who could pan out for us. But still, not enough guys have been successfully developed. We haven't done well with SP either. Yes, we have a bunch of promising guys right now, but it's no guarantee they'll pan out either. Gallardo is the only successful one right now.
  16. A RP that we didn't develop though, we kind of lucked into Axford. It is just hard to believe that a team can be this bad at it. How did we not develop Axford? We basically took him from Step 1 as he tried to revive his career. He came up all the way from High A Brevard County. We clearly developed him through the minors. We obviously didn't draft him and start with him from the beginning, but we definitely developed him all the way from the bottom to the top. He was basically back to square 1 when we signed him.
  17. It's not dumb. I'd have to think he'd be one of the main trade targets if they go that route down the road. I don't see that being an option until around the deadline though. Seems like it would be hard to make a trade like that this early in the season. Plus, we'll probably exhaust some internal options before that. His $18.5 million salary doesn't help either, but it's possibly we could get them to eat a good chunk of that. The power he provides would be nice to have in the lineup.
  18. It's not an acknowledgement of moving beyond Gamel. There's no way that's the case. They won't give up on him just because he got hurt. Green doesn't have the raw power to be a long-term answer at 1B. Basically, it's just Melvin wanting his best hitter in AAA to learn a position where he can actually be used in the Majors this season. No reason to waste him in AAA if there's somewhere he could end up playing regularly this season. However, as I said he doesn't project well offensively as a 1B. He has the ability to hit some HRs as he showed at AAA last year, but he'd obviously look better long-term over at 3B. I don't really see him as a big HR hitter in the majors. Maybe around 10 a year. I still think he's behind Hart as far as options at 1B, and possibly behind looking at adding someone like Derrek Lee as well. Mainly because it would be nice to keep some sure-fire power at that position. Still, Green seems like a good option just for the rest of this year if a few other things don't work out. Personally, I'd try Hart first and then Green if that isn't working. A guy like Lee wouldn't be bad, but might not be necessary. I doubt a trade will be an option until closer to the deadline.
  19. Well this is fantastic, down by 3 to a terrible team that also has Suppan on the mound.
  20. I'm on board with this plan. Sucks for Gamel that he got hurt, and he'll be missed a lot. But this is definitely the best plan in my opinion. Won't replace Gamel, but it's a lot better than Ishikawa playing a lot.
  21. Right now, the hope just has to be that it's not a season-ending injury like an ACL tear. It still might be some type of tear or something that requires minor surgery, but hopefully he'd only miss a few months tops then. That might be best case at this point. I'd be shocked if it was just something minor now. Either way, I'm just hoping for the best. Feel very bad for Gamel.
  22. We better beat the crap out of Suppan. Anything less is unacceptable.
  23. This reminds me so much of Hoffman's demise a couple years ago. Backend relievers lose it really quick. The really scary part is our lack of alternatives in the setup role. Not sure I'd trust Veras either.
