  1. Melvin seemed pretty adamant about not trading a starting pitcher, so if we do add Ramirez and either Rollins or Furcal, I would guess they will just add on to the payroll. I just don't see that happening. Never know though. If they were willing to spend on Prince, maybe they'll spend to fill spots at two areas instead. Can't rule anything out.
  2. a) you have no idea how hard they are trying to keep Prince b) it's a lot different than the Molitor situation I agree with both points. I think the nail will go in the coffin though at the winter meetings, once some team makes Prince an offer out of our price range.
  3. ....and Yuni. Don't remind me http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gifDon't worry, there's always Alex Gonzalez to fall back on. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  4. As would I. Those hats are sweet. I might get his jersey too.
  5. I think it's gonna be either Ramirez or Rollins, and that'll be it. If it's Ramirez, someone like Gonzalez will be signed to man SS.
  6. Well, I guess Melvin can cancel that meeting with with Reyes' agent.
  7. Yep, this really spells out how stupid it would be to sign Fielder for $25MM/year. Can fill 2 needs instead.
  8. One or the other seems more and more likely, but not both. That'll be out of our price range.
  9. I'd like to see Fielder go to Toronto. I'm a big fan, so I'd probably back Toronto as my AL team then. Anywhere in the AL is preferable to me. I just don't want to play against him often, and have him burn us.
  10. Exactly, signing A-Ram would likely mean we'll target a defensive SS, and Gonzalez would fit that bill. This would be a pretty solid lineup. Hart - RFMorgan - CFBraun - LFRamirez - 3BWeeks - 2BGamel - 1BGonzalez - SSLucroy - C
  11. I think it could be a much longer rebuild then people realize. That farm system is not good. They dont have young starting pitching outside of Garza. Their relief pitching is a struggle with Marmol and others. They need a new 1B, 3b, RF, LF and probably CF since Byrd probably doesnt have a ton left. Going forward they are a plus as SS with Castro. They are decent at catcher with Soto and 2B with Barney. But outside of that what do they have at our near the MLB level? Back to Ramirez I would love him for 2 years. Vastly upgrades our offense and defense at 3B. Shouldn't have to be a super long-term deal. Gives us a solid top of the lineup. Find a SS who can field and our starting pitchers would be loving life Oh, I definitely agree. I was trying to make the point that they are in a rebuild before. I just don't think they'll be in full rebuild mode for years to come. I just think they'll be a little more conservative and Epstein will try to fix things here in the next few years to set himself up to make some big splashes in the future.
  12. It's not gonna be a long rebuild, but in the short-term I just don't see them throwing $200 million at Pujols or Fielder. There's always the possibility, but I just don't see it happening.
  13. First time I've heard anyone call Prince/Cubs a smokescreen - and a smokescreen for what? Pujols, they probably just kicked the tires on, but considering they have a new GM (who has a history of overpaying), a need at 1B, Svuem as manager....... oh, and let's not forget that thing Prince wants, they have $$$. I'd say things stack up pretty well for them - plus, if the brewers sign Aram, it takes another prince suitor off the market. The Cubs are just trying to make their fans and the rest of the league think they are players for Pujols and Fielder, when really I don't think they are poised to sign either of them. I think they will go into more of a rebuilding mode, and not send their payroll through the roof right now. Big contracts are what caused them to fail and get to the point they are at right now. Sure they will always be mentioned when it comes to big time free agents, but I don't see them investing in one this year. I honestly believe the chances are very low that they get Fielder. I think most teams realize that he may be a long-term risk, especially in the NL. I think he'll sign with an AL team when it's all said and done.
  14. Ehhh, it'll be the opposite soon with Prince. I highly doubt it. Pretty much everyone believes that the reports of the Cubs being interested in Prince and Pujols are just a smokescreen. Prince will end up somewhere else.
  15. REAL Cubs fans are ok with ARam leaving, even to the Brewers, it is the meatheads Cub fans that would be pissed. Those are the fans that don't understand crap about baseball. I find it pretty hard to believe that it wouldn't kill all Cubs fans to see Ramirez hitting home runs against them in a Brewers uniform.
  16. This is a really good point, and it wouldn't surprise me if this is actually Melvin's thinking. It does make a lot of sense. I think Hairston will bolt to a different team though for more money, and a bigger role. Such as San Francisco.
  17. Nope, he said it's pretty likely that he'll never come back. And I doubt he ever will. It's gonna be Jericho, possibly Taker, or a fallback option if those don't work out.
  18. I searched Aramis Ramirez Brewers on twitter, and it was hilarious to see that the majority of the tweets were Cubs fans pissed off that he is interested in coming to Milwaukee. Made me laugh. That would just be the icing on the cake.
  19. No, Mysterio may not even make it back until after Wrestlemania. No way he'd be back in January. It's Jericho unless negotiation fall through.
  20. http://www.rotoworld.com/...rez-have-mutual-interest Also mentioned here. Melvin says Ramirez also has interest in Milwaukee. Seems like the possibility is becoming more and more real. It makes a lot of sense since Ramirez prefers to keep his family in Chicago, and that would be pretty easy if he plays in Milwaukee. Personally, I'd love to sign Ramirez. He'd look great behind Braun in the lineup. He could be a force hitting in Miller Park. Then we can platoon McGehee and Gamel at 1B also. And if they don't work out at 1B, then we can move Ramirez to 1B and go with Green at 3B.
  21. I just don't think it's wise to trade assets for any 1B that isn't a very clear upgrade over Gamel. I'd rather just give Gamel a shot first than trade for someone unproven.
  22. I still find it unbelievable that Sheets went 12-14 in '04. Imagine what his record would've been with the current offense. He would've easily won 20 games and the Cy Young.
  23. I sincerely hope its Jericho/Punk at Wrestlemania. I would have to assume that's the plan. That feud would be pure gold. I don't wanna get my hopes up though, and set myself up to be disappointed if it doesn't happen.
  24. I really don't see Smoak as a better option than Gamel at this point.
  25. That's actually a pretty bad trade in my opinion. If we got Paul, then yes. But Rondo? No.
