First time I've heard anyone call Prince/Cubs a smokescreen - and a smokescreen for what? Pujols, they probably just kicked the tires on, but considering they have a new GM (who has a history of overpaying), a need at 1B, Svuem as manager....... oh, and let's not forget that thing Prince wants, they have $$$. I'd say things stack up pretty well for them - plus, if the brewers sign Aram, it takes another prince suitor off the market. The Cubs are just trying to make their fans and the rest of the league think they are players for Pujols and Fielder, when really I don't think they are poised to sign either of them. I think they will go into more of a rebuilding mode, and not send their payroll through the roof right now. Big contracts are what caused them to fail and get to the point they are at right now. Sure they will always be mentioned when it comes to big time free agents, but I don't see them investing in one this year. I honestly believe the chances are very low that they get Fielder. I think most teams realize that he may be a long-term risk, especially in the NL. I think he'll sign with an AL team when it's all said and done.
