  1. I'd like to see them continue to build defense. Can never have too many edge players.
  2. It does not. I don't think baseball will evaporate, but it is not the same animal that football is. The NFL is in this country's DNA.
  3. I am seriously probably out if this drags on for 1/3 of the season. I've already decided I am done as a SSH. I'm just sick of doing this every 3 years, and I'm already dreading whatever stupid plan the Brewers execute for refunds for missed games. I just want my money back for the whole season, today. I'm out.
  4. You have to say he's the best by default due to all the winning even though I think it is a bit myopic. In reality for me he is more like what happens when you get a top 15, durable QB and combine it with the best coach of all time and a GM/organization that was incredibly efficient and shrewd. Each needed the other but the combination was unstoppable. And I don't know what the special sauce was but he clearly had a knack for galvanizing a team. Once you have 7 championships it gets hard to make a case for anyone. But it's always going to be a joke how people use them to elevate players. Prior to this year people thought Stafford was a turnover-prone, good but not great QB. He plays a decent Super Bowl in which his defense surrenders very few points, and suddenly he's a Canton shoe-in and clutch and daring and all this other nonsense. And I'll never understand why Brees get this pass that Rodgers doesn't. The only difference between the two is that Brees wasn't as good and had a bunch of seasons where the Saints couldn't make the playoffs. Rodgers elevated some .500 teams and got them within earshot of the Super Bowl, and his legacy is actually worse for it. Where most of the time he was elevating mediocre teams, the hindsight judgement is going to be that he "couldn't seal the deal." He'd have been better off missing the playoffs 5 times, honestly.
  5. The Rodgers rollercoaster. He's 100% gone, he's 100% back, we lose, he's 90% gone, now he's 100% back. Lol.
  6. I've seen that AFC argument a bunch of times and I don't know if I really buy it. For one, playing in the NFC hasn't done Rodgers any favors, and realistically, the odds of having to play a bunch of those guys in the same season isn't that great. Burrow just faced Carr and Tannehill and was in the AFCCG. KC is probably going to be good most of the time, but the Chargers still have plenty of work to do and I'm not sure either one is as good as Denver defense + Rodgers + those WRs. Is it tougher than the Bears/Lions/Vikings? Yeah, but I think Rodgers needs to focus on the best situation as far as the roster he is on and not worry too much about all that peripheral stuff. The Rams entire division nearly made the playoffs...just think that in the end, the cream rises and I'm not sure the interdivision/conference stuff matters too much.
  7. When you have two worthy MVP candidates, one on offense and one on defense, ask yourself which side of the ball won the game. It was clearly Donald and the defense. They absolutely dominated that side of the ball, and in the biggest moments as well. I mean, at halftime, they were talking about Donald had 1 pressure on 20 passing snaps. It was only after the little sideline shove that he got going. Plus...quite literally, the Rams offense won the game on the final possession. And Kupp running an end around on 4th down - one where he had to make a guy miss behind the line of scrimmage - kept that drive going. If Donald had won it, that'd be fine. In this thread I even suggested he could win it in the 3rd quarter. But Kupp was perfectly deserving. Not this egregious slam drunk you are suggesting.
  8. Donald would have been a worthy pick but I think Kupp was the correct call. Nearly 100-yd game, 2 TDs, basically did the winning drive himself and converted a huge 4th down on the ground. A bit much has been made of Stafford not playing well. He wasn't MVP, but one INT bounced off a WR and the other was an arm punt on 3rd and 14.
  9. Generally I agree with the last two posts but all it really takes for tailspin is the wrong individual to make a power grab and succeed at doing so. I don't think losing him should be insurmountable, but we also shouldn't act like it's not a big deal.
  10. I really wish they had just not signed Bhaktiari, but if they didn't, Rodgers is probably already set on playing somewhere else.
  11. I don't know, I think they have the format just right with the WC play-in. It's just enough where several teams are usually battling to get that game and not so many that trash teams are qualifying. September has definitely been more fun since it was added.
  12. Totally agree. I would pay $14.99/mo just for the Brewers.
  13. Maybe greater than zero but I don't see it. Decent stats + 3 Super Bowls and 2 rings, and for one of the league's most storied franchises. I think he gets in ASAP. I think he's the most overrated QB of the last 20 years, but I think he does it.
  14. I'm personally not at all convinced Brady isn't showing up to somebody's camp in August.
  15. This is still the top for me as well, with this season's loss to SF right behind it. The stakes were just too high to fail as they did so I can't see another loss ever topping that one, especially in the fashion they did so. This year had more of "We'd win this game 99/100 times" feel to it. There were paths you could see for SF, but I don't think any of them involved Deebo having 80 all-purpose yards or Kittle having 60. They did absolutely nothing on offense and beat Aaron Rodgers. It just can't happen that way. Homer touched on this but in 2010 they were really good. They didn't trail by more than 7 all season. Problem was that their offense, actually, was pretty bad in the first half of the season. There were back-to-back OT losses early on and a couple other heartbreakers (ATL, NE) and a loss to the Lions that Rodgers missed most of. They had a LOT of bad breaks but really were a 12-13-win if you read between the lines. By the end of the season nobody really wanted to play them, part of the reason the Bears had clinched the division but tried their best to keep them out of the playoffs in Week 17.
  16. On offense, sure. On defense, no, I think they were vastly better, particularly up front. 22 y/o JPP, Osi, Tuck, and Chris Canty on the same front is just ridiculous. Kiwanuka was a 1st round pick. The Packers had gotten through the year on forcing turnovers but they were really a sieve in terms of yardage. The blueprint for beating them was pretty clear, if you had a pass rush from a base defense and didn't turn the ball over you had a chance. For a 15-1 team, they played a good amount of close games. Should they have won? Yeah I guess. But that loss doesn't look so ridiculous when the Giants went on to do the same thing two more times including against BB's Patriots.
  17. I am not so sure that 2011 Giants team was all that inferior. All the Packers did that year was score a bunch of points, they were embarrassing defensively and gave up massive yards all year. They needed a FG as time expired to beat the Giants just a few weeks earlier. The Giants also had a bunch of injuries and only got their font 7 healthy at the tail end of the season. There WERE folks lamenting that they were going to be a match-up problem for the Packers. I had trepidations about that Packers team. They won a lot of sloppy high-scoring games all year. You are always in jeopardy when so heavily dependent on one side of the game. As Peavey said, I only really bemoan 2014 and this season. 2014 they obviously should have beaten Seattle, and this year, man, not even getting past a basically .500 team that lost the NFCCG. Holding that team without an offensive TD. That is just ineptitude. One of the worst parts of that SF loss IMO is it gave a lot of credibility to a narrative that previously was just a dumb hot take. "Rodgers can't do it" and "they can't close" when a) they were usually expected to lose the games they lost and b) Rodgers lost a bunch of them while playing great and failing to score 40 points. This year nothing like that happened; they just blew it against a crappy team.
  18. What would GB following that even look like? GB was pretty much all in this season. It's pretty much inconceivable they return with as good a roster. You don't really have to be as good as they were to win a championship, but I'm not sure how the Packers go "all in".
  19. Man...I will never believe the Rams would have beaten the Packers. Too bad they couldn't even force that game.
  20. So did everyone. Nobody cares about that Lakers/Dodgers title. It's kind of lovely that with all that talent and spending the Dodgers have mustered one clown show championship.
  21. That defensive hold was ticky tack, but it wasn't like there wasn't contact, and at the very least was nowhere near as bad as that missed facemask on Cincy's touchdown.
  22. Such a disappointment for Cincinnati, really feels like they should have won that game. And I still can't help but think that the Packers really blew an opportunity this year.
  23. I think Kupp if they win based on the 4th down conversion + ~100 yard game. Donald has 2 sacks so if he did something on the next drive he's a possibility.
  24. Not sure why the Rams wanted to squeeze that play in. Now it's first and goal and Cincinnati has all 3 timeouts. They are assured of getting the ball back with plenty of time. You can't get too cute down by 4 but I for sure would have let that last play run down to the warning.
  25. The issue I have with this is that Patrick Willis was a HOF finalist this year largely based on the narrative, probably correctly, that he played at a high level for 7 seasons and injury robbed us of a full-length HOF career for him. Sharpe is literally the same story. 7 HOF caliber seasons, but that HOF-trajectory career cut short by injury. If he's simply able to have a typical 10-12 year career as most are able to, I have little doubt he's talked about in the same breath with Rice, Moss, and Cris Carter. Or at a MINIMUM Andre Reed and Art Monk. Sharpe had a very poor relationship with the media. He was incredibly shy and rarely spoke to them at all.
