  1. You don't think at least half the NFL coaches have used certain very well known derogatory terms in the last 10 or 15 years that would get most people fired immediately in 2021? As someone whose first job out of college involved covering the Tennessee Titans (in 2009) I will just agree to disagree. I also don't know the exact timeline of this incident, just that the initial reports were from a time period where Gruden was not employed by either the NFL or the Raiders. I am assuming that changed as more emails came out, which does change things a bit. However if the Raiders looked like world beaters and weren't putting up 9 points on the Bears, something tells me we'd be hearing about his desire to change and sensitivity training.
  2. My point is this: Raiders are 5-0 and beating the doors off people. Think he gets fired? I don't, not for a second.
  3. My thoughts exactly. IMO with a loss today, this team is 'fart in the wind' fodder. A less exciting finish than 2008, a team that had the distinction of making us respectable again. We've had 3 good teams in the past 4 years; it's totally natural to feel how we do at this point. It's time to get over the hump. Winning divisions isn't satisfying anymore. I'm too young for '82, I grew up on ONLY losing and I still feel this way.
  4. No. Normal, upstanding people don't communicate the things that Gruden did. Yes they do, lol. What are we trying to pull here. Maybe you or I don't, but an email calling some professional connection a douche or a P is pretty standard fodder for lots and lots of people when they think they are communicating with a friend. I'm not gonna die on a hill for Jon Gruden's job, but I'm guessing if we combed through all 32 coaches emails from the past decade, 26 or so would be resigning tomorrow. He can go; the world is no worse, Raiders likely better off, but you won't get me to believe for a second that this was anything more than a witch hunt and convenient firing and nothing to do with what he actually did.
  5. They fired him because the Raiders owe him $60 million and realize how silly the contract was + mediocre results at best. Nobody cares about those emails and the guy has tons of people from certain groups he supposedly hates vouching for his character. Including both African Americans doing the telecast of SNF, one of whom worked with him for a decade. He's at worst a meathead that has no filter. Just another dumb witch hunt the Raiders took advantage of to get out of a bad decision. Now when they pursue Aaron Rodgers they can let him pick his own coach.
  6. LOL. Fired over that 2/10 on the offensive scale email from TEN years ago. I'll take convenient forced resignations for $500, Alex.
  7. I don't really get why that's the right call, but OK I guess? I don't think it's insane to leave him for Game 5 or anything, but we are the brink of death here. If we're down 2-0 in the 1st tomorrow I'll probably be wishing Burnes had started.
  8. I mean, I think it was a dumb call on CC's part, but we scored 0, so, who really cares? If we go down tomorrow, it was the weakness on the team showing up at a very bad time more than any decision.
  9. If the Bucks were 5 PJ Tucker clones that all avg. 2 ppg, I might find this comparison valid.
  10. I think I'm done until Game 5. I can't watch this team hit in a game where best possible outcome is forcing another elimination game. Just putrid. We are one swing from 0 runs in 27 innings.
  11. Scroll back to before we even failed to score. This was my stance then. I said I absolutely hate this move at the commercial. This win probability stuff is great, I refer to it all the time, but there are scenarios in which it is stupid and when your borderline Cy Young candidate SP is throwing a gem and in the FIFTH inning, I leave him in the game. Sorry, it's that simple for me. And the reason I'm acting like it wasn't a tough call, is because it was not a tough call at all for me. It's a tough call in the 7th inning. Sure. 100% agree. Not less than half-way through a game. Call me whatever oriented you'd like.
  12. They don't have the means to have the high-octane offense and the pitching staff unless they get a very fast, lucky streak of drafting. The plan was defense and it worked; if they'd happened to have one of their hot offensive streaks they were probably good enough to do real damage. Everyone knew this type of 2 or 3 run week was possible in the NLDS. We all just prayed it didn't break that way...probably due to not make an LCS anyway.
  13. Who said he was? He's the biggest one. And his contract prevents solving other ones.
  14. Keeping him in gets you, at best a chance to remain in a 50-50 game after 5. What's the win probability after the next guy in immediately gives up a 3 run bomb? Can't believe there's a single person defending that move. I really can't. The Braves were not into the 5th inning. The 5th.
  15. Exactly how I felt the second he was yanked. I totally get that move in the 7th or later even with a good pitch count. After ATL has batted 4 frames? No, it's ridiculous. He's less than half way through the game! He got too cute and was burned. This offense is making it look pretty irrelevant though. And I agree with the other poster who said "you knew this was coming for a month." I think a lot of us did, but talked ourselves into the "their foot's off the gas" thing. I know the games were meaningless, but there was trouble in the air watching this team for the final few weeks.
  16. I don't think anyone would blame Counsell if Peralta gave up a 3-run homer in the 5th. He was dealing. Yes a few would, but that bringing him back out was far more understandable than what he did, imo.
  17. I liked the deal. Doesn't change the fact though. It is looking horrific for the team right now. He's worse than I think any nightmare scenario could have imagined.
  18. It's called monday morning quarterbacking. If Vogel slaps one down the line and we score 2, and Houser pitches effectively...then CC is a genius. That outcome was probably more likely than the outcome that happened. That'd be like, why didn't Kershaw just walk Woodruff in the playoffs instead of pitching to him and allowing a hr. CC played the odds and lost, but his decision-making was correct in this case. There were like 6 posts immediately calling the decision to pull him stupid before it even wen poorly. It was stupid. There is always a decision to be made and you can always call something Monday morning QB-ing. I am pretty sure the vast majority of people leave Freddy in. Sometimes the majority is the majority for a reason. Freddy was on. Of course, again, if we score 0, who cares.
  19. I'm on board with our players and manager both being morons if that helps.
  20. Yelich went 1-3 with a BB on Sunday. The team had 6 hits total. He wasn't the problem. There's no way around the reality that Yelich is a major problem on this team as constructed and as it looks now, will continue to be one. We have a bad slap singles hitter making 30 million a year. If he had regressed to Marlins level, we'd probably be OK and at least a semi-watchable offense.
  21. At least now we know the ceiling on having a group of stud SP and a bunch of guys that can't hit. If we didn't have Jackie Yelich Jr. signed for 8 years it might have been enough.
  22. It's not random. Our rag tag scrubs can't hit and they have 30+ bomb guys up and down the line. They hit a few bombs and we rejoice when we get a single. Aces are great but can't win with literally 0 runs.
  23. I'll restate though, if score 0, I guess Counsell doesn't make any difference. You can't score 2 runs in 3 games. Pathetic showing at the worst possible time which was unfortunately quite predictable. Both teams struggled to hit but the team with an actual offense got more timely hits.
  24. We're done. CC has done a lot for this team but he likely just cost them this series.
