  1. Yeah, Dodgers-Astros would be the best of what's left. But there's not much left. Braves can go. I can never pull for the team that takes mine out, ever.
  2. I hope Haines does get fired just so everyone can see that a new hitting coach won't do squat for an offense full of replacement-level hitters.
  3. I have a bigger problem with the HR he gave up.
  4. I guess I'm not overly surprised. The Cards are many things, but poorly run is not one of those things, and without a deep playoff run they were probably unmoved by what was really mediocre performance bailed out by a ridiculous streak at the end.
  5. It is the only way small market teams can keep generational players. If one wants to argue they should never try to do that, I think that is probably fair based on how these usually pan out. But if you wait until say, 2 years out from FA the player is not risking as much by playing it out and is less inclined to sign. He can wait for a number that the small market team has no chance to match. This doesn't really matter for the Dodgers and the big kids on the block. They can just wait for FA or a year before and do it then and eat the cost. They can afford to buy out the risk of waiting.
  6. There's a video out there that goes into great detail dissecting that Wilson INT. The Patriots had run that exact play dozens of times on Butler in practice. There's practice video of him getting beat on it over and over, but in the game he corrected the first move he made and Browner jammed the other WR perfectly at the line. Belichick was also originally going to call a timeout on that play, but he was watching Seattle's sideline and noted they were doing a lot of talking and seemed to be indecisive/chaotic about something. He then changed his mind and told the staff on mic not to call timeout, feeling that it was a bailout for Seattle and allowed them to settle down. Butler was also run on to the field at the last second; he wasn't part of the standard goal line defense but there was either an injury or a sub confusion that put him on the field.
  7. I'd take a player worthy of being in the batting order at this point. He isn't.
  8. If he had been Ryan Braun it really wouldn't have been that bad and I've always and still think people really bemoaning Braun's like the worst thing in the world are a tad dramatic. It could have gone better or worse, but when you sign a 9-year deal, by year 6, 7, 8, there's been a good deal of inflation watering those years down. I liked Yeli's deal even assuming his best baseball was behind him. But we have 2012 Nyjer Morgan right now so yeah, it's a disaster.
  9. Again, very simplistic and arguably just false. No Williams, no Suter. I don't think we get Ashby in back-to-back games otherwise. Possibly a 4-2 win. Maybe a 8-4 loss. We don't know. But claiming it made no difference is pretty absolutist.
  10. Exactly. You can't just look at what happened then decide you wouldn't have used him, so it's not a factor. We just don't know what goes down. Personally I think it's likely we see Williams at some point during the Ashby disaster.
  11. I mean, that's not true. It was definitely a factor last night. But until then, largely yes.
  12. We never scored. Nolan Ryan could have pitched 9 frames. It didn't matter. I don't know how people reflect on this and blame CC. Not his finest series, but yesterday was probably worse than anything he did Monday. In the end, his decisions just didn't matter a whole lot. Whenever we got a small break, ATL was right there punching back. I think some of the choices are ones CC doesn't usually make, but I can't fault him for trying something maybe a little extreme to get a dang run across. The team flamed out a month ago and just never got going again. It's the nature of this cruel sport unfortunately. You hope your bad month is in May, not half of Sept and Oct.
  13. Their biggest expenditures have mostly been disasters.
  14. I'm sort of over it. He's been historically good but when your lefty weapon gives up a rocket to a LHB and loses an elimination game for the 2nd time in 3 years...it becomes what you're thinking about when he's in there. I don't know. Obviously would be fine watching him next year, but you sort of know he's gone in FA anyway so maybe there's a point you try to cash out.
  15. actually thought of that tweet this morning, for some reason.
  16. lol, ok. Maybe Sal Bando is available.
  17. Not even close. We wish that were that case right now.
  18. This is exactly how I feel about the season. And tbh, why I don't feel as sad as 2018. Maybe it's because I'd never seen a Brewers team constructed this way, but I never felt this team could do it, because of the offense. It could also just be that there was no epic race at the end and we got to just cruise. But magical is exactly the right word. I never had that magical feeling about this club. I talked myself into it, for sure, but something always felt off about buying into them.
  19. I just can't see how. There is nothing coming up the pipeline that's going to do that. The only dream I can cling to is fixing Yelich to the point he's a shell of what he was. Yeah, I'm sure they can move a guy here or a guy there, but this offense badly needs something. And it's not just Yelich. It's JBJ. It's Cain. There's a lot of money in some not very great players.
  20. Counsell had a bad night. I think that's fair. Yesterday, probably not great, but you can at least explain away some of it by being backed into a corner by how bad the team had been hitting. Then of course we get some support tonight and just can't hang on to it for anything. Personally, didn't like Ashby coming into this game at all, and thought he was left in too long. To me, if Woody is available, you bridge Lauer with Woody. And if you pitch Woody, IDK why he throws 12 pitches, doesn't bat, then gets taken out. None of these are really super egregious though. We just didn't have it. And when we did, it was hit hard right at a guy, or we couldn't hold a lead for 10 minutes. Just a badly timed, unfortunate, ultimately really sad end.
  21. Content to just sell the tix to opposing fans and make coin off the team, we know. You really are the dumbest idiot on this site. I've wanted to just be straight about this for a while.
  22. Their lineup is insane. It's hard to not make mistakes when nearly every guy 1-7 can end the game with one swing. I admit that I didn't know how much power they had until I was at Game 1 and saw all their numbers on the board and it was like 6 straight 30 bomb guys.
  23. I'd be content if this team made a WS and got swept, really would. Would just like to catch one in MKE. Don't see that happening any time soon. They got lightning in a bottle this year with the pitching staff. Sorry, but I don't think an offense like this can win sustainably year over year. It's really bad. The second they played October pitching and didn't stat pad with crappy teams and crappy relievers, they were badly exposed. And there is little they can do to help the offense. Jackie Yelich Jr. is one giant problem, but not the only one.
