  1. How about that one game is not enough to prove who is the better team and who deserves to advance. They get 162 to win their division - that is their shot at a berth for being the most consistent over the course of the season. Neither one did. If we're this hung up on that, may as well just pick the best record from each league and do the World Series.
  2. I don't recall playing the Cubs or White Sox in previous playoff years so I'm not sure what this means. It was a packed house for the NLDS in 2018 against the Rockies. There was a potential matchup with the Cubs on the horizon in 2018 when tickets were being sold. It was only once they lost to COL that it didn't happen. In the lead-up to the NLDS you were able to sell tickets to confident Illinois buyers for 3, 4 or 5x face. You made more money on the NLDS than the NLCS, also because the face value was much lower.
  3. Agree with all of the above. Evaluating a kicker is just not as simple as looking at FGM/FGA and ranking by percentage. There are too many variables, like the venue most of the kicks are made, or that having a big leg will result in a coach forcing more low-percentage kicks. There's no difference between missing a 43-yarder to win and a 64-yard "well why not?" try at the end of the first half.
  4. Game 2 was really easy to sell at a modest gain. But Game 1 requires PTO for most folks so it is predictably not as easy. G2 I sold on SH in less than 24 hours, G1 is still listed and I keep dropping the price. I think I probably will still get face back, but it's looking like a profit of like $10 a ticket. Nothing fancy. I'd go but I'm actually off that day for another thing planned months ago.
  5. I'm a head coach for soccer. A bit younger than yours. I do play everyone at least some time every game. But my first season, I went in trying to divide the PT all equally. I learned quickly it just doesn't work; I have 4 kids that could play 40 minutes but the rest are just cashed at 20, tops. I wish I could explain this to the parents, but the "advanced" kids are playing more simply because the other ones just start laying on the grass and doing circles if I play them beyond a certain point. It's a waste of time, and the kids who work really hard deserve those precious minutes against other kids that want to compete. I'll gladly play lesser players if they are putting in the effort and playing the sport, but I won't waste that time with disinterested kids while another one is begging me to go back into the game. Managing all of that stuff is definitely a lot more challenging than I'd ever imagined.
  6. Yeah I agree that if Jaire can return they will win enough games without him to make the playoffs. The division looks awful and the seeding, I couldn't care less about. If this is a season ending injury though, I guess bring on the Bucks and Brewers. They're not getting to the Super Bowl with those corners.
  7. You've gone on the Mason thing before and I know where you stand so I'm not going to beat a dead horse. But I think your view of kickers is far, far too myopic. Kicking for the Packers isn't the same as kicking for the Falcons and the guy has hit some absolutely huge outdoor kicks, not just game winners, but games the Packers have lost. The one he hit into a brutal wind just to get the NFCCG vs. Seattle in OT was incredible. He had one really bad year which usually costs a guy his job, but I think you drastically short change Crosby just because of high-level % made stats. The last time this circled around you ended up comparing him to Tucker who is literally the best kicker in the history of the sport. I still think Mason is a top 8-10 kicker of the last 15 years or so.
  8. It's not that simple and this is why it's hard to gauge. Aaron Jones or someone like that is more impactful to a game than any kicker, but if Aaron Jones has a bad game it is unlikely to single-handedly cause a loss. A QB can have that kind of impact but a kicker missing 2 FGs can be devastating. Talk to a Cowboys fan if you think a bad kicker can't be a multi-year disaster that loses multiple games while multiple guys try and fail to win the job. At most of the positions there is someone else to provide some replacement value and you can change the gameplan to mask the loss of what was there. There is no doing that with a reliable kicker, you either make kicks or you don't. Yeah, you might be OK with Gostkowski, but we've all see situations where a kicker is plucked off the WW that week and it leads to a total disaster. That can directly lose a game, which is sometimes all it takes to miss the playoffs. So I don't think K is quite to the level of those most important positions, but I think you're dead wrong that a kicker loss can't derail a season. Especially one as reliable as Mason has been for a while now.
  9. Personally like the play-in game and think it was an ingenious, fast, convenient way of making more of a very long regular season worth watching.
  10. I might put Crosby in the top 5 honestly. Your kicker isn't a problem you want to have to solve mid-year. I think that's the top 4. I don't think anyone else is really "season's over" type of loss. Crosby probably isn't that, but you might go through four guys before you find one that sticks.
  11. I might end up taking a loss on Game 1. Nobody seems to care about going.
  12. Jaire yes. The other 2 are great, but Bakhtiari is playing a position of relative strength on the team and given 17 games, you'd probably still have a good o-line at the end. I think you can figure out losing Smith. Top 5, sure, probably all are still in it, but I don't think DBak and Z are insurmountable. Jaire is insurmountable in my opinion. Can't win a championship in today's pass-happy NFL with a rookie, Chandon Sullivan and Kevin King.
  13. They lost their division and have to beat a clearly inferior team to truly get in as a result. That's fine. There's always something about the format that someone doesn't like. It'll always be that way.
  14. If Jaire is done the Packers are done (as far as title hopes go).
  15. Not really a screw up. They want both on prime time TV.
  16. Unpopular opinion but I'm glad it's NYY/BOS. I'd much rather watch that tomorrow than the Blue Jays.
  17. I must be going blind because I thought Rodgers tripped on himself.
  18. They made such a great play on that molasses snap that it looked like an obvious flag. But it sure looked like they reacted to the ball.
  19. I mean MVS is done, so having Cobb around doesn't sound all that stupid anymore. Not at all the same kind of WR but someone has to catch the ball.
  20. I think everyone is concerned about how this team has looked lately. Even those saying they aren't, imo, are talking themselves out of it. I think it's completely possible, if not likely, they come out looking great on Friday. But it's hard to sit through the last 3 weeks and feel great.
  21. Nice to see Cobb contributing. Looks like he really does still have some gas in the tank.
  22. I didn't listen to what the ref said but what you're saying isn't how holding is enforced.
  23. Somehow I think if Davante Adams scored the TD you wouldn't be so disturbed by that egregious love tap that happens on like half of NFL catches. The whole point is that Joe Barry had nothing to do with that. It's your best player running with a WR. It's OK. We don't all have to be drunk homers.
  24. You’re 100% wrong but go on. He got the ball on Alexander and scored a TD but ok. Lol.
