  1. I think many that sent kids back, including myself, knew full well there would be cases, both reported and unreported. So I don't think it's foolish to say it has been successful up to this point. In our district, that's fair to say. It's been amazingly successful one month in, in large part due to how organized the school has been from day one and how well planned the day to day schedule was. Life is 1000x better than it was in March trying to virtual school a kindergartener. My neighbor's wife has cystic fibrosis and is on a 3rd set of lungs, they naturally opted for virtual. If we had a live-in grandpa or something I'd have done the same. My comments though are more geared toward elementary where the kids schedules and interactions outside of school are completely controlled by parents. Totally different with older kids.
  2. Really? For the most part, I'm only hearing stories of districts here in WI that are now going virtual or extending their virtual plans. Are there any in the state that are going the other way? Ours hasn't changed anything. There have been single digit cases at the HS and MS but zero at all 3 elementary schools. Although the willingness to stay open seems to depend heavily on how red a county is. A nearby school (outside the county) closed for 3 days after multiple cases but I saw that and wondered what the heck does that do? 3 days?
  3. You can do that though and still engage in a bunch of activities people are being judged for doing that are realistically probably less dangerous than getting groceries. Looking back at roped off playground equipment makes me laugh. Cancelling trick or treat, youth soccer? It just seems dumb and based in fear, not the reality of the situation. I'm just not too scared of Covid transmission through a Milky Way. Then when people do things and nothing happens, nobody ever has to answer for their overreaction. The parks in FL have been open since June now without an incident traced back to them. Which makes sense because the crowds are controlled, masks are required, and they are 98% outside. Seemed like the whole world was convinced K12 school couldn't possibly work either, and for the most part, it has. Because kids are highly adaptable. All the talk of them being scarred by masks and a "dystopian" environment was so hyperbolic. They don't care.
  4. Humans are creatures of adjustment. You can see this all over the world before Covid. In a war torn village across the world people adjust to danger and have a different threshold for risk. They will do things every day that much of the West wouldn't consider. It's out of necessity, yes, but their threshold for fear changes too. That is happening with this and it will continue to happen. People exhaust of the fear and most of them, eventually just say screw it. I'm going back to the bar, I'm going to Disney World, we're having our wedding, etc. IMO social distancing has run its course. I think most have decided they're not willing to pause life for a year+. There is a cost to it that increases the longer this goes. We need drugs at this point. The rest of it just feels like busy ants marching.
  5. That kind of makes sense that Middle and High School would have a break out as the ages you are talking about in Middle and High School are closer to an adult age. These are also the ages when puberty hits and you start to see more intimate interactions in this age group. There is also more affection being shown by Middle and High School aged people than you would see in the elementary aged people. I have a suspicion that a not insignificant number of younger kids already got this and it just wasn't enough of an alarm to be tested or documented. Almost nothing has been cancelled in our area. My first grader is in soccer, falling on top of kids, wrestling them at practice, just being a goofy kid. He is in full-time in person school. He's been mildly ill a couple times since March but never seriously. I just find it inconceivable that no elementary-aged kids in a town of 15k people have had it. It's probably been inside the building this school year already.
  6. I wouldn't read too much into opening drives. There's been zero preseason, zero tape on the new personnel/scheme teams have going. If they are still getting steamrolled to start games in November I would be a bit more concerned about it.
  7. Man I'm surprised to see people going so hard on the defense. That defense got off the field a lot last year to save games. It's given up a bit of empty yardage but it's been decent for the most part. I think it's shown more than enough to inspire confidence it can evolve to being a top D by the end of the year which is all that matters. I don't put a lot of stock in defensive stats when a team is up 2-3 touchdowns. You can flip on any game and for whatever reason when that's the case, NFL teams seem to take their foot off the gas. I mentioned the '14 team earlier but defense was also pretty meh most of the season. It wasn't until the end of the year it really became pretty good, to the point Seattle had 8 points in the 4th quarter of the NFCCG.
  8. We've still had zero confirmed cases. Middle and High School did but elementary has been clean thus far.
  9. I mean, the team could still be a bit paper tigery but we should know soon. Minnesota got demolished again and the Lions lost to the Bears. At least we are running these teams out of building this year, not eeking out 4 point wins.
  10. I think they know exactly what they have in Dillon and will wait for cold playoff game or late-season big game and let him loose. That will be nice to do with a guy that has 70 carries to that point. I also doubt his pass blocking is up to NFL speed enough that they feel comfortable with him on passing downs. The way Jones plays there is no reason to rush it anyway. I never had concerns about Gary. I wasn't confident he was any good but he's got to get on the field to make a judgment. The role players who are making big contributions are what has me excited. Too many times the defense has been 2-3 guys and a bunch of borderline practice squad guys just filling space. There doesn't seem to be an enormously glaring weakness on the defensive side other than the banged up DL at the moment.
  11. I think this defense is way better than most of the ones Rodgers has had. It appears similar to the 2014 iteration but it's Week 3. I don't think it's a sieve they are relying on to keep opponents under 30 points, I think it has real opportunity to be good. If they're getting good snaps out of guys like Chandon Sullivan there is no limit to how good the team can be. You'll get a good idea this weekend. They play plenty of good QBs this year so there shouldn't much question as to what kind of team they are come playoff time.
  12. Not sure in what fantasy league anyone would own Adams and not start him every week. I think it should be an easy win but I want to see the defense against another good (better) QB. The Vikes did a lot of damage in garbage time but I'd like to see the defense lock a good passer down for 60 minutes. They never did that last year and it's the difference between good and great teams.
  13. Ours is probably worse, but I mentioned during the Orlando series that I thought the bubble would be a great equalizer. The high seeds that would have had serious home court advantages really got stung by it. This is more like a game at the local park. Fans matter in the NBA. The energy they bring contributes to a lot of 16-3 runs. I think the league has done a great job in the circumstances but this is still weird. It's not the same. Without the wild card you just have a bunch of world class players going head to head. Over the years a lot of NBA players have said things about fans not realizing how intense and competitive practice can be. I think we're sort of getting to see what that's like now.
  14. He'd have to do what he's doing now for 7 years for this to be true. He could fall off quite a bit from MVP levels and while it would be far from ideal it shouldn't ruin the team. Some would have said that about Braun if given his games played and stats 10 years ago. Most would say Braun is overpaid but he's been fairly productive and while the money could better be used elsewhere it's been OK. Also his contract isn't "bad." He was called a sucker for signing it.

  17. Who knows how good the Vikings are but Rodgers has looked spectacular today.
  18. Don't need Dillon to pass pro from the 5. Let him run.
  19. Glad Rodgers keeps going back to him. They need his explosiveness in their offense. Has to get over the dropsies.
  20. No carries for the 250 pounder inside the 5? We doing the stupid thing where he has to sit on the bench because rookie?
  21. ^That's just a tad disingenuous. Fiserv was quite a generous deal for taxpayers, relatively speaking, but that's another animal. Half the cost of a new arena is a lot better deal than most cities get. The owners did pony up $100 million. That that is less common than it should be is another issue, but this idea that Bucks ownership hasn't put any skin in the game is just false. They paid Middleton $178 million to keep Giannis happy. I get that we're all upset about what's transpired, but that post is incredibly off the mark. They made mistakes, and misjudged some things, but the idea they cheaped out and didn't try is nonsense.
  22. I don't think Bud will be fired unless they know explicitly that Giannis does not want him here. Giannis doesn't seem like one to blame a coach, the guy was trying to get Kidd re-hired the day he was fired. Personally? I'd rather have Donovan, but I think Bud is safe for 1 year. I know this is 99% unrelated to his future here, but Bud did list his house for sale a few months ago.
  23. I think it's the right move. This is the NBA, if the Bucks trade Giannis, in the best case scenario, they get a guy or guys for a couple years that will allow them to sit in 46-win purgatory and be a playoff team that never does anything significant. I'd rather push all the chips in for one year knowing Giannis is going to leave. Maybe you still don't win it, but I'd take one year of the conference finals, 60 wins, etc., and being an actual player in exchange for going back to 30-52. Then you can approach the following year with a clean slate and some money. I'm just not interested at all in some stopgap guys and a probably meh draft pick that lets us be a 6 seed. So, I would tweak the roster next year in an attempt to get us over the hump. If they fail, they fail, but I'd rather die trying than just punt one year of Giannis away. We waited too long to get a generational star to sacrifice even one year of his career here.
