  1. The last sentence is so odd I'm not even sure what to say. By that logic catastrophe is impossible because everyone dies. Using reported data to predict what's going to happen with this thing is a fool's errand. It is wildly inaccurate, depends entirely on the testing protocol of that country (the US is NOT in good standing there), is believed to lag by weeks, and only includes people who actually get a test.
  2. You see no way that's true? No way? The CDC has recommended against groups of 50 people for 8 weeks. The problem with the Spanish flu comparison is that millions of people were not crossing oceans regularly in 1918. This is an enormous country and this thing has spread all over the place. The reported numbers mean nothing, lag by weeks, and don't reflect the hordes of people who will get this and never have it documented. Those people are still making other people sick. Too many people are ignoring the recommendations altogether as well. I think it is entirely possible there IS a season. I think it's also much more likely than some people realize that there is not one. That all depends on a bunch of things, but to say there is 'no way' that happens in the worst case scenario is just being dismissive. Also on the warm weather - you've said this a few times now and I'm sure people are hoping that, but the Harvard School of Public Health has already shot that down for the most part and said it is entirely possible if not probably that the weather will do nothing significant. Nobody knows what's going to happen with MLB or NBA. They can keep stating their hopes but that's all they are. Hopes.
  3. I honestly don't think we're going to have a season. Hope I'm wrong.
  4. Some of the going out is not really avoidable. If your fridge is empty and you worked all week somebody is going out. I think this is about to get even worse though. I fully expect restaurant/shopping closures to be mandated very soon. American Airlines refunded and redeposited all my flyer miles, I was to fly out on 3/23. Mother in Law was standing strong but we finally convinced her to bite the bullet on this.
  5. Atmosphere will be awesome at the "Opening Day" game
  6. Since no one answered: RTBNL is very much open, as is the team store.
  7. Almost nobody would keep their kids home if it were optional. School is a free daycare for 90% of the population. The CDC has unfortunately already said that the 4 week breaks will probably not do much. They are recommending 8, which, my lord, what a mess.
  8. If there is anything positive to come of this it's that. We are going to face that someday and we need to be more prepared than we are now. This might be the wake up call needed to get our house in order for the day when a major killer disease comes knocking. I worry that all the social distancing will do what it's supposed to and next time people won't think they'll have to do it because "It was no big deal." I've had the exact same thought and think it's pretty likely.
  9. If this blows over in a couple weeks you can bank on "Did America overreact?" headlines while they pretend they played no role.
  10. Weird question, but is the team store open with the season suspended? What about RTBNL?
  11. Our daycare is staying open. My kids won't go, but this is still kind of disappointing.
  12. It's not that black and white though. The one my kids attend does take kids ages 2-9. They have the capacity to do that, but the place clears out from 8-3 for school, obviously. They take those kids on full-time during the summer. My kids won't be going, but I imagine right now they have to decide to a) close, and take on an enormous financial loss. b) stay open, make a lot of money, and jeopardize the entire purpose of this whole thing. I am glad I'm not them. I anticipate they will in fact close, but one way or another there are going to be large groups of people congregating. If that means 8 kids going to one stay at home mom's house, it's still going to happen. I was already hearing about schools banning kids for extra time if they find out they traveled for SB. I am not so sure other parents will be happy about a daycare kid coming back to school after this hiatus.
  13. This is extremely different. Daycares close for snow days and scheduled off days, but an entire month hiatus is something else. It's just not possible that every household has somebody able to watch kids for a month. If the kids are older, they can be alone, but for those 4-9 year olds that can't be unsupervised there is going to be an issue. There is going to have to be somewhere, for some people, for kids to go. Some will lean on family and neighbors but some of these places are going to have to remain open unless there is a government aid or job protection or both for people that can't work.
  14. Won't really affect me personally, at least not nearly as much as some others, but lord is this bad. What are daycares going to do? Probably getting inundated right now, but if people go that route it defeats the ENTIRE purpose of this.
  15. Our district has been closed until April 13th. It's still shocking.
  16. Giannis has pledged $100k to Fiserv workers.
  17. The hoarding should have been stopped in its tracks by retailers. It's not hard to stop one guy from buying 8 packs of Charmin.
  18. BREAKING: Shorewood School District, Whitefish Bay, Brown Deer, Cedarburg, Fox Point- Bayside, Germantown, Glendale-River Hills, Grafton, Maple Dale-Indian Hill, Nicolet, Northern Ozaukee, Port Washington, Mequon-Thiensville, Glendale and River Hills will be closing for 4 weeks. Here we go.
  19. May 1 seems like basically an ideal situation where they can pick things up in 30 days and have 2 weeks of "spring training." At this point I would be ecstatic if that happened.
  20. Whether or not this is true it's laughably stupid. If I run out I will wipe my rear with a cloth and machine wash the cloth. My kids were in cloth diapers and we survived basically that way for a long time.
  21. It's a pretty thin line I think. If this goes even 2 months instead of one I think you're looking at no season. Menomonee Falls schools have just been closed for Monday. The dominoes will begin to fall now.
  22. Agree that June is most likely what we're looking at in a good scenario.
  23. Scary post. This is such an odd thing to be living through. I wish they would move on this now and just close everything. Why are we waiting for something bigger to happen? I can work remote and do most of the time, but I am still frustrated that coworkers are expected to show up right now. There are 4-6k people in my office on a given day. It's insane. Send them home.
  24. Well, schools are going to be shut down. For the WIAA. Yea, what did the girls have left? Like 8 total games in the next two days and without spectators. Don't think it would be crazy to finish that off. Boys too is so close to done, think you could get through this weekend without fans and then if there is huge escalation next week cancel or delay the finals. And this is coming from someone generally on board with all this stuff and that we should be cautious. TP has been the dumbest part of this entire thing for me. Makes no sense to me. That should be very very low on the list of priorities if you're super worried about all this. Another thing I'd say is in the overreact side is the "cancellations" of far out events. Like what's wrong with delaying or saying you're monitoring the situation and will decide later, while working on contingencies in the meantime. Take the Masters, it's a month away. Outdoor, players not on top of each other. Can't they just make a statement that as of now it's on but good chance we'll have to change. We'll update as the situation progresses. If this doesn't explode in the next two weeks it seems one that could be done without fans onsite. If this explodes, sure cancel it. But what's the rush this far in advance. A lot of the early cancellations are because of insurance policies. If you wait until a week beforehand and cancel it can void the policy because at that point it isn't an unforeseen circumstance, it's something you ignored for 3 weeks. Generalizing here and can't apply it to everything but something to consider.
  25. Cancelling school will be utter chaos. There are so many people who will not be able to work, or will be forced to leave too young of kids to stay home alone. It will just have devastating effects for so many people. It may be the right call at some point but I can see why they're reluctant to it. The large corporations that remain open however, while almost all of the office functions can be done via VPN, are being negligent IMO. It's insane. They are waiting for 20 cases to pop up in Wauwatosa first, I guess.
