  1. Worst game of the season last night?
  2. He may not have that person in his life. Not just that, I'm beginning to think he has some not very good people giving him bad advice.
  3. That's true, but someone older and wiser in his corner should be telling him to be quiet. I think that's what I was getting at earlier with Herro chiming in; I think he was basically saying the things he wanted to say to people making those comments three years ago. But he knew better at the time and just went on his way. The fans do this to everybody and psychotically are happy when the players fail.
  4. ^He's talking too much. I hate blindly supporting the flag in cases like this, but the more it goes on every action King takes smacks of insecurity. Just leave and be quiet. People will forget about this completely in a couple months. He's not doing himself any favors by dragging out the drama. Either get very specific with a smoking gun or shut up, stop launching vague and cryptic criticisms. I hope he did this with a very clear destination in mind because honestly what program is going to welcome this with open arms? I'd be pretty scared to be his next coach.
  5. The fact that Gard felt he had to go and see them immediately, to me, would lend some credibility to them being gone. He was obviously very worried about that.
  6. He's 21, not 30. He's grown up on text. Probably how 99% of people his age would do this. After multiple meetings with Gard that went nowhere he was probably not up for calling another one. There are a few guys on Twitter, namely Tai Strickland, being cryptic but clearly taking King's side. I do have to wonder though, how much of this is nothing new, and just a byproduct of social media being available to vent feelings in a way it wasn't 30, 20 or even 10 years ago. If Twitter were around in the 70s how many dramatic Tweets would there be about Bobby Knight.
  7. MLF apparently fired the WRs coach last week.
  8. Wolf thought he was GM in the wings there so I'm not terribly surprised. I actually think Cleveland finally did something right though. A clean blow up. Don't bring in holdovers from this other place that bring in their other friends. They need to just blow the whole thing up and start from scratch. They probably have an OK QB which is a decent start.
  9. "We weren't ready to play" always struck me as page 5 in the canned response quote book. It's something you say when you know you sucked and can't explain why. Or you know the answer is "they're much better" and want to say something else.
  10. Also, Herro was going on about a point that I don't think is relevant here. You can talk about "style of play" and that it may prevent guys from coming to UW, but I don't think it has anything to do with this case. This was much more than that. Plus, it's not like Kobe King is going to transfer and play at Duke and go right to the NBA. These are valid conversations, but not in this situation. I think Herro just got into because he's read the things people said about him and wanted to chime in on a guy leaving UW when he wasn't able to defend himself when he did. I also think it's bigger than just "Gard was hard on me." It probably got under his skin to the point he thought it was personal. I really doubt he's the first basketball coach to yell at him. I just think there was a final blow-up that broke the camel's back.
  11. I think a big way college coaching has changed even within the last 10-15 years is exactly that. "Coddling" or whatever word you want to use is something they almost have to do with some players. It's just a different generation of players than the ones Bobby Knight coached.
  12. I don't want to take that as fact, but speaking generally, coaches like Gard are typically on players that they think haven't realized their potential. But when you blend that with players who are used to hearing how amazing they are, which is most D1 athletes, they don't comprehend it and it can go awry. Could all be nonsense of course, but that was my guess as to what happened here. Gard went with the tough love approach on a guy that wasn't receptive to it. Not everybody is. If that is what happened, it's on the coach more than the player imo. Great coaches can adapt to the needs of each guy.
  13. That's weird and I wonder where their cut-off is. I don't make 20 games. I've probably hit 13-14 for 2 years but I definitely sell some. By the looks of it this will be the year I sell the fewest. I can't believe they're not interested in SSH though. They market the hell out of those packages and it's pretty much a given that you're overpaying for a lot of seats when you do it.
  14. That never made sense to me anyway. He was getting the ball plenty late in the shot clock. I'm guessing those two can't get along, and pure conjecture here, but there was probably one last moment of Gard berating him in practice or something of that nature that sealed the deal.
  15. That's right. I was thinking he announced his retirement in December but he didn't, it was earlier. I can't believe that four years ago already but I thought I remember he quit when he did to ensure Gard the job/get out of the spotlight with the "scandal" that was looming.
  16. King sorta committed to Bo. The retirement talk was way out there by the time he committed. It was pretty much a certainty he would not finish out playing under Bo and he knew that, and I think there was some quote at the time that he didn't care who the coach was, UW was his dream. Wasn't Gard a major recruiter anyway? He had to know him pretty well when he did commit. I think he had a hard time reconciling his lifelong dream of being a Badger with the reality of it not meeting his expectations.
  17. I agree with that completely on the perception. The other thing that makes this seem bigger than it is, is that's happened at major programs much more often than it has at Wisconsin even within the Big Ten. Maybe a slightly odd wrinkle that he quit middle of the season, but I've seen this happen way too often to know that the fans wouldn't be going any easier on him if it happened in May. That's a crock that the fans like to say. They're brutal on these guys no matter when they do it, even if they're 16. Go to Herro's original decommit on Twitter and look at the comments...yikes. It's probable that Kobe King was never really happy at Wisconsin and this season just pushed him over the edge. Not every guy is going to like it. Sometimes it's just that simple.
  18. You could ask your rep but I'm not sure. You always have a shot to purchase the $10 vouchers at the game, but I've been to a couple where they're sold out before they even open the gates. At that point I don't know why you wouldn't just do Fan's choice. It's like $20-40 more and you hand-pick each game.
  19. Went to college with a guy who went to high school with Nelson. It's a small, Catholic school in rural northern Iowa. He's a legend in that area, and rightfully so. 28 MLB ABs, with 2 hits (!), are an impossible achievement. It was a great interview. Sounds like an awesome guy. Has absolutely no ill will toward the Brewers or MLB and talks only positively of his baseball career.
  20. I'm headed to the game tomorrow night which will be my first regular season game at Fiserv. I've done some random kids events there and saw the first preseason game last year but never a real game. I got the Greek Night package, likely would have skipped the post-game Q&A since it's so late, but with what's happened the last week I might want to stick around for it. Of course I guess they could throw Thanasis in there but I'd hope they wouldn't do that to the fans.
  21. He does, and he better retain them because this is not helping.
  22. I thought the Showalter-Herro exchange was pretty civil. Also didn't think Herro took a dump on the program, just insinuated that it's not an NBA farm. Kentucky is. I don't think anyone is shocked by that. Twitter is such a wasteland. 40-50 year old adults committing character assassination on 20 year old kids. When most of these warriors were 20 they were at nickel nights on State St. I can't imagine ever being as riled up as some of these people get about this. All that's missing are some rumors that King's grades weren't good enough for Wisconsin. Unless I just haven't seen them yet.
  23. There's no significant difference in length of game between the leagues. With all the variables accounted for and a massive sample size the NL games ranged from 15 seconds longer to about 2 minutes shorter. The added offense is a wash with all the switching and pitching changes.
  24. ...I'm totally relaxed. Weird post. I'm saying that I don't hold any stock in what professional athletes say when it comes to their own free agency before they hit free agency. It's amazing to me that anybody does at this point. I can't wait for Giannis to re-sign with the Bucks and then be told I was wrong for predicting something I never actually did. That'll be fun.
  25. Yes, you can bet on that Yelich selling out immediately.
