  1. Franchise record though, right?
  2. Honestly I think the Brewers released him as a favor. He could still find a new job at that point and I don't think they trusted him to pitch anymore. He had a chance to latch on to someone needing an arm before hitting FA with everyone else. If his agent is to be believed, sounds like JJ may have been a but high on himself after the '18 season and thought he deserved a better deal. At this point he realized he needed to be in camp with anybody.
  3. If the Bucks don't win the championship this year and it's clear why, i.e. they don't win the East or lose 4-1 to the Lakers, they probably have to try something drastic to get there, like DeRozan or something. I'm just tossing that name out there, have no idea if it makes any sense. But my point is they'll have to try running it back with a second star. If you can point to a flaw on this team, it's the lack of a consistent second star. I like Middleton too, just don't classify him as that level of guy.
  4. The Brewers not only have opportunity, they have recently had some fringe players paid very well after stopping here briefly.
  5. I thought you were going in a different direction with this. I thought he and JJ broke up. I thought you were going to say surprised he didn't laugh at this offer because switching agents clearly didn't help his cause. Actually thought that as I wrote that, but couldn't remember if it happened or I invented it in my head. Tried to Google quickly but it was inconclusive.
  6. If we keep "Mark is selling snake oil" to one thread, that's a win.
  7. Surprised agent39 didn't laugh at this offer. He laughed at the 3/$12m offer someone proposed last year. He must love prove-it deals.
  8. I have an extremely difficult time believing the Reds bought 22 wins this offseason. If you don't see a replacement for Drew Pomeranz, that's probably OK, because they got him in July for Dubon. They'll continue finding guys like that because they're smart. The 2019 Brewers were a middling team for most of the year, which was an achievement considering just how much didn't go their way. I mean, through mid August, what were the bright spots of the team? I have a much easier time listing off all the things that tanked.
  9. Painting his choice to regularly travel by helicopter as some sort of irresponsible behavior is a quite brash. Super wealthy people fly in helicopters. They're safe, especially a top line aircraft like his, chartered by a premier company. Sitting in traffic 3 hours a day isn't a great use of time when you're worth $700 million. We also have no idea how much of the decision to fly that morning was his, if at all. At least not that I'm aware.
  10. I don't believe they sell the vouchers ahead of time to anyone but SSH. They do sell extra vouchers for a reduced $10 the day of the game, but for one like Star Wars, it is likely they sell out ahead of time as I think they did last year. Sugar Skull and less popular ones tend to have lots of extras. Honestly, my rep ended up just saving me a Buddy because I asked for one...I think I would probably keep my 20 pack if I moved out of state, just to keep the perks alive and sell the games off so I have it for when I need it. The price differential of the 20 pack vs. anything else makes it kind of a no-brainer to me. It is hands down worth having a 20 pack but you only realize that after you buy one. They make it very hard to cancel with all the stuff that gets thrown in...if you care about merchandise and what not. Just off the early payment incentive I get $50 in vouchers that last year I used to buy the '18 playoff hoodie. If I were to take off the value of all the throw-ins and the games I don't go to, I'm probably spending like $250 for two tickets to 13-14 games.
  11. Saying the Brewers will win 75 games shouldn't and mostly doesn't ruffle anyone's feathers. The crap about not spending money and Mark Attanasio pulling one over on the fans deserves to be treated as the Facebook comment section fodder that it is.
  12. I don't think the Brewers get lucky as much as the way they build a team and manage the pitching distorts the run differential. They had a similarly disproportionate differential in 2018 where they "should have" won five fewer games. If they don't have it on a given night they throw in the towel rather than waste arms and lose to the Marlins 18-4. Then they'll burn through six guys to save a one-run game, knowing they really have to steal those ones to be competitive. I don't think you can go 60-38 in one-run games spanning two years by getting lucky. Similarly, to me, what's going to make or break this team is the thing people seem to be freaking out about the least. It's the bullpen. Is it going to be closer to 2018 or 2019. Because I'm not really concerned about the lineup, which I think is better overall, or the SP, which was not that good last year and they made it work despite several flameouts.
  13. I think they banking on even people that only make it 1-2x per year using that trip to buy merch, and keeping all the profit in house. I don't know what it is, but the stuff in their store always seems to be of much better quality than what goes to the store. The player tees and etc., I swear they aren't the same as the ones at Kohl's or Target. I wash those once and they're never the same, while the team store stuff seems to last forever.
  14. Historically the theme nights have been announced right about now. 1/30 last year, and 1/28-29 the year prior. I sure hope before 2/15 because I have 6 nights left in my 20 pack and I usually pick a few of those. Annoyingly, they also add 1-2 like a month into the season. This is probably old hat for most people but if you are SSH and care about bobbles, you can email your rep and buy $15 vouchers for the theme bobbles or other theme giveaways. They don't advertise this and you have to ask.
  15. I doubt the Brewers stuff is wide-released until the season is underway. They took control over the team store last year and are banking on the new merch to bring lots of green this season. There is no way after taking ownership of the store that they're splitting the initial profit with a bunch of 3rd-party retailers. I haven't seen the new stuff at Kohl's. I hadn't even connected the dots with the team store takeover last season until right now. As an aside, I find it funny the cap police are at war with the jersey police ITT.
  16. You're mad that you buy real ones and nobody cares, aren't you? Do you think people buying fakes are trying to get on the team or something?
  17. They got special clearance to fly, which is a shame and lends itself to get-there-itis. The fog doesn't care who's on the plane. If you need special clearance for weather you should probably just wait.
  18. I think it's a waste of time explaining to anyone why you think the team is better. It's the same exercise as someone asking for your "source" on something only to give them the source and then have them explain why it's a bad source. They're not actually asking for an explanation. I don't know why the payroll thing has exploded the way it has, but it's immeasurably annoying. Maybe because they have won some games recently. This obsession with it needing to rise like an index fund seems recent, like within the last year or two. It was inflated last year by two one-year contracts that were completely lucky due to the frozen FA market.
  19. Cool, let me borrow your crystal ball when you're done with it. I genuinely do think the Brewers have a better lineup than they did last year, and the continued freakout about the corner infield where they had two guys that made Mendoza look good for half the season is funny. The SP is as good or better; their "ace" couldn't even finish out the year. They had a very high number of things go wrong and still flirted with 90 games, so no, I'm not white-flagging it for the 70-win Reds in January. It has nothing to do with being "too deep in fandom to see reality." It's just getting exhausting and frustrating to read the same crap in the offseason every year when the team continue to defy all the pessimism. At what point does their winning buy a little bit of trust? Evidently not after 3 years of it.
  20. They'll eventually have a good season. It might be 2020. I'm just fully exhausted of the Mark Attanasio is scamming the fans angle, the and idea that they should be anointed division champions today is laughable.
  21. This is so over the top. Must be really amazing to be a Reds fan this year. They won the Central in January. Makes me wonder why they didn't "decide" to win it for the last six years instead of averaging 69 wins a season. And yeah, I'm sure the Cubs and Brewers are actively taking a year off from winning. I bet that's exactly the conversation going on behind closed doors.
  22. Search Reddit/Brewers for DHgate. LOTS of people post them.
  23. Feels like Cincinnati is in a race to be MLB's Washington Redskins.
  24. Based on the conditions and air traffic audio, it seems somewhat easy to piece together at this point. Very heavy fog, so much so that air support in LA was grounded. They circled around the zoo for 15 minutes at 875 feet, waiting for fog to break. Seems as thought the pilot gets lost at the end of that and realized too late that he's gone south into a mountainous region. Elevation goes up to 2k feet in a matter of minutes and they strike a hillside at 1700 feet. There will be gaps to fill in, but it seems extremely likely it was pilot error due to very poor conditions. They have also raised the death toll to nine. I sincerely hope the passengers were clueless and just talking to each other in the back or something.
  25. I've ordered many over the years, though none recently. Worst issue was a Rodgers I got with the nameplate upside down. My mom took it off and re-stitched it the right way and I could never tell.
