  1. They did add pitching, with a great acquisition in Chacin that was still a laugher at this point of the season last year. I think he'll be fine. Obviously, the plan was to go bullpen heavy while the starters got ready. But the long game there was clearly these three guys getting into the rotation. I would say we panic more than they do, but it kinda seems like they're doing it as well now.
  2. I'm with you on Miley, but this is pretty revisionist. To develop young starters you have to play them in the majors. I didn't like Peralta, but it's hard to argue that at the end of last year, there wasn't reason to be optimistic about all three guys. These guys didn't come up in April, they were making meaningful contributions in a pennant race. I don't think anyone saw this kind of trouble coming. Basically it was a worst case scenario that happened. Even in my preseason nightmare, at least one guy would be a reliable starter at this point. The Knebel thing sucks. The timing of it sucked worse.
  3. DanDan is unique. It's basically stemming from Chinese cuisine but its owned by two white guys and they've kind of put their own twist on things. It's not anything like what you'd get at a China Buffet or something. It tends to be less greasy and a bit more artisan. "DanDan will offer an expansive buffet of Chinese fare featuring sesame noodles, chicken potstickers, crab rangoons, egg drop soup, orange chicken, duck fried rice and tofu with celery." That was from last year. So, yes, Chinese, but likely not what you're thinking of.
  4. I'm not sure how 10.00 ERAs aren't disappointing, regardless of age or whatever. Nobody is happy they're playing the way they are.
  5. IDK, I don't think it's a case of high expectations. I personally thought Peralta would play his way out of baseball. I just don't buy him as an MLB player. Burnes, I figured he'd last as a starter, but I was guessing he'd take lumps and finish somewhere around 4.50 as a starter. I thought Woodruff was the runaway cream of the crop, but I still figured he'd take lumps and maybe finish under 4.00 if things went right. But to have all three of them suck immediately? That's disappointing no matter who you are.
  6. Yes I would say yes, tbh, because this isn't a playoff team without wild improvement. As I said early, I don't think this roster has the horses. I think the "We're .500 despite XYZ" is going to be the season-long mantra and we'll be left with a .500 team in September.
  7. Are the pitchers just young or are they also not very good? I was young once too and I probably also couldn't get MLB hitters out.
  8. This game isn't over by any stretch, but even if they come back, these kinds of wins do little for my psyche. Our "out getter" cannot get clobbered in the first inning 75% of the time. I just don't think we have the horses. And signing one guy doesn't make sense to be from a cost-benefit perspective. I think the problem is a lot bigger than that.
  9. I don't know enough to know whether or not he's the reason for any of this, but whatever Johnson wanted, they should have given to him x5.
  10. The "so" is that if he's not out there missing spots is his excuse, you could use that excuse for anybody and by that logic, you may as well not have a coach because the coach is never out there missing his spots.
  11. This is embarrassing. This staff is as bad as anything from the mid 90s. It's worse.
  12. We've also done Golden Mast and Seven Seas. I can't remember which, but I remember one being underwhelming the year we went, and one being good, but we've stayed with DanDan because it was clearly the group favorite. It is also downtown which mattered for more of our people.
  13. We have done DanDan for the last three years and found it to be great. It is buffet, and we have a group only a bit larger than yours.
  14. House of Cards lost me at the threesome with the body guard. One of the worst *** moments I've ever watched in TV. I kept going, but never finished the last season without Spacey.
  15. Yeah, OK. The Brewerfan pedants are correct. Have a beer. Pat yourself on the back. I should have amended my original comment to say "they can't reliably make drama films with no real special effects to make their balance sheet look nice." Then I would have appeased you. Anything else you would like left at your feet? Some of you really get your rocks off just needlessly nitpicking the dumbest crap. If I sound annoyed, I am. The point I was making is still 100% accurate. https://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/ Go down the line of those films and count how many are comps to Bohemian Rhapsody. I would actually amend my once in 5 years success story to say a film like that making almost $1B in more like once every two decades. You cherry picked one film. A film that will make less than Detective Pikachu coming out next weekend.
  16. MCU built a network of stories but they also tried hard to make each one good. For the most part, they have been. They are also cooling it for a bit as there are none currently filming. Spiderman is technically a Sony film, but there are no MCU movies until May of next year. They were also among the first, to, you know, read the source material and film based on it. With Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox it seems inevitable the X Men get rebooted and eventually end up in the MCU, but that's probably a ways off. There are already 4 MCU shows launched for Disney +, so if you can oversaturate comics, they're going to do it.
  17. Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star is Born, and the horror genre say hello. A Star is Born grossed $400 some million worldwide. Suicide Squad, a colossal flop, had a net of $571 million. That places it 100th on the list of the top 100 grossing films of all time. You're talking about a Best Picture nominee, and it doesn't even hold a candle to any MCU film. Get Out was a hit with a worldwide gross of $255m against a $4mm budget. Halloween 2019, commercially and mostly critically successful, $254mm against $10mm Those smash hits aren't even on the same cosmic plane as fantasy/hero relative duds. Bohemian Rhapsody is a once every 5 years success story. My point still holds. Those types of films are not replicable to the point studios can depend on them to keep the lights on. To put it in perspective, Black Panther grossed nearly half a billion dollars more than BR. Ant Man and the Wasp out-grossed A Star is Born by $200mm. That is a C-Tier film for the MCU and one of 4 or 5 they can make in a year. Comparing it to the cream of the crop Oscar nominated films isn't really relevant because the studio is lucky if they can get three of those to make money.
  18. Next two will split, Bucks will take it in 6 or 7.
  19. Bucks fans, lots of them, were a similar brand of annoying after Game 1. 2nd quarter of this game my brother is texting me that this series is over and Giannis is "scared."
  20. Not sure I thought the Brewers game would end half an hour before the Bucks.
  21. Middleton bailed out Giannis tonight. He picked up the slack when he was still stumbling out of the gate and held the fort until he got his act together. He may have saved the series.
  22. Get the feeling the Bucks will pull this one out. Boston is hanging tough but we're looking a lot like the team we've been all year. This point of the game coming up is usually when we just overpower teams.
  23. A 60 point half is more what the Bucks are used to. Hopefully they'll run them out of the gym by the end of this like we're used to seeing.
  24. They keep getting pounded and he's not the MVP. He already won it, but this is exhibit A for why Harden was worthy. An MVP gets out of the east second round. Especially when his play is going to be the reason why. If he doesn't wake up soon this is going to be a big monkey on his back.
  25. I saw it twice in regular mode, 2d? I'm not a fan of 3D, I don't think most are. 3D never really took off the way studios were hoping it would. It seemed gimmicky for most films. Avatar was great for it, but only those kinds of visual spectacles really made it worth it. So I would say that generally, they're not, unless you really love 3D.
