  1. Taking this one off. Getting hard to watch and it's been really nice outside.
  2. Too many teams, too long first 2 rounds, fixed bracket is dumb, and in years where the West 9th seed is 47-35 and the East 7th seed is 38-44, there should be a re-seeding process that lets those teams in. Filed under ideas that will never happen.
  3. 94-95 Rockets went 47-35 and were a 6 seed and won the NBA finals. 98-99 Knicks were the 8 seed (50 game season) and went to the finals. I guess even if an 8 seed has no chance of going all the way, it can still impact the playoffs a lot by taking out the 1 seed. Then you have a four or five with a lot easier path to the finals. Those are two pretty good counter examples, but I’d argue there is less parity in the league today than there was 20 years ago. I didn’t enjoy the first round when the Bucks were the 8-seed and I’m not finding it much more enjoyable as the top seed. Knicks aren't really a great example. That was a lockout season where Ewing and Sprewell missed a chunk of that 50-game season. In a regular year that was a 50+ win team. Even so, 8s beating 1s doesn't justify the playoff format IMO. I'm sure if you tossed the Browns into the playoffs every year in the 2000s eventually they'd have beaten somebody.
  4. I'm kinda hoping they go boring with OL. I'm just not feeling the depth they have there.
  5. This conversation was inevitable if the Brewers did anything other than dominate out of the gates. I am very worried as I've said lots of places. But it is April. This is a month where Eric Thames looked like Barry Bonds and many Brewers teams stormed out of the gates to finish below .500. I got beyond frustrated watching last night and will probably take a week off from watching. But hopefully things get better soon. I think this is probably a bigger problem than DJ.
  6. Who cares. If you hit them it doesn't really matter. One of those weird overblown things people say just to say. If you aren't hitting 85% solo shots a HR offense can work.
  7. Whether there are 138 or 38 left the pitching has been abysmal. Not rusty, it's been horrendous.
  8. I think it's reasonable to expect 1/4 young pitchers to come up and be passable. Not one of them has been.
  9. Feeling way too similar to 2012. I just don't think this team has the arms. They're not hitting, but eventually they will. I don't have any confidence at all that they can pitch. And this is not a problem Craig Kimbrel will fix.
  10. Bit of a slow start but the Central is shaping up to be as brutal as everybody thought.
  11. I guess I don't see the point in bringing Jeffress in low leverage situations. Can he throw the ball or not? The goal is don't give up runs either way. Frankly they need him right now, and if he's healthy, which he must be, I would have liked to see him out there in a game they really could have used him.
  12. The biggest nightmare right now is honestly the offense. Who is playing well? You have the old rocks in Yelich and Cain, and Grandal has delivered. Braun is Mendoza right now, our corners are embarrassing themselves. Moose has managed to be productive by getting power hits but he's not exactly hitting well. Too many problems to count right now.
  13. Absolute gut check night. Gross. Some of those early miracles regressing to the mean now.
  14. The bullpen isn't good. I think everyone knows that deep down, but some, myself included, were reluctant at admit it. If you score 0 it doesn't really matter, but I don't believe anybody feels confident in it right now unless Hader is out there. It's fair to say that the number of hitters flailing is a bigger problem, too.
  15. I consider it to be pretty advantageous. They get to be home a lot early in a transitional year with a chance to really get off to a nice start, something that McCarthy teams were basically never able to do. The only really rough patch is being in SF and then being in NY a week later. There isn't a lot of drastic travel either. The whole last part of the season is at home or in a division state. No clue what kind of team they'll be but nothing really egregious for me about the schedule.
  16. I’ll forever believe that if the Pirates hadn’t swept the Brewers in that 5-game series in July they would have never made the Archer trade. The recency bias of that series made them believe they were something that they clearly weren’t. It really seemed like they got caught up in the emotion of wanting to be relevant heading into the last couple of months of the season, and they made a trade that from the moment it was finalized had a high potential to haunt them for a really long time. I'm still bitter about the Game 5 no-rain delay call. That was so outrageous.
  17. If I still went to NFL games I'd be all for it. Once I stopped drinking and partying and reached about age 29 standing around Lambeau Field in December and beyond was about as enticing as a fork in my eyeballs. I just lost my stomach for it completely. I also found NFL to really be the worst live experience in major sports. With nothing to fill the commercials breaks and nonstop reviews in person you are left with its agonizing pace.
  18. What are the odds someone blames Counsell for something soon because he's at the Bucks game drinking beer instead of "fixing the rotation"?
  19. Aguilar looks terrible but they really need him to get going so I understand the long leash there. It feels later in the season than it is.
