  1. Bucks were still within about 10 with 7-8 minutes left. My timeline is fuzzy, but in the NBA that can literally be erased in 2 minutes of game time. I've seen them get truly blown out before, and this wasn't quite that. If they shoot even something like 43%, that is a competitive game. I think they'll win running away tonight. If they get dominated again I'll have my finger on the button but as of now that game was just an aberration for me. It happens. GS blew a 31 point lead with LAC. When you have to win 16 playoff games to win a title you're going to have nights like that.
  2. $38 million domestic on a Monday. The only two movies to do more were The Force Awakens and Black Panther, both of which opened on a weekend where Monday was a holiday. For reference, a 59% drop from its Sunday earnings. Infinity War dropped 74%. This movie is defying the box office.
  3. I've always heard it's great but just never got around to it. If it were on Netflix I would have watched it by now. I just have minimal energy for seeking out shows and basically need them dropped off for me.
  4. I've never seen a second of The Wire. I've probably seen a second of Soprano's when I happened to walk through a room and Entertainment Tonight was on or something and they had a clip. But if I've seen The Wire I don't remember it. Didn't watch either show. Don't really watch most big shows, though I've gotten a bit more into them the last couple years. Handmaid's Tale is excellent. Most HBO/Showtime stuff I've never seen.
  5. I honestly got theater burnout before this wave of comic stuff, and I was absolutely not a huge comic fan growing up. IMO they just brought fun back to the theater. Movies lost the escapism from the late 90s and into the 2000s. Every film was about corporate greed, some kind of race divide, saving the planet, etc. It stopped being fun. I had enough of that in life, I don't want to pay $20 to see that on the ultrascreen. These are escape movies again and it's fun.
  6. Bledsoe or Middleton likely needs to come through with at least one 35 point game or something to take some heat off Giannis. If there's any worry for me it's that Giannis has to win this series alone which is going to be extremely difficult.
  7. I'm not worried. If they lose Game 2, yeah. I will be. Right now they just lost one of the two games I thought they'd lose initially. The order of the games doesn't matter to me. There was a 20% FG differential and the Bucks were still in it for big portions of the game. I only have one game to judge so that doesn't concern me yet.
  8. Difference being that while Marvel did prioritize making good movies and then piecing a universe together, I don't think that was ever Chris Nolan's thing. He was just rebooting Batman and there was no vision of tying a universe together. Heath Ledger dying didn't help things either. Marvel had some success early, then DC tried to sloppily copy what Marvel was taking a decade to build. That doesn't work. Especially not when the movies are trash. The first two Thors are generally viewed as the worst films in that universe and don't even compare to many of the crap films DC made. I think they might finally have something going with Joaquin Phoenix rebooting Joker, but this awful JL mess and the Batman dumpster fire need to be given a break and rebuilt completely.
  9. I was never exposed to it either. I am a huge Batman fan. When the MCU started to get going, TDK trilogy was in its prime and I was firmly entrenched there. But once TDK ended, DC failed to build and that and then just destroyed Batman/JL. I still think TDK (second film) is the best stand alone hero film. But I can't judge Avengers on that because what they've done over 22 films is remarkable. Infinity War was when I really got pulled in. Now I'm just a huge fan of the whole universe.
  10. Those are the only films that make real money. There was a time even during my life where could make a movie like the English Patient and net $200mm. That just doesn't happen now. There are too many other places to get that type of content, and people prefer to do so at home. So, yes, they still make them (I know that was rhetorical), but they don't generate mass publicity. That is reserved for GoT, etc. The formula now is to spend a lot to make a lot. Comics were ideal because the source material was already written and their demographic transcends pretty much anything. Rich, poor, any race, male/female...lots of people read them, know them, or at least think they're fun. Kids, adults, seniors. Even films that tank like Justice League still make money, but now we've seen what happens when they do it right with Avengers. The comic renaissance is more or less saving cinema, for now anyway. Theaters were in very, very serious peril before these started being made. They still are, but it's a slower bleed.
  11. I think it's gonna end up between Avatar and Titanic. Pikachu comes out 5/10 or something, I'm not a fan, but that's going to put a big dent in the worldwide traffic. Then Aladdin follows...none of these will put up those numbers, but they'll do enough to slow it down. I also don't think it has the repeat viewers of Titanic or Avatar, where you had people going to see the spectacle. Even though I personally have seen it twice, which I don't ever do. This is really just an insane year for cinema. Endgame, Pikachu, Aladdin, Toy Story 4, Spiderman, Lion King, Frozen 2, Star Wars, Joker...insane.
  12. No one cares about this but me I guess, lol, but this thing is shattering just about every record. At this point it has a shot at toppling Avatar's $2.8B record.
  13. I don't think the Bucks are going to shoot 35% for a series nor will Boston shoot 54%. Maybe that continues. I'm sure their defense had something to do with it, but the Bucks were definitely missing a lot of makable shots. Even with the best record in the NBA they lost 1/4 of their games. Sooner or later they were going to drop a playoff stinker. Against a team this good, they don't need a lot of room to make you look really bad. I'm not worried. I expect the Bucks to come out tomorrow and win running away, then steal one in Boston and it's back where it has to be. I might amend my Bucks in 6 to Bucks in 7, but we'll see.
  14. I haven't watched the Simpsons for about a decade, but I did love the show and still occasionally look up my favorite scenes. I think it's probably burned out, but if some people still enjoy it, that's cool. One thing I never appreciated when I did watch it but have researched since, is how often they made references to classic films and pop culture. There's a website out there that tracks it and it's literally hundreds if not thousands of times. A lot of them are subtle and probably not caught by most people.
  15. Pretty sure I said it's LIKELY over if they lose a game 2. LIKELY. In that it's UNLIKELY that if they were to go down 0-2 losing both games at home I think it's UNLIKELY that they would come back and win. I also said that I still think they'll win the series. But when people are saying it wasn't really Boston's D that shut us down or trying to downplay it, I'm not allowed to disagree? Also, you didn't seem to get quite as upset when I said I thought this was going to be a tough series and you threw out ridiculous reasons for why I might think that like suggesting it was because Boston's historical standing as an NBA franchise instead of their current talent. So...it doesn't seem like you get it. If you believe that the series isn't "likely" over if they lose game 2, I think don't get it. Settle down man. I never referred to you directly at any point pregame. You seem like a really angry guy.
  16. They're deep and a matchup problem. I don't think everyone needs that repeated when they give a potential reason that the sky isn't falling yet. You two are trying to convince that the series is over if the Bucks lose a game two that hasn't occurred. Also, what's with this "I told you all Boston is good!" thing. I don't know anyone that expected this to be easy for the Bucks.
  17. Sure looks like they have. Unless you're of the opinion the young, long athletes who are contesting every shot really aren't good and you need to stick to that narrative. Boston's defense was absolutely suffocating tonight. The Bucks came back in the 2nd by making some REALLY tough shots that they were never going to sustain(Middleton's 3 point play, Hill's 35 footer).... Dude. We get it.
  18. Rather lay this dud in game 1 if they're going to do it.
  19. I'm trying not to rag on the officiating, because the Bucks are getting to the line, but there is a lot of uncalled hard contact on Giannis this game that's leading into why Horford + have been so effective. FT differential or not, they're allowing guys to beat up in Giannis. That's a wrap. Boston now has home field baring a very-very unlikely comeback right here. No offense, just always found this take rather silly. So the Bucks win one game in Boston and then have it back. How often does it really happen where the home team wins every game and the series goes 7. Bucks just can't come out and do this again. I doubt that they do.
  20. Wow so they just stop it at 2-0 now? That's kinda cool, should shorten the playoffs a bit.
  21. I'd say that's a dagger. Couldn't have looked worse in game 1.
  22. Crowd has got to get way more into this
  23. Sure doesn't look like either of these in particular is true. And Brown shot nearly 40 pct from 3 last year. Dude nobody reasonable thought the Bucks would sweep this series. Games like this happen. I'm not gonna draw broad conclusions from game one. I think this is one of the tougher matchups but this is gonna be a competitive series.
  24. Not sure I've seen Giannis look worse all year
