  1. Lordy. I mean, they need this, but that price makes me gag.
  2. Not only that, but super niche players don't have a ton of trade value usually. A lot of teams have a specialist that already does his job so the number of suitors is whittled down quite a bit. So you're left with teams that need the job AND have a spot to clear.
  3. I'm really surprised by all the pessimism. I don't know why, but I am.
  4. Just feels like one of those moves that's an afterthought and ends up paying big dividends over the course of the season. Really like it.
  5. Brewers win playoff series because I think it's going to happen this year. I think the Packers are going to have a terrible season upcoming. The offseason smells of desperation and I think after next season McCarthy is fired and things are blown up. Feels like a 2006-type transitional season to me.
  6. I could be mixing stories but I was at the 3-HR game as well as his bobblehead game. I think they were the same game? But I can't confirm. In any event, his bobble was the one that started bobble madness. Geoff Jenkins had an opportunity in that game to do something no one has ever done in MLB history - hit for the home run cycle. He had a 1-run, 2-run, and 3-run HR in the books when he came to bat in the 7th inning with the bases loaded. He struck out looking. Credit: Topper09er
  7. I like Aguilar a lot. I really have fun watching Santana too, to the point that I didn't want him traded for SP, even though I knew it was irrational. I would have come to terms with it, but I became a big fan of his. The offense has talent it hasn't had in decades from top to bottom. It's at the point that the guys who don't make the cut are MLB quality players. It becomes a case of being unable to keep everybody. The Packers had a few years where they were doing this every year in training camp - cutting players that could play for other teams. It's tough but part of becoming a better team. I love watching Santana and Aguilar hit, but there is simply nowhere for Aguilar to play.
  8. Win-Loss Record: 88-74 Playoffs: Yes Highest Playoff Level Achieved: Lose NLCS All Star Game Representative(s): Knebel, Yelich Offensive Player of the Year: Cain Pitcher of the Year: Nelson Most Surprising Player: Broxton - will end up in majors for one reason or another and provide a boost at some point. Pure guess. Most Disappointing Player: Shaw
  9. I agree 50%. Cain is Cain and if he helps us, which he does, I want him. But I wanted Lynn. He was the value signing of the offseason. Yeah, I'm sure Cain will technically help. But I think he is getting us from 81 wins to 84 wins, while getting a year older in the process. Another OF also brings along the potential for morale problems with not enough at bats to go around. I hope I am proven wrong and the wins are enough to challenge for the playoffs. I just think if you weren't going to pull the trigger on pitching, I would have ran with Braun/Yelich/Santana with Broxton/Phillips on the bench and banked the cash forward. And if you have enough pitching for 2019 and forward, then you can find the missing positional piece to push you over the edge. If he gets us from 85 to 88 wins that's a possible WC berth and a chance. All you need is a chance, especially in baseball. I think he'll be a good performer for at least 3 years. We'll see.

  12. I wanted Lynn out of this whole crop from day 1 because I knew he'd be economical. Can't believe what he signed for vs. what Cobb got. There's no way the gap between those 2 is as wide as their contracts. If we could have had Lynn for a 1/12 I would have loved it, but alas. I'm fine with nobody, I wasn't really into anyone besides Lynn because he was the only guy I saw as a value signing. Roll the dice with some of our young guys and hope a couple step up. Cain plays every day and makes the team a lot better. I don't hate signing him suddenly because we didn't get Cobb.
  13. The general lack of moves. At least for now it's representing a change in the way things are done. I think it's one of the reasons the Brewers were more aggressive. They saw a window to strike gold this year that may not have been there otherwise.
  14. Right, which is why they need a legitimate starter because they are hoping to repeat last year's results with a guy who is hurt and won't start the season, a guy who had the best year of baseball career at 30, and it was BY FAR his best year, and Davies who is probably the safest SP that they have right now. This team is better, but expecting the SP to hold up again like that with the current talent level is a bit like what some folks expected in 2014. They've added enough to the offense that I think even with some regression there will be an evening out and they'll be ok. The SP is not where it needs to be. Anderson is a high 3/4 pitcher most likely. I don't think expecting 2.74 out of him again is realistic. For the third time, I hope I'm wrong on that.
  15. Yes, I would rather have Davies in two years, I would possibly rather have him right now. But the question is having both to win right now, not in two years. Adding quality SP is so much more than just plugging in the guy's stats. It's a tremendous load off the rest of the staff and bullpen. It has a trickle down that offensive players don't provide. I don't think Anderson is going to be a 2.74 guy again. I just don't see it, but hope I'm wrong. If he's around 4 I will be OK with him. Nelson healthy, Davies and Anderson is much shakier to me than tossing Lynn or one of these guys in there. It makes it all more solid to me. We don't have an ace, we're not going to have an ace, so loading up on guys that are reliable and give us a chance is our best bet imo.
  16. And let me make it clear that I like all three of our guys, and I like Davies and Nelson a lot.
  17. You should probably look at those guys stat lines. They were pretty great a year ago. While you want to insult people that don't believe that Arrieta, Lynn, or Cobb are rotation changes, you really are knocking three guys that are really putting it together. Most fans would dream of having a 24-year-old in Davies put up the stat line he did but since he's basically a middle school student, we dismiss him. What? Lol. I didn't insult anybody. And again, I said their ceilings are about the same. What I said was that those three have zilch as far as a track record of consistent success, which is 100% true. I've looked at their stat lines. The only thing close to an insult is suggesting that I didn't. None of those guys has put together consecutive good seasons and Davies spent a good stretch of last year not just being "meh," but outright miserable.
  18. You can't be a Brewers fan because you sold your tickets to a Cubs fan? That kind of stuff is just childish dribble. I would sell NFCCG tickets to a Bears fan if they were willing to pay a stupid price for them. It's like you guys think it's selling them the playbook or something.
  19. I think anyone proclaiming Anderson, Davies or Nelson are better than any of those guys has Brewers goggles on. They may have similar ceilings but these guys are far more established and have proven they can do it over and over. There is age risk with them, but not anymore than there is with Anderson (age and health) and Nelson (health). Anderson never pitched remotely close to what he did last year with the Brewers. I hope he does it again, but that's an unknown. FA always has risk. I think Lynn at 4/45 or something is very reasonable.
  20. To say that Arietta or Lynn aren't rotation changing pitchers for the Brewers is nuts to me. There is obviously a risk that they are in decline or will get hurt again, but if they repeated their results or got close to it they're definitely rotation-changers for the Brewers. Either one instantly becomes the best starter they have to open the season. The reason guys aren't getting signed is because owners know the score and are driving contracts down. It's the result of an awful CBA for the players. I don't think it has anything to do with talent at all.
  21. Perhaps, but if that is the case, kind of silly. They're just guys wearing the same colored shirts. Even Suppan wasn't a horrific contract until the late half of it. We've had worse, he just became a kind of lightning rod. For about a season and a half he was exactly what the Brewers thought they were getting. I think Lynn is pretty head and shoulders above those guys though.
  22. I don't get the aversion to Lynn. He isn't young but isn't old, Tommy John really isn't what it used to be and he had another great year last year. He has always been awesome in terms of K/BB, throws decently hard and has pitched in the playoffs. If Darvish is turning down $110mm I think the numbers reported on Lynn are an absolute steal.
  23. If those numbers are anywhere close to accurate, give me Lynn now. He is the real bargain out of this crop IMO.
  24. Lest we forget the Brewers mark these games up because they know who's going to them.
  25. Why would a person do that? If you could get $500 each for $100 seats you'd sell them for $100? Just being a nice person I guess? I sell tickets for face for concerts/sports because I don't like making the effort to rip people off for a profit on something I had no part in creating. I suppose if you bought a house you'd sell it at the original purchase price because you didn't build it and you're a nice person. It doesn't make any logical sense. Selling above face doesn't make one an un-nice person. You bought something that everyone had a chance to buy and its value has increased. You own the rights to it. When a broker uses a machine to buy 1000 tickets at once it is a different story. Have you ever bought a ticket below face on StubHub? You should probably mail the seller the difference because that would be a nice person thing to do.
