  1. On a positive note, I had my first perfect bracket this year!
  2. Nothing else to do...
  3. We could simply offer to host both our home and away games for the WS.
  4. I forgot that this was another part of the reasoning not to spend too much money to upgrade the DL. I suppose Lowry could be the one to sit, but with Clark about to make big money, Lowry off his rookie contract, and Smith sliding inside, I doubt they put big money there anyway.
  5. But a 2-down run-stuffing NT will be less expensive. That was the main reason I brought it up that way.
  6. Another consideration to sign/not-sign Bulaga is that Clark, Linsley, Bakhtiari, Aaron Jones, and King are all FA in 2021. There are our priority FAs.
  7. Good post, Eye Black. I've always thought that a linear concept of a player's worth was silly. Two other ways to look at the variable nature of worth: - Upgrading from a 0 to 2 WAR player is much less expensive than from a 2 to 4 WAR, which is much less expensive than a 4 to 6 WAR player. The higher it goes, the fewer there are. Supply and Demand kicks in at that point. - What is it worth to "buy" a World Series? Probably more to a team that hasn't ever won one than to a team that just won one. Not that everyone doesn't want to win every year, but that it's more special to someone that doesn't have one.
  8. I think that happened, but I think the problem was deeper than just sweating too much. I think that was one of those training camp blurbs that deserves to be in the "best shape of my life" thread.
  9. Ironically, I just posted that in Fackrell thread. Pick up (draft or FA) a starting NT, move Clark to DE in base. For obvious passing downs, Clark moved to NT. Clark-NT-Lowry with Keke backing up DE and Lancaster at backup NT is a decent DL and big improvement over last year. Conversely, You could get a new starting DE and keep Clark at NT, but that would seem more expensive. A front of Smith-Clark-NT-Lowry would be really hard to run against without giving up any pass rush to do so.
  10. Agreed about the DL. Lancaster is an NT and shouldn't play anywhere else. I'd love to see them pick up a starting NT and start Clark at the DE (shifting him to NT on obvious passing plays). If Keke steps up at DE, that would also really help.
  11. I don't think its Linsley being bad, just being above average and paid to be pro-bowl caliber. I'd be happier to see him in the $7M cap range instead of $10M. I'm not sold on Turner at G or T, which is why he was my third RT option. I'd be fine if they tried him at RT in ST to see how he holds up to evaluate the option. He doesn't seem to handle stunts well though and seemed to miss people in the small C-RT gap that way. Out at RT could make that a worse problem.
  12. Martinez wasn't a bad MLB. Not special, but not bad. But not someone to spend $10M/year on either. Martinez and Baun's athletic profiles are eerily similar: Baun 4.65/7.0/4.31 (40/cone/shuttle) Mart 4.71/6.98/4.20 with very similar height/weight/hands/arms. Baun's instincts seem really strong, but I'm not sure I want him in the first round. In the second round, perhaps.
  13. Biegal barely had a chance at MLB before being cut. I was surprised how quickly they cut him after looking half-decent at the position (though in pre-season). I've seen the same about Braun this year (and another lower pick I forget at the moment). Fackrell would need some convincing, but I seriously think he would get a huge career boost. He is really only a decent OLB backup but could be a starter ILB in the right system; With the bonus of blitzing from that position, Clay looked renewed when playing from ILB that one year. I think something similar would happen for Fackrell.
  14. Extending Linsley and lowering his cap number wouldn't be too bad either. If we can get Bulaga back at a team-friendly deal, I'd be ok with it. Otherwise, a high draft pick, Veldheer, and Turner aren't a horrible multi-tiered plan. A healthy Bulaga is the best plan, but not guaranteed.
  15. A double-dip at WR, a 4th round G/T, a big NT, and a development ILB. Unless someone drops in our lap, I'd be ok dropping back into the 2nd to pick another top 100 pick also.
  16. But he is no Bill Hall...
  17. [sarcasm]Sign stealing?[/sarcasm]
  18. Nate Palmer? I guess I was thinking of watching for more tweener types. A short OLB that falls to the 4th round of the draft due to size with good instincts. The UDFA market is a bit too hit-or-miss. Fackrell is the opposite-- an OLB that doesn't really produce sacks (yes, I'm discounting two years ago as more luck than repeatable production). Noting that he covers well. It seems like a decent way to fill our ILB need without spending a lot of $$ or high draft picks on it. Of course, it seems like the Packers are going the other direction and looking for big safeties to do the same.
  19. I expected Burnes and Woodruff to do what Woodruff did last year and how Burnes got derailed is still a huge mystery to me. I expect him to make the rotation this year and stick. TOR level might be a stretch, but certainly a strong 2-3 isn't out the question, IMO.
  20. Just an out of the box thought, but I've never quite understood why they didn't try Fackrell at ILB. Decent in coverage and speed, but a little light to be an OLB. I've thought for the last 2-3 years that he could play ILB well. Clay was another OLB that I thought was actually better as an ILB and would've signed him last year to play inside. Granted, passing up the pass-rush potential is difficult in his case. More generically, I've thought that some of our later draft picks and UDFAs should be focused on shorter college OLBs (i.e. the 6'2" tweeners) that have good shuttle/cone numbers and move them to ILB. You won't know how the instincts will transfer, but that is better than drafting 6'0" slow footed ILBs that can't cut it in the NFL.
  21. Add in Lorenzo Cain. Cut out midnight sweets and lost 12 lbs. https://www.mlb.com/brewers/news/lorenzo-cain-changes-diet-reports-early
  22. Johnson was a huge proponent on high FB and Burnes thrived on it. It seems like he got away from that last year (he mentioned low FB troubles in that article posted above). High spin rate FB tend to "hang" or rise so I can imagine throwing it low puts it in a bad spot. Whatever it is, he is my bounce-back candidate this year. Also, regarding having 7-8 SPs competing. Nearly every year one guy is injured or hit hard in ST. Not to mention AAA depth or the long man in the pen. Happens every year and depth is never a problem. Most years we wish we had more.
  23. This could simply be a case of Brewer management playing good-cop / bad-cop. Even if it wasn't planned that way, arby is a difficult process between a team and a player. CC is simply smoothing over some of the pain of losing. Sign of a good team manager.
  24. If they sign someone this week for $2M, it might...
  25. Is "round" the best shape? If yes, you can include me!
