  1. I admit to loving the arm-chair QB aspect and hopes the NFL draft brings. My wife still gives me grief about having the draft on while she was in the hospital about to give birth to my daughter (only a 20 year grudge...). The draft is the only sports event producing relevant news at this point, so I'd imagine people would be glued just because it represents "normal" events.
  2. While the running the same routes makes sense... a la Jared Cook, I was surprised at how much blocking Graham actually did last year...and wasn't horrible (for the plays I saw anyway).
  3. It seems like a pointless rule. Why would it matter if the FA had over 10 years of experience? If someone is giving them a big contract, it seems like it shouldn't matter.
  4. Interesting info, thanks for clarifying. It would be encouraging to see GB utilize him that way (i.e. slot WR). Occasionally, I see someone picking the Packers to draft a short "slot" WR, but I really don't see that happening. I think "big and fast" is the goal for our WR type now. Granted, Funch isn't fast, but he is also a stopgap FA filler too.
  5. Last year means nothing. He had 3 catches. But I'm curious where you got this info? How does your theory compare in 2018? As to JJ, "good hands, with drop problems" - His early career was plagued by concentration issues, but he greatly improved that later on when he had his best seasons. His worst seasons where the ones that found him with reduced playing time often because of it. As for signing Funch, I'm good with it. He fits the mold of one of my previous posts where we bring in a FA vet as part of the solution, then draft to cover - a 2-fold way to fix a problem. At worst, we have a player similar to Allison (who has been useful, just not last year), but with more upside to his game.

  7. If Allison had stayed healthy in 2018, he would've had much more. He had 20 in 5 games. But we agree that Funch has the higher ceiling (physically he does compare with Lazard much better, but Lazard has better hands). He also has better potential to be in Rodger's dog-house on drops. Depending on the draft, I expect him to be #3 or 4 next year, catch ~35 passes... essentially Allison's role. He is the better WR, but not a drastic improvement. Hence my comparison.

  9. PF, do you expect Funch to catch 60+ balls like he did once? Or 30-40 like he did his other 3 healthy seasons?

  11. You're being way to kind to Allison, who has never exceeded 303 yards in a season. Every one of Funchess's seasons, save for his injury lost 2019, has been significantly better than Allison's 'best' season. I was trying to compare player profiles and how they would fit with the Packers. Both are similar heights and speed (though Funch is much heavier). Both have similar inconsistencies with catching the ball. I agree that Funch has more upside. Playerprofiler calculated the "catchable pass percentage" for both players, then divides that by the actually catches for a "True Catch Rate" -- trying to normalize for the QB effects. If you compare Allison's 2019 with Funch's 2018 (to get a comparable game sample size), they both had ~76% TCR.

  13. Might depend on "how torn" it is. If the ligament is detached, you need to do it soon or the muscle will not stretch again like it should. Its easy to judge someone when you aren't standing in their shoes.

  15. Hey I predicted something successfully. I am like genius now! I fully expect Newton to sign with the Patriots and then become this uber god MVP QB and then some team signs him next year to a stupid mega contract looking at you Raiders. Then he falls apart and is worse than Tim Couch. * Netting the Patriots a 3rd round comp pick in the process. ** With the Patriot's 2020 6th round QB selection comes out of nowhere in 2021 and becomes an All-Pro.
  16. Sounds like another version of Allison. I keep reading about his inconsistency and drops though. I'm sure Rodgers will be overjoyed...
  17. It just dawned on me that the Raiders just signed two of the top FAs at ILB: Littleton and Kwiatkoski. For a position that is generally devalued compared to other defensive positions, I find that pretty interesting. With all the big FA $$ signings and all the draft picks they have acquired, I'm not sure if they are simply crazy or crazy like a fox.
  18. ok, i'll take back the high pick on a TE remark. Sternberger, if he can recover, should be a good help. Lewis is a good blocker, don't think too much of Tonyan. I stand by the need a WR in the 1st 2 rounds. WR is a fair point. But it sounds like we have been kicking the wheels of several, too. I'd be shocked if we don't sign a FA that is "decent" (i.e. at least a #3) before all is said and done.
  19. I don't disagree, but its a weird article based on what others have said. No real research or background to the numbers...
  20. I don't think Graham at $9M/year is the mark of a "good" offseason. But they have to...they have no draft picks.
  21. I like how Gute is getting decent FA options in place to reduce the direct draft need. Then you can focus easier on BPA in the draft and not be pressured to fill the hole.
  22. I'd take Matthews for Kirksey type money if he'd play ILB.
  23. I think it's possible if not likely that a Bahktiari extension gets done soon to keep him here longer and adjust his cap number down to free up space. Clark's deal could be massive. I'd still be in on Litteton. Kirksey is a nice boom or bust play at LB, but if he's injured again the position is actually worse off than last year since you're losing Martinez. Littleton would be a solid starter-type with Kirksey as your ILB2. Ebron is still available if they're interested in a FA TE here. Beyond that, there are the Amari Coopers of the world that would be a legit blockbuster, but that may take some serious cap creativity for Green Bay. I'm hoping they can do both Clark's and Bahk's contracts this year (one good thing TT used to manage), which would eat up much of that $14M For ILB, you can still grab a lower end guy, draft someone, plus hope for Burk to develop and stay healthy. I see Gute as a "not all eggs in one basket" guy, which was TT's main deficiency. Getting Littleton would be nice, but not if we are in cap-jail in the future and lose some of our key guys. Let's not turn into the Vikings...
  24. I'm actually "ok" with no more big FAs this year. Bring in a few more $2M/year types (e.g. Veldheer) and fill the rest in the draft. I'm worried about the pending FAs coming in 2021 (Clark, Bahk, King, and a few more key guys I'm forgetting).
  25. I wonder if they will "resume spring training" for a short time to ramp players back up? Or do you allow for increased MLB pitchers so they can ramp-up their innings during real games?
