  1. A few other "under the radar" prospects having good years: SP: Jorge Ortega - 2.03 ERA, 5K and 0.7 BB per 9IP, 0.887 WHIP, 62 IP at A+ Javier Salas - 2.32 ERA, 6.5K and 2.3 BB per 9IP, 1.16 WHIP, 54.1 IP at A+ RP: Austin Ross (wow!) - 1.65 ERA, 12.5k and 2BB per 9IP, 0.951WHIP, 27.1 IP at AA Josh Uhen - 3.86 ERA, 10.6K and 2.4BB per 9IP, 1.5 WHIP over 18.2 IP at A - ERA and WHIP are not great, but K/BB ratio is my key here. Mike Strong (L) - 1.46 ERA, 9.9k and 2.9BB per 9IP, 0.811 WHIP over 24.2IP at AA Damien Magnifico - 1.35 ERA, 7,7k and 2.3BB per 9IP, 1.1 WHIP over 20 IP at AA 1B: Nick Ramirez: .290 .368 .467 .835 at AA ball (Compares favorably to Clark in the thin air at AAA and Nick is 3 years younger) Garrett Cooper: .281 .364 .363 .727 at A+ ball (seems his power drained in the thick Florida air, but still hitting and OBP machine). OF: As mentioned a few times: Roache and Reed doing a nice job. I can see Reed as an Aoki type player. Maybe with a bit more power. 2B/SS/3B: Nathan Orf: .258 .372 .338 at AA ball - Some nice OBP skills. Possible utility guy? Tucker Neuhaus: .260 .339 .396 .735 at A ball- Fading a bit lately and playing mostly 2B, but still only 20. C: - Really only Carlos Leal as a viable option for a catcher prospect.
  2. After missing one start due to the flu, Holliday singled and walked in Monday's 1-0 loss to extend his NL record by reaching base in a 45th straight game to open the season. Derek Jeter set the MLB mark of 53 games in 1999. The six-time All-Star can now tie Ray Sanders (1944), Solly Hemus (1953) and Albert Pujols (2001) for St. Louis' fourth-best on-base streak since 1914 at 48 dating to last season. Stan Musial still holds the team record of 55, set in 1943. Is there a typo in there? Or am I missing something?
  3. Well, that was the no-so-fun fact...
  4. I didn't follow the minors back then, but how did the Brewers manage when they had their AAA team in Denver? Fun fact. The Brewers were the last AAA team in Denver before the MLB expansion. My main memories were pretty much the same complaints. There and with High Desert for A+ (where we OFTEN skipped prospects from A-ball to AA ball). In fact, I think it was worse then because they didn't use the humidors back then. But I seem to remember most fans being happy to leave Denver and chuckling about the Rockies' prospects of playing in the thin air.
  5. Was that Jackie Robinson in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?
  6. his .344 OPS is beyond ghastly I had to read that 2-3 times before my eyes stopped putting the "B" in the middle. OBS, not bad; OPS... ouch.
  7. I had to say that I was disappointed by Khrush's season so far (one of the underdogs I've rooted for since A-ball). But then I noticed that his OPS is 788 right now. Not all-star, but average as others said. Parra is currently at 768 (with admittedly better D). So, not the 850 OPS we were hoping for, but far from a disaster.
  8. Not shocking that Wagner did poorly in his first start. Not too many rookies do wondering the first time out...unless you are pitching against the Brewers.
  9. I came here to catch up on last night and actually started wondering if Brooks Hall might be added to the 40-man for this very purpose. Then I read the first page that stated he had two bad starts (ok, I've been a bit out of the loop) and figured that nixed that idea. Then to find out the idea was right, just the wrong guy. Congrats to Tyler! This should be interesting.
  10. Wake me up now! Pretty funny dreaming it AND feeling it was actually real.
  11. I agree that Mayo is only one of the 3 pt threats they have, but he isn't untradeable... He only has one year left. I'd certainly rather keep the 1st rounder (or use it as move-up trade bait in the draft) than burn it in this trade instead of Mayo.
  12. So who will be the better NBA pro? Sam Dekker or Frank Kaminsky?
  13. Lingering elbow issues never seem to end well for anyone. Yeah, I wasn't meaning to ignore the player. This is what I was getting to: In the past it's been rest and rehab for 2-3 months and then TJ surgery anyway, so instead of losing 1 year, the player loses a year and a half. It never seems that the Brewers approach to lingering elbow issues has never ended well for them.
  14. This never seems to end well for the Brewers...
  15. Nice to see a few middling prospects having good years. I just missed on my guess, choosing his teammate, Brooks Hall instead. (there is a hint for the rest)
  16. Think of the effect on the SP staff that Lohse brought to the Brewers. He got all the SPs to watch each other's sessions. It built camaraderie, sharing experiences and improvements, looking for problems, etc.. I can't say that it increased our wins a bunch, but I would bet that sort of thing really had an impact on Wily Peralta's confidence out on the mound. Bringing up a young kid with strong team support can do a lot for someone's confidence when they are out battling one-on-one. Same with "untuckem'". Silly, goofing around stuff... but brought a lot of team to an "individual" sport. A good manager earns his money off the field. The in-game stuff is pretty minimal. And, yes, I realize I just supported a manager's worth with two player examples, but the same can apply.
  17. When people talk about a manager not making much difference, I think they are talking mostly about in-game management. At least I hope so. Because the club- house atmosphere and general work-ethic can be greatly influenced by the manager. I think we all have examples of that we can think of in the "real world" where people go through brick walls for their manager or (like Dilbert's PHB) the manager torpedoes the working environment. Not sure if RR fit into the second case, but if yes, those issues normally don't show up for a year or two. Coupled with a meddling owner who appears to be more concerned with public sentiment and ticket sales rather than any long term strategy built around a draft and develop philosophy we aren't in a good position. I have to disagree here. Yes, we did sign Lohse and lose a 1st round pick and traded for CC, Grienke, and Marcom. But nearly all of those look like good choices in the end on ascending teams. And couple that with how we are going after the Latin signings recently, it seems like the develop strategy is pretty well in place.
  18. I kind of liked it. Of course, I completely ignored anything from Timberlake. Enjoyed Eastwood's portrayal of a man struggling with aging. Didn't think too hard about the baseball scouting parts. And Amy Adams. Lots of Amy Adams.
  19. I didn't see the story where you came up on a couple kids playing ball in the backyard. And the older kids' FB "popped" and you instantly knew he was the one. Oh, wait, that was Amy Adams...
  20. He somewhat is the manager version of Kyle Lohse/Aramis Ramirez/Jeff Suppan, isn't he? Ugh No. Suppan/Lohse/Ramirez were all good in the initial years of their contracts. Dusty is just Dusty from Day 1.
  21. If they were from Canada, they would be more polite.
  22. Ok, I can't blame them for bragging about all the pennant titles, but scoring the Cardinal way is pretty arrogant...
  23. He stopped coming when his son was traded (or DFAed, I can't be bothered to remember) from the organization. He ended his tenure here with some epically idiotic behavior and was banned. I hold the personal distinction of making a post that got the final thread about his son locked up. You noticed that I put that in sarcasm blue, right? Good times, people... good times.
  24. Wow. Jungmann, Cravy, Sardinas and a handful of BP arms. Not much to follow on this team this year.
