  1. He's actually quite fast, he just has poor baserunning instincts. And while he's not going to be a 30 HR guy, he does have modest power. Maybe a young Carlos Gomez comparison here (save for the age diff). High skill set but struggles to use it most efficiently.

  3. Huge thanks to our Link Reporters... I'll agree with this x100. Certainly this feature alone makes this board stand out from any other forum I've ever seen. There is a LOT of work put into these features and its much appreciated! *standing ovation*
  4. Bogut has a much more refined low post game. Sanders points are mostly garbage, fast break, alley oop type stuff. This is pretty much my thinking also. But even so, Bogut was never a major post-player. It was almost like he passed out of the post more than he shot (not all bad). But overall, I think Larry can come pretty close to replacing Bogut's impact (more weighted to defense of course) and maybe more if he stays healthy.
  5. I was higher coming into the season on Davis than seriously anybody, ... He's not an everyday player, at least not unless the rest of the team is rediculously good. Then you aren't higher on Davis than everyone else. I DO believe Khris can be an everyday player and has a good chance of being a regular 900 OPS player. I also believe he has a high "flame-out" chance but I'm willing to take a chance on him starting. I'm pretty sure no one thinks he will have a 600+ SLG on a regular basis.
  6. How would you compare Bogut and Sanders as players? Off the cuff, I was thinking that Bogut was MUCH better offensively than Larry, but the more I thought about it, I'm not so sure. Bogut has career averages of 12.2 points, 9.2 Reb, 1.6 blocks. His peak was in 2009: 15.9, 10.2, 2.6. Sanders last year was 9.5, 9.8, 2.8. Now, generally, Bogut is a bigger center (260lbs vs 235; 7ft vs 6'11") and a better ball handler+passer. But I can see Sanders growing into a similar type impact player as Bogut and hopefully without the medical problems.
  7. You know what's funny? Scooter gave himself that nickname because he was a fan of the Muppets and that was his favorite character. Bah! That was Muppet Babies... That doesn't count! ttsather nailed Lucroy and Weeks. Yuni as Rizzo the Rat. Unnecessary and annoying. Pepe' is far more annoying. Plus he thinks all women (or for Yuni, KC and Milwaukee) love him. Unfortunately, Animal left in FA for Detroit... Fozzy the Bear is down in AAA right now (Tim Dillard). Kermit (at least this year) would have to be Segura. Little guy that just keeps doing his job day after day, with all the calamity and chaos around him. Gomez would be Gonzo: Running like he is shot out of a cannon, hanging off the walls, etc... Although, I haven't seen any chickens around the clubhouse. More so last year, Axford reminds me of Crazy Harry. Ax lost a little of his craziness this year. And of course, any Peanut Vendor: Lew Zealand (good thing they don't sell fish).
  8. This, except I'd probably trade Aoki instead of Gindl or Schaefer.
  9. Now to find a catcher named Calvin...
  10. You'd think the Brewers would like to have RHP R.J. Seidel back, the LaCrosse product has flashed some skill this season, and it's been written that the Brewers are keeping an eye on his workload with eyes towards the future. I remember watching highschool highlights of him on the local sports network (I live in the LaCrosse area) and was excited to see the Brewer's draft him. He has gone through so much in the past few years, I never dreamt I would see him at AAA at all, let alone succeeding at AAA. Bravo young man!

  12. I think its "Wagon Speeding Downhill." Not very catchy, but they have a great logo: http://files.doobybrain.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/calvin-and-hobbes-wagon.gif
  13. How dare St. Louis with 3 everyday players below .725OPS succeed at CF,3b, and SS? How dare Cincinnati succeed with 3 everyday players below .725OPS? 2b,SS,3b? Most teams will accept (and possibly thrive) having a SS or CF hit .725 (or even a little less) and play good defense (that second part is pretty important). At 2nd base, .750 seems to be about the "average" point. 725 is going to be in that bottom 30-40% of the league. If Scooter can put up a line like Marco Scutaro 300/355/372 (728 OPS), he is probably passable at 2B (lead off possibilities) even with below average D. But not someone who blocks prospects coming up. I'm hopeful he can sustain a line like that in the majors. But as others have mentioned, his minor league numbers dropped with each promotion. Brandon Phillips? He of 92RBI? but only a .717 OPS...I guess he's not worth a roster spot? Not sure if he is having a poor year or just age catching up to him, but the majority of his career was .750-810 OPS. That you like from a 2B. Same with Freese and Fraiser at 3B. If they had a lifetime OPS of 725 (actually 770-780), they wouldn't be starting at 3B for those teams. So, I'm glad to give Scooter (and Kh Davis and Schafer) an extended look this year to see if he can actually stick. That would be a welcome outcome of this dismal year. (Why not the same with our SPs???) But I'm not going to bet money on him, though.
  14. If you use ERA, the line between a #1 and a #2 is roughly 3.00 (when I drop the minimum IP to 80, the #32 ranked pitcher in ERA is Gaudin at 3.06), and between a #2 and a #3 is roughly 3.75. An era of 4.50 is a low #3/high #4. This is what I was thinking. We forget how long its been since we have really had a #5 pitcher (before this year at least). Maybe Jungmann is the 5th best pitcher on a WS team, but I think he will be better than a #5 overall. I would bet around a 4 ERA, making him a #3. Still not that is really great for your #2 prospect, but it sounds like Brad's list is a mix of ceiling and readiness. I think the write-up for D’ Vontrey Richardson was off the mark, though (no offense). He didn't start where he left off... When he left, his prospect rankings were 100% due to tools; No production. I think he took the year off, got his head straight, and realized he really wanted to play. Now I think we are seeing a driven version of the D'Vo we had before. He started off 3 "notches" above where he was playing before. Good for him (and us). In a year, when the higher ceiling players in the lower minors move up a bit more, plus adding another draft - with high picks, the system won't look so bad. As a small market team, this is the game we need to play; build up a big wave of prospects (ala Hardy, Fielder, Weeks, Braun) and use trades to augment that group (CC, Grienke, Marcum). That unfortunately, empties the cupboard where you need to build back up again. Perhaps DM could be doing a better job of selling off (although IMO, no one was buying this year). But if we want to see the playoffs or WS, we will see some variant of this over and over.
  15. Was it that rotten Peanut Inning again?
  16. There is a strong appeal to stacking the OF with plus defenders who can also hit. I'm pretty sure this is the understatement of the year. But the problem is that we don't really have many (if any) of those. At LF, you really want to target guys that can reach 950 and maybe minimum 850 OPS (I'm just spit-balling ideal target numbers here; Much lower than that you probably want to replace if possible). At RF, you normally need a bit better defender, so looking at 900 and minimum 800 OPS. At CF, its much more difficult, so you look for 800 and deal with 700. At 1B, you look for a 850-1000 OPS type bat Braun - typical 900-950 OPS, servicable defender. Gomez - at 850 this year in a career year, GG defender Aoki - at 750 in 1.5 years. Seems like a good defender. Gindl - Perhaps 750-800 OPS, decent defender in LF/RF. Could be Aoki type player in RF. Kh Davis - Perhaps 750-950 OPS, serviceable LFer only. Schafer - Perhaps 650-750 OPS, good defender D'Vo - Hard to tell, but probably maxed out at 800-850 with excellent defense. Roache - Could be a Braunlike (hitting and defending) in LF (or maybe Adam Dunn). Taylor - A long way away, but seems like he could be 850-900 OPS and excellent defense. So of those guys, really only Braun, Davis and Roache could hit well enough to stick at 1B. Braun, Davis, Roache, and maybe Gindl fit well at the corner OFers (yes, at this point, Aoki is replaceable). D'Vo and Taylor's bats might play at RF, but probably would be a waste of their defense rather than playing CF. I'll also add that my goal here is to field an above average team, not compare each player to the league average at that position. Thus my targets are "above average" to "elite" ranges. A RF might be average at 780 OPS (or whatever it is this year), but I want to be better than that.
  17. So the timing of the start of his rehab (July 31st), will prove convenient related to September call-ups should Rogers be OK. I'd wager that isn't a coincidence.
  18. Woodard is a pretty low bar for "Awesome". Don August was inbetween them (both in time and rookie year results). My first MLB game was Don August beating Roger Clemens. My memory says it was August's rookie year. Baseball references says it was his sophmore season. I'm pretty sure I'm right...
  19. Plus, when was the last time we had a pitcher (besides Fiers) have an awesome debut? Cal Eldred?
  20. I thought Richardson retired from baseball? Yes, he did last spring, but came back this year as MH mentioned. A positive surprise for all.
  21. Actually, last year's was pretty close... http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?p=800544#p800544
  22. One thing I look forward to once the short-season leagues start is the sunset photos that always come from Helena. [sarcasm]I swear someone took that picture 5 years ago and they keep using the same one![/sarcasm] Granted, this last week has produced some awesome sunsets over the Mississippi river, so I would assume they have had their share, too.
  23. [sarcasm]Its got to be a sign that Henderson or Axford will be traded...[/sarcasm]
  24. Ok, so I have to pay more attention...
