  1. Showcased perfectly by Rafael Palmeiro who won it in 1997 and 1998 while playing firstbase, and then won it in 1999 playing DH.
  2. It shouldn't but everyone knows it does. It's not really an award for the best defenders in the league, it's an award for a good defender out of the top hitters at that position. Gold Gloves are a joke.
  3. [halfblue]Well he certainly has the offensive numbers to qualify[/halfblue]
  4. I'm rooting for the Phillies to win the East so Geoff can finally get to the playoffs. That'd really suck for him if we make it the year after we let him go.
  5. Braun's buddy! But really, no I'm not interested.
  6. Add Villanueva to that list for me. Like Ry said, I think Suppan is the 7th best starter on the staff. 8th if you count Yo. I've wanted Suppan out of the rotation since the allstar break last year. Really sucks that we spent so much money on him. That's why you can't go after mid level pitchers in free agency, and another reason why I think we need to lock up one of Sheets or Sabathia.
  7. Last year early in the season they did this. ESPN loved the Brewers pre allstar break 2007.
  8. I posted this in the Halladay thread: "Yeah, I'm a big supporter of the "screw the future this is the year" mentality. We may never have a better shot at the World Series than we do this year, and certainly not within the next few years. What we have is a very good start, but with Halladay we'd become the favorites to win. Not only that but hw's locked up through 2010. If we're losing Sheets and Sabathia in the offseason that would do a lot to ease the pain. If we could get him without giving up Gamel, Jeffress, or anything on our major league roster (exception being if they want Suppan, McClung, Bush, or maybe Weeks) then go for it. I'd like to keep Escobar as well, but if he's what it'd take to get Halladay then so be it. Can you imagine going into a 7 game series with this rotation: Game 1: CC Sabathia Game 2: Ben Sheets Game 3: Roy Halladay Game 4: Manny Parra Game 5: CC Sabathia Game 6: Ben Sheets Game 7: Roy Halladay "

  10. So all you watching the game had no reaction when you saw he homered? I'm sure most celebrated more than Braun did
  11. I just saw it again on ESPN, and while it was a little much I liked it.
  12. As much as I like Escobar if we could get Halladay this year for him (plus others) that'd be crazy. Having Sabathia, Sheets, and Halladay in the same rotation would be amazing. That'd really hide our crappy bullpen too as all go very deep into games. 13 complete games between the three of them. Of course there's no chance of that happening, but wow.
  13. Really? What do you have against Chad Moeller? He wasn't good, but it wasn't his fault he was the best option we had. I have a nice memory of him since I was at the game when he hit for the cycle.
  14. It's all in here. http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=14256?page=1
  15. I had said that all last season, all offseason, and the beginning of this season that Bill Hall would be back and we shouldn't trade him. Then about a month and a half ago I gave up on him. Poor timing on my part.
  16. But his rookie season he had 28. I don't see why you would go from the first time they saw action instead of their rookie seasons.
  17. I was watching too and that didn't even cross my mind. Good call. Try sending an Email and hope they read it.
  18. With Escobar working his way through the minor leagues this is a problem we will soon be faced with. Certainly not a bad problem to have, but it's something that will need to be resolved. So, what do you think we should do with this situation? There seems to be a feeling that Escobar will definitely take over at shortstop, but do we really want to get rid of JJ? Last year he posted a .277 avg, .323 OBP, 26 HRs, and 80 RBI. This year he's on pace for a .294 avg, .361 OBP, 21 HRs, and 71 RBI. That's some good offensive production and he's solid defensively. What do we do with him? Do we trade him off? Do we keep him at short and Escobar at 2nd, tradingWeeks? Would he accept a position change to third base?
  19. I have always liked Bill Hall as a person and teammate. I think he handled the situation very well. The fans do not owe him an appology at all though. Since signing what was then the largest contract for a postion player in Brewers history he hasn't lived up to expectations on the field. I give him a bit of a break because we did kind of screw him over by playing him at three different positions in three years, but his bat hadn't been what was expected. Now if he continues his comback and starts hitting again he'll move back to a fan favorite. Billy is a very likeable player, but you can't expect a warm response when there's no production to go with it.
  20. Assuming he's completely ready to pitch... ...Absolutely not. He has no prior closing experience. There are intangibles a closer needs to have that you can't pick up in a week. The mentality you need to have as a closer is much different than that of a starting pitcher or even other relievers. If you don't have that or lose that it doesn't matter how good your stuff is you won't be effective (Gagne and Turnbow are kind of examples here). Also then that could affect him when he goes back to the rotation next year. There's too much of a risk, and I don't think he'd be better than any of the options in our bullpen. If he's truely ready to pitch this year I'd take him back in our bullpen, but not as a closer. As a middle reliever or even setup man in the 8th inning he could be a big help in our pen, but leave the closing to Torres.
  21. I was quite surprised to see Jeffress but not Gamel or La Porta.
  22. We should start Bush instead so we can keep the streak alive
  23. I wasn't aware there was a kids/senior price.
  24. At best he keeps up his average and OBP and is a good leadoff hitter for us. At worst he's a left handed bat off the bench. What's not to like?
