  1. Was anyone else extremely frustated when we were playing the shift and they hit a slow bouncer to the same side as the shift and the ball still got through easily? Neither Betancourt or Weeks were able to get within 5 feet of it..even though they were playing a shift. It looked like Betancourt moved 1 step. That was a key "hit" that allowed 2 runs.
  2. It is tough to have so much money tied up in terrible defenders. If Prince loses his hitting ability and turns into only an above average hitter..he has nothing else to fall back on that provides any value at the major league level.
  3. Well if it wasn't obvious before we are for the most part below average to terrible defensively at almost every position (except center field when Ron actually plays our 2 center fielders)...especially now with Weeks not 100%. I don't know what happened to Hart..but he is not even close to as fast as he used to be. I feel bad for our pitchers...both game 3 and 5 of this series our pitchers numbers would have looked significantly better with just an average defense.
  4. I believe because Kotsay did not make the play a normal centerfielder would have (including Nyjer), we let up 3 extra runs. His offense gave us 1 extra run. Who knows if Nyjer would have given us any offensive production if he was in the game...but even if he didn't..I do believe if Nyjer was in we would have only let up 1 run in that game (that is obviously assuming our pitchers pitch just as good after the 1st inning). He didn't specifically win or lose the game for us as the game could have ended differently if we had a major league caliber outfield in there, but Kotsay had a significantly negative impact on the result of the game.
  5. That button should have been pushed much sooner.
  6. Ryan Braun or Matt Kemp are the 2 best hitters in the game. Pujols is right behind them though.
  7. If it were a guarantee that pitching at home would guarantee a brewer victory, pitching him in game 6 would be the obvious choice. The fact is, Greinke pitching at home is FAR from a guaranteed victory so waiting to pitch him in game 6 does not make sense. Pitching Greinke in game 5 gives the brewers the best odds to win the series and set us up for the next series if we are lucky enough to get there. That said, Ron has not always gone with the option that gives the team the best chance to win (starting a right fielder in center field), so who knows what he will do.
  8. It may not have cost us the game, but putting him in center cost us 3 runs in a game we lost by 1. You could argue it cost us 2 runs as Kotsay hit a solo homerun, but he could have hit the solo homerun playing right field as well.
  9. Yo doesn't have his best stuff but is pitching good today. With a normal outfield, he would have only let up 1 run and have about 20 less pitches thrown.
  10. The results on the field in anygame do not matter in terms of whether or not a managerial decision was a good one. The fact is playing Kotsay in center field will more often than not be worse for the team than our other 2 options. That is the issue most people have.
  11. Gomez probably wouldn't have got to the Pujols hit just because he plays shallower than Kotsay and it was hit hard. Gomez would have made the blooper look routine. There is also no excuse for Hart not catching that ball.
  12. I never said anything about if he took the 1st pitch he would then take the slider. If he walked the bases would have been loaded. If he didn't chase the terrible pitching the dirt 3-1 the bases would have been loaded with Marcum up. Obviously Marcum could have hit into the double play..but he could have also had a hit as well.
  13. Hart has much more power than Lucroy..I will take my chances anyday with the bases loaded over Lucroy with a guy on 1st and 2nd.
  14. Terrible decision to go up there hacking 3-0, I don't care if the pitcher is batting behind you. Then to compound the problem chasing a 3-1 slider in the dirt makes it even worse.
  15. Unless Marcum is hurt it would be a terrible decision to not start him in game 2.
  16. The reason Braun sat on Monday had nothing to do with the batting title, so I have no idea why that is being brought up. Completely different reasons. Again, If Braun had a lead going into today where Reyes would have had to go 3-4 or 4-4, he would not have sat today with home field on the line.
  17. Sorry, but Braun would have not sat today with home field on the line.
  18. I am not extrapolating the statistics, but you missed my point. My point is hitting 111 RBI's in 149 games (what Braun did) is more valuable than hitting 111 RBI's in 161 games (the amount of games Fielder has played). So to simply say Fielder has hit 9 more RBI than Braun isn ot telling the entire story. You are correct though, the games Braun did not play in he didn't have any value. Braun did have opportunities as well for RBI's have never said otherwise. That said, he did not have as many as Fielder. Also, you again are not including base running, where there is a significant difference. I am not saying Prince didn't have a great year, he did. But IMO Braun has the edge this year. Obviously the walks he took contributed to the RBI totals of McGehee and Betancourt, but Braun's .400 OBP this year also significantly helped those totals as well. I would say even more than Prince considering how much better Braun is on the bases.
  19. The argument can be worked the other way as well. You could argue Braun would have more walks if teams were not worried about Prince behind him...which would increase his OBP. Also, Fielder has had the benefit of having a guy with a .400 OBP hitting in front of him. He has had more RBI opportunities than Braun has had. Also as you pointed out, Braun has played a dozen less games than Fielder. If Braun played an equal amount of games...IMO the RBI totals would be pretty even. We are also not even taking into account on the bases paths here. Fielder needs to be pushed around the bases. While Braun is not an excellent base runner, he does have 30+ steals and has stolen bases at a very high %. He is also much more likely to score from 2nd on a simple base hit to the outfield.
  20. Some of you are so negative. Yes, there are players on the team who are below average. Yes, some of them are struggling. All teams have that. A lot of people think Yuni is a giant liability and is the worst player in baseball, RR is a terrible rookie manager, McGehee is terrible and Melvin is a headcase for not replacing him with Green, Counsell should have been long gone, Wolf needs to grow up and allow Lucroy catch him against lefties, etc. We have the 4th best record in baseball and we have are 2 games away from having the 2nd best...despite having pretty significant injuries on the year. Grienke was out for awhile and majorly set back because of his injury, Hart was out for awhile, Weeks will be out a month, Gomez will be out for a month plus. Obviously some things are going right..but people are so focused on the negative. Everyone wants to play the game on paper...well in reality it does not work like that. Yes, Yuni is a bad SS, McGehee has been struggling, Counsell has looked lost...that does not mean the solutions are as easy as everyone makes it. Enjoy the ride and stop being so negative.
  21. If the games were played on paper and strictly looking at matchups and stats, then yes...it would bother me that Kottaras starts against lefties with Wolf pitching as that would statistically give us a worse offensive lineup. Since the games are not played on paper and the human element is involved, nobody can say playing Lucroy instead of Kottaras would give us a better chance to win. If Wolf had an ERA closer to 4.50, then I would be bothered by it. Considering he is pitching as well as he has been, i have no idea why it would bother people.
  22. I have read that entire thing already..that does not tell me enough to be confident in the statistic to call him easily the worst.
  23. I realize all the defensive stats point to him being very bad. I question how accurate all those stats are. I am not saying they are accurate or not...I guess I am just a person that would prefer to actually analyze the data before running with it and making extreme statements. If you don't know what the context is behind a statistic..it means little. As I said, it is a big red flag to me when the correlation from year to year is only 0.5.
  24. No, I am not saying not to use the statistics. Have never said that. I am saying don't use them to make such definite and extreme statements. I guess I don't understand how a defensive stat can have a year to year correlation so low..when in my opinion defense is more consitent than offense. Everyone knows how streaky offense is...it raises a big red flag to me when a defensive statistic has half the correlation of OPS. Again, I agree Yuni is bad defensively. I just don't believe the defensive metrics people use allow one to make claims like he is easily the worst defender in the league, etc.
  25. I know it is not publicly available. Just pointing out that a baseball team that spends hundereds of millions of dollars just might have access to that or other defensive metrics that are not free and available to everyone. Now, I agree that Yuni is bad defensively for a SS, but I have a hard time buying into the ones you are using to make such definite claims considering the year-to-year correlation is only 0.5 and about half of OPS.
