  1. From the same newspaper that gave us more than one plagiarist in the last decade alone?!Plagiarism isn't exactly objective... The idea that the reporters in this case hold the Red Sox in high contempt enough to risk their own reputation is far-fetched and ludicrous. It's not as if there's no precedent in the matter.
  2. Objective journalism surely transcends sports rivalries. This isn't the NY Post you're talking about here.
  3. Are the occupants of the car peering through your windows, Diskono?
  4. Pogo's right. Mark's only barely thrown 40 innings this year. I'm thrilled for his success, but he's generally gone through the order more than 1 time only just recently. That's going to prop up his numbers a bit. I completely understand the direction the Brewers' medical staff has taken with Rogers this year, but hopefully he'll get the opportunity to pitch untethered next year. We can certainly be encouraged by the radar readings though.
  5. You are in luck dude... http://forum.brewerfan.net/search.php?keywords=555877/t/Brewer-pitchers-vs-Pitchers-Batting.html#reply-555877
  6. Good lord, if this not-yet-over thrashing from the worst team in the league (not to overlook giving up grand slams to the same player in back to back innings) isn't the low point of the season, wake me up next April...
  7. Opposing pitchers are hitting .123/.163/.214 (AVG/OBP/SLG) off the Brewers this year. Conversely, the Brewers pitchers are batting .153/.212 /.200, so they're getting on more often but hitting with less power. EDIT: just wanted to add that the opposing pitchers sOPS+ (the OPS+ relative to the split) is 116, so the Brewers are doing worse than average against opposing pitchers. But on the bright side, the Brewers Pitchers at bat have an sOPS+ of 136.
  8. I think a lot of this over-use is due to how good of a hitter Gallardo is. I imagine there have been quite a few times like tonight where Gallardo would not have been sent to bat late in the game if he hit more like Sheets. Of course the only way this is still defensible is if you really believe he's a better option at the plate than the PH's on the bench. With Corey Hart available to PH this evening, I don't see any evidence to that opinion even if you inflate Gallardo's results at the plate.
  9. Yeah, I was referring to AZ, not FL.
  10. This issue just doesn't touch spring training but rookie ball as well. Is it beneficial for the Baby Brewers to endure heat-stroke capable temperatures throughout the summer? Is it a 'whatever doesn't kill ya makes ya stronger' type situation, or would it be better for player development if the training and teaching were in more habitable temperatures?
  11. Seidel, who is rated as the #18 prospect in the Milwaukee system, was a 16th round pick of the Brewers in the 2006 draft out of UW-La Crosse Seidel was drafted out of Central High School in La Crosse, not UW-L. Makes a huge difference for a guy who's 21 in single-A vs. 24 if he had gone to college.
  12. Essentially a Jack Wilson clone with less power. Awesome. Huntington couldn't lock up Jack Wilson with an extension so he goes out and acquires his non-union, Mexican (okay, Venezuelan) equivalent. Life imitates art.

  14. Bringing lawyers into it just validates the legitimacy of the video. Poor move on her part and the only thing you could possibly fault her for here. I'd say denying to maintain you're privacy is worth much more than any settlement she'd get from the unconscionable offenders.
  15. I'd be willing to bet that approximately 15% of Brewer fans know who Zach Braddock is and approximatley 60 - 70% of those people post on this board. Braddock has already been mentioned this year by TH, so I'm not buying that. Even if this remained unreported due to space limitations, why not just post it in the blog? The optimist in me sees the lack of "official" news on this issue as a sign that the Brewers see this as no big deal, but the cynic in me just points to Haudricourt's established track record of lackluster reporting on all things minor league.
  16. I like Cole Gillespie, but he wasn't displacing Hart (via moving Braun to RF) until he fully proves himself in AAA, if ever. Since that didn't happen this year for one reason or another, you're looking at a 26 year old repeating AAA next year. I'd take him as a 4th/5th OF over a $2M veteran though. That's where his value lies. Also, due to his plate discipline, Gillespie was a much safer (and arguably better) prospect than Katin.
  17. On an aside, people rip on TH a lot. But I've always enjoyed his work. He also responded to my email question within a day. (His first response) And then asked Gord about about the problem - and emailed me a second time. I can't imagine what more you would ask of a beat writer. How about actually reporting the news to the public, instead of solely in your personal correspondence. That, and people skills. Bad news on the shoulder. Hopefully rest will do it some good.
  18. Right on. Just because we have Craig Counsell available at 2B (especially now that Gamel's getting his requisite ABs at Nashville) doesn't make the Lopez acquisition redundant. Counsell is pushing 39 years of age and had been playing above his head for May/June before coming back to earth in July. I don't know how we could reasonably expect anyhing better than Counsell's .653 OPS from July going forward without a copious and appropriate amount of rest to keep him fresh. He's a bit player and not to be overused.
  19. You're right Jim, I forgot about the act of finality the announcement of the actual suspension is. I don't think I've ever heard of any of these official announcements being redacted. If the info is out, it appears that any and all appeals on the players behalf are over with. Adams has already out-performed Josh Murray though. The only way he can surpass him if he somehow brings others down with him.
  20. Probably would be wise to withhold judgment until the facts are out. Hopefully this will be a turning point in his career.
  21. Unfair comparison. Deivi Cruz was a pure hacker who never had a OPB at league average or a BB% within 5 points of the league average. Hall increased his BB/rate (and was above the league average in OBP in '05/'06) every year until leveling off after his '07 position switch and flashed much more power, too.
  22. Just wondered what everyone's opinion is on Jonathon Lucroy's performance this year. He's shown outstanding patience and plate discipline this year (42:54 K/BB ratio), but his overall .744 OPS is being dragged down by his Kendall-like split of .557 at home. (He's at .901 on the road). His luck-neutralized OPS is .833, FWIW. Does his solid work both at the plate and behind it make Salome one-sided skillset expendable? They can't both be in AAA next year. What's the plan?
  23. Man, I've been re-excited about Rogers ever since he got on the field this year. I remember a couple of brief glimpses of him turning the corner (high Ks/low BBs in a few starts)just prior to he went down in '06. While he's had a few rough outings lately, it really seems like he's taken to the idea of 'pitching' rather than 'throwing' this time around. Hopefully he'll continue to lower that walk rate and advance through the system.
  24. Bam! Looks like they were at 9% last year, which was near the bottom of the league, but also had the second fewest opportunities too.
