  1. They're kitchen twins, except yours is mine (well, not that they're remotely ours) on steroids. The kitchen in my photo literally ends at the end of the fridge/stove. I pity the poor old lady sent to slave away in that for 50 years.
  2. I hear John Goodman will be playing Jeremy Brown.
  3. The one thing that I miss about Charter was their actual Moxi box DVR Oh man that box is to die for! Better than Tivo. Going from that to the piece of crap TW carries was a major letdown. TW's DVR was so clunky I didn't even think it was worth the $10 monthly fee so I got rid of it.
  4. It should have a built-in ATSC tuner, so there's no need for the box. You can plug in an antenna and then scan to get channels. Or you can plug in to a cable jack (if that's an option) and scan from there.
  5. Why would you be able to claim a house that you bought in 2009 on your 2008 tax return? Because the IRS says you can: Link You're basically eligible if you purchased your main home located in the United States after April 8, 2008 and before July 1, 2009, you did not own any other main home during the 3-year period ending on the date of purchase and your Adjusted Gross Income is less than $95,000 (or $170,000 if married filing jointly). I e-filed through irs.gov for Federal, choosing the 'without tax software' option (it's free), and did the entering-the-numbers-deal for the state of Wisconsin on their website.
  6. In the process of buying last year, I was shown a 3BR Ranch house with a 3x5 kitchen. If the fridge was open or the oven door down, you could not enter the room. Needless to say, both of them could not be open simultaneously. I believe the house is still on the market now at 75% of it's previously overpriced listing. Maybe it'll still be listed for when my baby is looking to buy. EDIT: found a picture on shorewest.com Note the edge of the stove peeking out in the bottom corner. Tricky realtor photography. Between the counters, the kitchen is about as wide as a standard sink plus an extra six inches on each side. http://www.redata.com/100021/shorew/stills/1054247fx.jpg
  7. I was referring to the average football fan, hence the clumsily-stated reference to "average people who watch football". Do you really think said group really gives a crap about N-Sync, Britney Spears, and Janet Jackson (and an over-the-hill Aerosmith for anything other than pure nostalgia purposes)? I don't think teenage girls were the right demographic the NFL should have been targeting.
  8. I watched the interview Springsteen did with Bob Costas prior to the game. He was either extremely nervous or extremely insane, either way it was bizarre. I'm not a huge Springsteen fan so I found all the fanfare to be a bit contrived, but I prefer him immensely over the Britney Spears/N-Sync/Aerosmith crap-collage or Janet Jackson w/ Justin Timberlake shows or the semi-recent past. (Not sure why the NFL thought that the average people who watch football would give a crap about those acts.) With that in mind, it was a solid choice and a solid performance, but I'd much rather see a good old fashioned marching band be given the airtime. There would probably be less damage done to the field if that were the case and infinitely less cliched pyrotechnics. EDIT: spelling
  9. There's a lag on your plasma? That's typically a problem associated with LCD televsions, not Plasmas. I'm not remotely familiar with GH, so I'll bow out now.
  10. I second this advice, with the caveat to be careful not to accidentally or purposefully unplug the cord while you're powered up. (I accidentally get my cord disconnected about once a week or so.) Since there would be no battery back-up, you'd lose any unsaved data. Not a big deal if you're just surfing the net, though. I guess you could use the old battery as a back-up in the computer and keep the new battery on hand for actual battery use for the best of both worlds.
  11. I think the funniest thing for me last night, outside of Oscar popping down through the ceiling, was Kevin looting the vending machine during the faux-fire. That entire scene was just pure gold.
  12. After four years, laptop batteries not going to be too potent. My battery life went from 5 hours to about 90 minutes after 2 years of standard use. It didn't help that I didn't always draw out the batter life when using, but that seems to be normal.
  13. You mean Darnell... Actually, you mean Darryl. I thought the Jack Black/Jessica Alba/Cloris Leachman cameos was a nice dig at the "WE GOT ALL THE BEST STARS!" tradition of the post Super Bowl shows. Actually integrating them into the office environment would have been a bit antithetical to the show. Remember, this isn't your parents sitcom. Anyways, great sight gags in the cold open. This episode was a classic.
  14. 88.9 FM, Radio Milwaukee!
  15. Netflix does have stand-alone streaming options, just not at the high-def level yet.
  16. Ahh, to have disposable income! I considered going to both of those other shows (and Bon Iver back in August) but having a baby and buying a house severely limits the amount of fun I'm allowed to have. (Not that I don't tremendously enjoy both, though.) I agree that Evil Urges isn't a bad record by any means, it just fell short of my lofty expectations. The last half of the disc (from "Librarian" on) is killer though.
  17. I refuse to acknowledge the digital era in which we live.
  18. Holy crap.. another Sigur Ros fan? Who woulda thunk! We're out there, just gotta know where to look. But I can count the number of people I know personally who are fans on one hand. My Morning Jacket "Thank You Too" I was kind of tepidly into MMJ after 'It Still Moves' but was completely blown away by 'Z'. 'Evil Urges' me was a step backwards, and to me this song was easily my least favorite of the album. It's just so weirdly out of character for the band to the point where it really affected my enjoyment of the disc. They still put on a legendary live show regardless of what I think of some of the source material and their October 3rd show at the Riverside in Milwaukee was probably the highlight of my concert-going life. By the way, "Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Pt. 2" all the way, baby! Bon Iver, For Emma, Forever Ago I forgot this on my list. I almost find it hard to imagine that someone from Wisconsin, and I say this lovingly of the area, created this beauty. Almost makes me suspicious! An awesome release, though. Definitely top 5 on my list. EDIT: I cited MMJ's "I'm Amazed" as a crappy song, and after further review, it's tipped the scales towards 'tolerable'. I still stand by my assessment of "Thank You Too".
  19. I only feel comfortable judging the albums I owned, and my buying power was severely limited this year due to several life changes, so here is my ranking of all the new music I bought in 2008: 01. TV on the Radio - Dear Science (proved to be worthy of my high expectations) 02. Radiohead - In Rainbows (does the Jan 1st. physical release date count as 2008?) 03. Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes (Band of Horses + Brian Wilson = winner) 04. Death Cab for Cutie - Narrow Stairs (makes up for the atrocity that was 'Plans') 05. Black Keys - Attack & Release (my first delve into them, solid release.) 06. Mars Volta - Bedlam in Goliath (sprawling and crazy, but worth the effort) 07. Sigur Rós - Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaus (another fine release from them) 08. My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges (edit out the tripe in the middle and just go with songs 1-3 and 7-13 and this is my winner) 09. Beck - Modern Guilt (I take Beck for granted, but this one was bit uninspiring for me) 10. Nine Inch Nails - The Slip (haven't taken the time to listen to it yet, so I reserve judgment)
  20. I really enjoyed this snowstorm. Spoken like a true non-shoveler. I'm beat after shoveling only a third of my driveway, but I will admit it was impressive, though.
  21. I bought a Gateway Laptop against my better judgment in the fall of 2004 that literally fell apart after 2 years of use. It's still functional as a computer, but I will never buy Gateway again. Their quality has fallen dramatically since the mid-90s.
  22. I didn't recall myself, so here's a refresher for the both of us: http://www.tech-recipes.c...2_bit_version_x64_vs_x86/
  23. 32-bit Vista only recognizes a little over 3 of the 4 GB. 64-bit Vista will see the whole enchilada.
  24. If you get 1GB of memory, the factory will install two 512 MB modules as a cost saving measure. If you want to upgrade the memory yourself, that's fine and dandy but on the Dell laptops I'm familiar with, the second memory socket is located underneath the keyboard. It's a bit more complex than just using a screwdriver, but not overly so. That might be something you'd want to keep in mind when determining the memory installed from the factory if you're not too hardware savvy. But even then, it's fairly doable for a novice.
