  1. Shouse is nothing more than a left-hand specialist. He should not be facing righties.
  2. Let's not blow another 9th inning 5-run lead for Parra here.
  3. I'm not seeing the downside of adding a guy with a .396 OBP versus righties (.385 overall) to go with a guy who's carrying a .322 OBP yet holds a .380 OBP vs. lefties. That's a solid .380 / .396 on base platoon you've got there for a couple of guys you project as 24th, 25th men at best on a major league roster right now.
  4. Latest from Tom H. sounds like it's Durham... http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/07/19/i-m-hearing-durham-s-name.aspx
  5. Brad Nelson is playing for Nashville right now...started and hasn't been removed from the game. I think that report is bogus.
  6. Mets Cubs DBacks Phillies (WC) Ned Yost will never manage a team to the playoffs unless given an absolutely dominant bullpen. He abuses them too early in the season not to ultimately pay for it every second half.
  7. Now it would be nice if the friggin Giants could hold a 3-run lead in the ninth vs. the Scrubs. They're doing their best to try and blow it.
  8. I'm not liking the idea of a squeeze play. A failed bunt would run us right out of the inning.
  9. You have to win now. If not, you should all be forced to travel for road games via bus.
  10. This offense is putrid. Hall, Cameron, Kendall, pitcher, Weeks consecutively...ouch. And if the Brewers don't score in the 9th, (and why would they with who's due up) then the game is left in the hands of our collapsing bullpen. Not feeling very confident right now.
  11. I haven't gone through and read every post in this thread, but I can't help but feel as though Pedro took the words right out of my mouth. I just don't think the Brewers will get it done. I grew tired of this lineup's incredible inconsistency long ago. The real problem with this team will prove to be the unwillingness to replace a player like Weeks. If they're serious about going for it this year, either Brian Roberts or Ray Durham will be playing 2nd base by the end of the month. I pick on Weeks because he's currently the weakest link in this offense, imo. There are others who need to pick it up or be replaced as well. One thing Weeks has proven is that when he gets on base he scores. The team acts as though he has some mythical presence which means whenever Rickie Weeks is on base he has this magical ability to make the hitters behind him drive him in. Did they ever stop to consider that having a player who gets on base more might mean they get even more run-scoring out of the leadoff? As I said in the vent thread, good teams don't struggle this often against bad pitchers.
  12. This team is going nowhere until they start learning how to hit pitchers the likes of Glendon Rusch. Good teams do not struggle this often against the very worst in the game.
  13. Bought 3 tickets as soon as the trade was announced.
  14. Just want to clear up something from earlier today... Steve Stone did in fact say on 670 the Score in Chicago that the PTBNL was JJ Hardy. The person who heard that on the radio was not mistaken. Stone actually had the hosts specualting that it must mean that Hardy has to play for the Brewers through the end of the year and then report to Cleveland. Mind you Steve Stone is considered a god down there for his baseball expertise. And the two hosts of this particular show are sportswriters for the Sun Times. All 3 should have known better. I didn't know whether to be embarrassed for them or feel sorry for them. The sad thing is I'm sure 90% of Chicago fans believed it. Stone went on to point out that Hardy's inclusion meant the Brewers paid dearly for this acquistion. I'm 100% positive this was Stone's way of covering his butt for spending all week trying to convince Cubs fans that they were the odds on favorite to land Sabathia. This morning was simply a case of trying to inflate the value the Crew gave up to make it look like the Cubs would've gotten CC had the Brewers not gone off their rocker. People have said that the reaction of Cubs nation indicates that they still are not at all worried about Milwaukee. Baloney! I was down in Chicago from 8 AM until 3 PM and as of the moment I stopped listening to the radio, both of their two main sports radio stations were still in non-stop coverage of this trade. Heck, even 540 AM out of Waukesha had a segment about Favre at one point. You don't spend 10 hours talking about a division rivals' transaction if it doesn't scare the crap out of you.
  15. It would be the irony of all ironies if somehow Weaver outpitched Sabathia the rest of the way after the Brewers cut him loose and then he replaces our big acquisition in the Cleveland rotation. Seriously, I can see it winding up in Wikipedia next to the word "irony" if that were to transpire. :shudder:
  16. Is it possible that the Brewers got the best hitter in this deal as well? Afterall, C.C.'s career batting line in the majors of .300 avg .792 ops will not be easy to top for LaPorta who hasn't even been past AA yet. In all seriousness, I hope LaPorta has an outstanding career for the Indians.
  17. Hmmm...Brian Roberts bats LH. Of course that's because he's a switch hitter, so he bats both. Another switch hitter who is strong from the left side is Ray Durham. And Brian Giles would be a heck of a LH bat if we went the OF route.
  18. Prospects are Power! So says Ken Rosenthal... http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8319678/Savvy-Brewers-turn-prospects-into-ace-Sabathia
  19. Keith Law think the Brewers have the best pitcher in the NL. Here's the free part of his insider article... http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3475815&name=law_keith&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fespn%2fblog%2findex%3fentryID%3d3475815%26name%3dlaw_keith The part I liked most was this...
  20. Just my speculation. But I've heard the topic raised before in various places. Also, it makes logical sense. The team wants to put out the best possible defense. Considering how untouchable Escobar apparently is, you keep his gold glove calibur glove at short. He's got much better range than Hardy. Moving Escobar to 3rd would be a waste.
  21. I think a move to the OF for Gamel will follow shortly. And I think JJ Hardy will be the Brewers 3rd baseman next year. 2009 C- Kendall 1B- Fielder 2B- Weeks SS- Escobar 3B- Hardy OF- Braun OF- Hart OF- Gamel Barring trades of course.
