  1. I find it hard to believe that Olney can keep a straight face while trying to sell the quantity over quality argument as to how Philly might trump the Brewers offer.
  2. That's absurd. This reeks of an owner stepping in thinking the team should get the moon for a player they're about to lose for draft picks. If Cleveland doesn't deal Sabathia, they have about a 1 in a 100 chance of drafting 2 players that would climb to LaPorta and Green's status with those two picks. We're talking about a mid to late 1st round pick and a sandwich pick. LaPorta was drafted what, 7th overall? And what's the success rate of 1st round picks anyway? These guys have already progressed further than most draft picks. And the Brewers are adding a third prospect as well. Gimme a break Cleveland. Now they're saying Philly is the #2 contender? But Philly's offer would center around multiple players currently in A ball. Hello?!?!? Isn't the Brewers offer also multiple A ball players, but also a highly ranked AA player? What am I missing here? Where is a player anywhere near LaPorta's calibur gonna come from on the Philly end?
  3. Let me get this straight. The Dodgers are throwing a package of prospects out there for Jack Wilson, some of whom are also out there for Sabathia? Then why the heck doesn't Melvin trade Hardy, far superior to Wilson to the Dodgers for Broxton, and leave ourselves as the only realistic team for Cleveland to trade C.C. to? It's too easy. We get our bullpen arm, make room for Escobar, and leave Cleveland no other option than to pull the trigger on the LaPorta deal.
  4. The shine is already somewhat off some of those Dodger prospects. The best player being offered from either the Dodgers or Brewers is easily LaPorta. That should make this a no-brainer for Cleveland. Call their bluff, Doug. If they demand more, tell 'em you're walking. They'd be fools not to come away with LaPorta.
  5. Quick vent... The fact that Cleveland hasn't accepted an offer of LaPorta + Green + another prospect is pretty whacked. If they think they should get more than that for a rental they'll probably end up either not trading him or wind up with less. If they hang on to CC and take the supplemental picks, they'd be able to draft two players as advanced as LaPorta and Green only in their wettest of dreams. Plus we're throwing in a 3rd player? If LaPorta and Green were added to the 09 draft as they are today, there's no way those two make it to the spots where Cleveland would make those two draft selections. The talk out there of LaPorta + Escobar or Gamel + Green, etc. or no deal is sheer lunacy. I just want this all done...and I want it done now. If Cleveland wants more than what we're offering tell them to take a hike. Frankly, if Sabathia isn't a Brewer by weekend's end then I think the Brewers are better off looking elsewhere. The fact that Cleveland didn't pounce on that offer tells me we're dealing with someone with a deranged sense of the market.
  6. If the Brewers add a SP of Sabathia's calibur or close, then the only thing left to do is trade Weeks for Brian Roberts and you're golden.
  7. Oh and I forgot to add. The fact that I have now gone so far as to think realistically about trading for Sabathia, the chances of it actually happening have been reduced to about 0.05%.
  8. I can see why LaPorta would be going. He's another right-handed power bat. Power from the right side is definitely not something the Brewers lack. And an outfielder at that. Gamel is the keeper here because he bats left-handed, sorely lacking in Milwaukee, and adds a high BA to go with a good amount of power. LaPorta leaving just means that Gamel immediately shifts to the outfield in Hunstville so he can be ready to play the OF in Milwaukee next year. While I would have liked to see a trade for CC, without one of the Hunstville 5, I can see how the Brewers could afford to trade LaPorta and still have plenty of OF candidates for Milwaukee next year. (Gamel, Brantley)
  9. It's just not fair being a fan of this team.
  10. No team's fans should ever be subjected to as many blown games as Brewers' fans have been subjected to the last year and a half.
  11. I hate when we get noticed by ESPN. Without fail it's always followed by a prolonged stretch of losing. I now know that 40-34 and being the current favorites to trade for Sabathia will be our highwater point of the season. Thanks ESPN.
  12. I'm assuming the yahoo who you don't care for is Bill Johnson. That guy has no business being on the radio. A couple weeks ago he was on vacation and it was just Needles and Olson. That was a solid week for the show. I think Johnson is in management at 540, so he just puts himself on the show. A perfect example of his arrogance is when about a month ago he was leading the charge for Yost to be canned, and now he's reverted back to his typical routine of bashing crazy fanatics who will always find some whacky reason to bash Yost. You can tell he thinks very little of the general population. The problem is he somehow has it in his mind that by doing a radio show, he's above the masses.
  13. I see. Apparently though, a pennant race and a slight directly at him doesn't prevent Yost from a beanball war. Injure a player though and it's all under the rug. When LaRussa was screaming at him personally he had no problem throwing at the opponent.
  14. Yes. That's what you do when an opposing player injures one of your own on a dirty play.
  15. If Counsel takes over against righties and bats leadoff, I think it's time to stage a brown paper bag revolt like Bucks fans were driven to this year. Big brown paper bags with "Yosted" in big black letters on them.
  16. Geesh, it sure seems less than satisfying that we let Colorado completely off the hook for one of their players sliding late and putting one of ours on the DL. Hardnosed baseball my rear, that guy's legs didn't make contact with the ground until he was beyond the bag. Since Ned's newest excuse is "WWBCD?", (What Would Bobby Cox Do?) I have to ask...does anyone really think the Braves would have sat there and done nothing? And I wonder how our players feel about the fact that we let the Rockies get away with it. I bet they'll be forced to take matters in their own hands next time, as has been the case in the past.
  17. I think you're being generous with your estimate on the size of that manual. (fixed code --1992)
  18. If some of these fans go a little over the top getting their frustration out on the message board in place of kicking their dog or punching a hole in the wall, I'm all for it.
  19. I don't ever remember seeing a manager who uses so many pitchers unneccessarily. Yost made up his mind that in a game in which the opponent had put up but 1 meager run, he was going to use Villy in the 7th, Mota in the 8th, and Torres in the 9th. Why the heck would you automatically use 4 pitchers including Sheets if it wasn't needed? Does he not grasp the thought that if you commit to using 4 pitchers rather than 2 or 3 you are increasing your odds by a minimum of 33% that one of your picthers will be off his game. Not to mention the fact that when he brings in a reliever who doesn't have it he always leaves the guy in until the entire lead is lost and then some. I would ventyre to say that 99.9% of high school managers would have sent Villanueva back out there in the 8th after his dominant 10 pitch 7th. The man is a complete boob.
  20. There will be people who defend him no matter what. We get it.
  21. Another 3-run lead blown. The most in baseball the last two years. A good reason why...using far more pitchers than needed to wrap up a game with 3+ run lead. As long as that overthinker keeps managing this team, they will continue to blow far more than their expected share of multi-run leads.
  22. This road losing can't be accepted forever either. That 8-1 homestand could eventually prove to do more harm than good if we go right back to our losing ways. You have to think the thought of getting rid of that buffoon was at least creeping into management's brains.
  23. Someone says they have no clue why Ned is brought up. Really? Because like he's done so many times in the past, he uses more arms than he needs to. With every extra pitcher you use, you increase the odds of finding one who isn't on his game that night. Especially in a park where pitchers often have a hard time getting break on their pitches. Villanueva was filthy in the 7th and had an easy inning. No reason on Earth that he shouldn't be back out there in the 8th. Ned was set to use 4 pitchers in a ballgame than in which we had given up 1 run. That's just stupid. Decision making like this is why they don't put winning streaks like this one up very often. And it's why this one is coming to an end. I started cussing the moment I saw Villanueva no longer on the mound and my cussing reached levels never seen before in my household as the inning went on. I've never been more PO'd at Yost.
