  1. Link to follow... http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/04/20/brewers-send-dillon-down.aspx That's right folks...14-man pitching staff
  2. Don't the A's look like they might be in the race for awhile? That's why I excluded them. I haven't paid a whole lot of attention to them but I thought they started off pretty well.
  3. I read elsewhere that Bush was up in the pen warming in the 10th should Gagne have allowed the tying run to score. First of all, is that true? If so that could be a sign that Bush is the new long man. I sure hope so, he's a 2-pitch pitcher best suited for the pen, imo.
  4. And I'm not sure yet that one of those 84-85 mph pitches at the end there wasn't actually a fastball.
  5. Believe me, I'm grasping to some of the encouraging aspects of this situation, such as Sheets demeanor after he came out, the fact that he pitched through it, etc. But I also don't want it to get lost on anyone, the fact that the team knew about the soreness before he made this latest start. And if this injury turns into something serious, someone's head should roll for sending him out there. My fingers are crossed that in a few days this all becomes a non-issue.
  6. If I'm not mistaken, Sheets himself said the soreness dates back to his start in New York. And the media reports say the soreness has persisted since. I'm going to assume they didn't just pull that idea out of thin air.
  7. Realizing that Corey Hart was a better hitter than Bill Hall was far from a snap decision. And last year when the team was desperate in their search for production form the 5-hole, the fine posters here at BF.net realized long before Ned that the man for the job was on the roster all along in the form of Corey Hart. Sidenote: I don't know why some people assume that because someone has a managerial job in major league baseball that he must be some kind of baseball savant or something. My uncle was a very successful major league scout, and shockingly I was able to carry on very intelligent baseball conversation with him. And even more amazingly, we very often held the same viewpoints. He too agreed that Hart was the man to bat 5th long before Ned finally made the realization. Brewer fans can thank him for turning the team on to Vinny Rottino btw. People need to get over the idea that Ned Yost has a better baseball mind than each and every baseball fan. The bottom line is for as much as Ned likes to say the fans don't see what he sees every day, he has a propensity for later making the very same changes the fans have been calling for weeks and months previous. In more cases than not, resulting in positive change. It kind of makes him look like a stubborn tool.
  8. You're not going to get any team to part with a top of the rotation starter anytime soon given it's early and every team still thinks they have a shot. Of the teams most likely to come to the realization that this year won't be their year in a month or two, Texas comes to mind first. I think Kevin Millwood could get moved this year. That's about as best as I think will be made available. Face it, no true aces are likely to be moved, certainly no young ones. And with the wild card too many teams will go into the trade deadline and beyond before they concede this season. Bottom line, you're not going to get someone of Sheets calibur, but you might be able to plug his spot with a 2-3ish calibur starter. Even then the cost might be steep.
  9. I'll tell you one thing...someone's gonna have some major explaining to do if this turns into something serious. They knew about it all week and the soreness never subsided, yet they threw him out there anyway? Then in Ned's postgame yesterday, when asked why he pulled Ben after 5, he says it's because he's not going to take any chances with Benny? Having him go out there with soreness that hasn't gone away all week sounds exactly like taking chances to me.
  10. Now are we supposed to applaud him for making a switch us fans figured out months earlier? I don't know what it is with this guy but every year I hear fans and message boarders screaming for changes that Yost talks down then winds up making weeks or months later. Last year it took him half a season to get Hart in the 5-hole after we screamed it for weeks. So I guess Yost's bone-headedness is becoming less-prolonged. Progress. The real frustrating part is how talks down to fans and acts like he holds this superior baseball knowledge yet winds up making the same changes Brewerfan nation figured out long before.
  11. I'm aware it's a timing mechanism. My point is that it doesn't appear to be working.
  12. I wasn't aware of this. It almost seems ridiculous that he hasn't at least attempted to revert back to his college swing. Do Skaalen or Yost know this. It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't. Heck, it wouldn't surprise me if some Brewer coach taught him the waggle.
  13. I'll probably get hammered for this but to me they look like talented losers. Talent keeps them in games but the losing mentality of this organization is still too much to shake.
  14. The only thing I need to check before calling it a night is what pitcher is slated to look like the next Cy Young against the Brewers tomorrow. It appears as though the Crew will be lucky to limp back home above .500
  15. Even though it's a 1 in 5 chance he gets a hit, it feels like 1 in 100.
  16. I fully expect Counsel to pop up for out #2.
  17. I am sick and tired of hearing that so and so pitcher has some of the best stuff in the league. You'd think the Brewers had faced 14 Cy Young candidates thus far this year. I thought there was a dearth of good pitching in MLB. Not if you happen to tune into a Brewers game and watch them bat. It's not 2004 anymore, and yet it feels the same.
  18. Is there anyone here in the know with regards to the Brewers advance scouting? Watching these two teams play it seems like St. Louis knows how to get our batters out. To the contrary the Brewers don't seem to have a clue how to get Cardinals hitters out. I'm sorry but the Cardinals don't strike me as a team with more talent than the Brewers. But watching these two teams play each other, we look like a high school team. As a whole the Brewers just don't seem to be living up to their talent level.
  19. You're being pretty hard on him...he's actually batting .132
  20. It was like pulling teeth, but it's a win regardless. Nice job Brewers players.
  21. So if Larry K draws up a play for Michael Ruffin to come off a screen and take a 3-pointer with the Bucks down two and 1 second left...and the shot goes in, that's great coaching and the coach should get heaping praise. Cause that's a lot like what Yost just did.
