  1. Man, Hart sure looks good in the 5-hole. I'm glad Yost finally woke up and listened to me. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif Now, if only he'd leave him there.
  2. ...Corey Hart. Ned needs to get Braun back in the 3-hole, Prince cleanup, and Corey Hart is our 5 hitter. Simple as that. There's your R-L-R. Those 3 have been our best players on offense all year long. Has Ned even once had Corey in the 5 hole? (added tag --1992) (updated thread title to make this the new Designated Lineup Thread; see reply #11 below --1992)
  3. Where are the realists? Bravo for having so much optimism in your heart. However, given the weary state of our pitching I can't see the Brewers winning more than 13 out of the last 32. Generously giving them those 13 wins makes them 78-84. That will be a third place finish at best. Cincinatti will finish within a game of the Brewers either a game ahead, behind, or tied with Milwaukee. A fourth place finish is definitely within reason.
  4. Now, even reading the silver lining thread is becoming a huge downer.http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif
  5. Yeah, I also have zero idea how they're going to replace Cappy when they have no replacement. There isn't an option on either the MLB or AAA rosters that I can see. I was thinking the same thing when the threat was made by Yost. They better have a replacement in mind. The only thing worse than not making a change is making shallow ultimatums without making a change. Yost would have been far better off saying that we just don't have any choice but to keep sending Cappy out there and hope he turns it around.
  6. At some point, you have to trust your starting pitching to get deeper into some ballgames. If a 5 run lead, worn out bullpen, pitch count of 83 and only 1 run allowed isn't a situation you will trust your starter with, what is? I wholeheartedly agree with the emphasis on "have" there. It's true. The Brewers have no other choice left but to see if the starters can start working deeper into games. It's obvious by now that the formula of starters going 5 innings and then bullpen for 4 is not working out. It's just too much of a workload for a bullpen. What's next, a 14 man picthing staff? And to try and salvage this bullpen the further step that needs to be taken is to let guys work more than 1 inning at a time. Use 1 guy 2 innings and have one guy useless for tommorrow instead of two.
  7. A thread drawing a parallel of the Brewers to a near dynasty, one that went to two consecutive world championships, and predicting playoff appearances for the next 2 years is far from negative.

  9. I will guarantee you that if Suppan gave up a 3-spot in the inning and the Brewers blew the game, you would have had people calling for Yost's head as well. Once Yost made that decision to pull Soup, he played the bullpen out the best he could have. See my post above. Yost doesn't care what the fans say. He better not be making decisions to avoid criticism. We need our starters to work further into the game to lessen the load on the bullpen. He's stated as much himself over and over. The Brewers are going nowhere if our bullpen continues to be over-worked. In my mind that leaves one option. Ride those starters when given the opportunity. Today was a perfect opportunity. Either they lose this thing one way, ( an overworked bullpen continually blowing leads) or we lose it by pushing our starters and their failure to respond. At least with the starters there remains the possibilty of a good outcome. If the Brewers are going to win anything their starters have to be capable of going beyond 83 pitches with 5 run leads. Today Yost missed another opportunity to find out.
  10. It's micro-managing a 5 run game. Not only did it fail, but even if it had succeeded it would have further taxed a bullpen that our GM pointed out has hit the wall a full month earlier than can usually be expected. And a good reason this micro-managing failed today is because you're calling on 6 players to be successful instead of 2 or 3. You're relying on 6 tired, weary guys instead of 2-3 tired, weary guys. Play with fire, you're gonna get burnt. Simply put, Yost needs to start seizing every opportunity to have his starters go along as possible. And he needs to start using relievers for more than 1 inning at a time. 5 run leads are not as common as we'd like to think they are. A starter at 83 pitches and 1 run allowed has to work further into the game. If you really think about it what does Yost have to lose? He almost has no choice but to leave starters out there in these situation. You can argue, what if Suppan implodes and blows it? We have to find out. They're not gonna hold on and win this thing by further taxing our bullpen. If the Brewers are going to pull this thing out the starters have to eat up more innings. And don't give me this stuff about the criticism Yost would get if he leaves Suppan in and he blows it. yost deosn't care about the criticism from fans, why should we?
  11. It's August. Shouldn't our starters be extended to 110-120 pitches by now in these type of games. 1 run through 5 and 2/3 innings, 83 pitches, and a 5 run lead = bullpen time? I'd love to hear from rluzinski what percentage of major league baseball games are played where one team holds a lead of 5 runs or more. It's probably an eye-opening small percentage. Games like today are where you use 1-2 pitchers, not 5 before you have even given back 1 run of a 5 run lead.
  12. You are really overlooking the fact that the relievers that got pulled were not exactly effective. Absolutely not. In fact quite the opposite. The 1st 2 pitchers used in this game were very effective and both could have and should have gone longer.
  13. I don't believe Brewer Fever was implying that Yost blew the game, he was simply using today's game as an example of how Yost mismanages his bullpen This poster speaks the truth.
  14. I agree it's not Yost's fault that Wise and Cordero failed to get the job done. What you have to consider is the fact that when you rely on 6 pitchers to do the job that 3 could have done, you open up the door to realizing the odds of running into an ineffective pitcher. Instead of relying on 3 players to do their job effectively, you rely on 6. It's like playing Russina roulette. You pull the trigger 3 times with good results and probaly could have finished the game, with just 3 pulls of the trigger, yet you instead insist on pulling the trigger 6 times. And again. that's not even touching on the fact that every time you pull the trigger there's wear and with more and more wear and tear the gun become more susceptible to malfunction.
  15. It's no exaggeration. There is a GENERAL attempt to focus negativity into 1 thread. Of course a few threads remain where negative spin is cast but I think you guys have made it pretty clear that posts or threads with a negative tone are best suited for the vent thread. It's 115 pages! How could I be accused of exaggeration with that readily apparent fact. Many negative threads are locked regardless of their level of substance and directed to the vent thread. That's why the vent thread is 115 pages. People feel as though if they have something negative to point out they should go to the vent thread. It's starting to throw off the balance of level debate. You guys are succeeding in condensing the space taken by the pessimistic but in my opinion have created a far more embarrasing, black mark for this site with a 115 page vent thread on page 1 of the message board that continually stares visitors in the face.

  17. You've basically made the same point in 2 threads now, but since you weren't blunt about the negatives, this will probaly fly under the radar. Interestingly both threads predominantly mention the bullpen situation we find ourselves in.
  18. Darn right I'm frustrated. You and I talked in the chat room the other day about situations just like today where 5-6 pitchers are used in 5+ run games and you asked for examples. I bring it up today and try to point out where fewer pitchers could have been used and it gets locked before the topic can be explored. I would love to here from rluzinksi regarding how often a team has a 5 run or more lead or deficit. The hight percentage of baseball is played with 4 run spreads or less. When you have 5 run leads or trail by 5, you just can't be using 6 pitchers if it can be avoided. And it defintely could have been avoided today. But an overzealous thread locking policy and trying to direct all negativity into one thread has created an embarrassing 115 page vent thread.

  20. Management here is apparently concerned that having too many threads pointing out negatives will look bad. But doesn't a 115-page vent thread look far, far worse?

  22. It probaly would be a decent situation for the forum issues board, but of course if it were there, no one would see it and the problem of locking WAY, WAY too many threads would remain hush, hush.

  24. All we apparently need is an in-game thread, a transactions thread, a vent thread, and a praise all that is Brewers thread. Seriously, every topic could fall under one of those 4 threads. Geebus, you try to start a relevant discussion of continued bullpen mismanagemt, provide the example that others have asked for, and declare your intent to give more and the darn thing gets locked. Would it be met well if I flooded the vent thread with 100's of posts of historical bullpen data. Wouldn't that turn that thread into a bullpen discussion. I guess we can't have a negative bullpen discussion without it being looped into a vent thread only topic. This is getting ridiculous and I would love to know how this locking of threads hasn't gone too far. I didn't post a one sentence rant about how horrible the bullpen is. That's a vent.
