  1. That assessment is pretty much right on. Except things often end with flurry of curse words rather than a "phew".
  2. That's horrible managing regardless of the result. That was ball three. And if Yost continues to manage like that, we will blow many leads just like last year. Wow! You can only win so often with smoke and mirrors.
  3. Hello Yost, are you awake? Getting coffee?
  4. Are you telling me no one was up and ready in the bullpen? That's piss poor managing.
  5. The bottom line is Braun needs the protection more than Prince. I think that was obvious last year. I've seen Prince hit homeruns off his shoetops and up at his shoulders...Braun not so much. Braun hits (destroys) strikes. Prince can hit anything.
  6. Props to Fielder and Braun for stepping up and making the request to their thick-skulled manager.
  7. The world is a liveable place again.
  8. He was clearly safe. Wright applied the tag as Braun was on his way up to the standing position after his foot planted on the bag.
  9. Gobias, you make a good point. Without getting into the whole lineup 1 thru 9, I could definitely see it that way as well. Rickie in the 2-hole would mean he'd be seeing alot of fastballs.
  10. No. Bush should be given a shot in the bullpen where he belongs. He's a two-pitch pitcher who has shown great control throughout his career. Good control with only two pitches, with one of those pitches being an average fastball does not bode well for trying to go through a lineup multiple times. But great control and 2 pitches can add up to a very effective career as a reliever who sees a batter once an appearance.
  11. Who knows, maybe if his bat were to get going his defense might improve right along with it. And yes it does suck that we really haven't the perfect candidate to bat leadoff. Hart and Weeks seem the closest to the mold, but it seems like Hart handles the spot better in his limited exposure. I'd flip them in the lineup. And if Weeks does what I think he's capable of when the reigns are taken off, I think he could eventually be moved up behind Prince who clearly should be batting clean-up with free-swinging Braun ahead of him. This is the lineup that we should transition to... Hart Cameron Braun Fielder Weeks Hall Hardy Pitcher Kendall It will probably never happen or it will come too late with Mr. Pigeon-Hole filling out the lineup card. I mean he forced this leadoff thing on Rickie because he pictures him as a guy with all the physical tools of a leadoff guy. And now he's forcing Braun to protect Prince requiring him to be more selective without the protection that he'd get if they were flip-flopped. The problem in both these cases is that neither of those players have the menatlity to fill those roles. But all that be damned in the mind of Ned Yost. Square pegs must be pounded into round holes.
  12. He's miscast in the leadoff role. Sure he has a high OBP but that doesn't mean he's a natural leadoff guy. He's being a good soldier and trying to work deep into the count. But all that does is make him watch early count fastballs and fall behind in the count. Then he finds himself swinging at breaking pitches to stay alive...clearly not his strength. When the pitcher is missing with those get-me-over fastballs and Weeks finds himself ahead in the count, he shifts into "bat on the shoulder mode" and tries to draw the walk as any good soldier would do in the leadoff role. It's completely stripped him of the aggresiveness to go after fastballs early in the count. Look at what he did on the 1st pitch versus Lilly. Get him out of the leadoff spot and relieve him of that mentality and I think you'll see better numbers. The question is will that change in roles occur in Milwaukee or somewhere else. I hope he gets a chance to be more of a run producer here because I fear he might live up to his ability somewhere else. You guys compare him to Brandon Phillips. Phillips is batting clean-up.
  13. This is allright, steal 2nd open up first, walk JJ, and then clear Sheets for next inning.
  14. I gotta admit, I thought the Gabe Kapler experiment would be short-lived and ugly. Way to prove me wrong Gabe. Now if only our 3 and 4 hitters would get going.
  15. How about a 6-man rotation for a couple months. That would keep down everyone's innings.
  16. A run in 3 straight innings, good work boys.
  17. Ben can hit a soft tossing lefty. I have confidence in him.
  18. Time for our big boppers to do some damage.
  19. FSN really needs to fine tune their camera work.
  20. I think that might be the most dominant 1st inning I've ever seen him throw.
  21. Braun in the 2nd inning of game 2.
  22. I got nothing to say other than... YES!!!!!
  23. Looks like the Cubs just bought themselves another piece of the puzzle.
