  1. OK, after a couple of hits allowed, Root finally gets the ground out for a force to end the inning. Disappointing half inning there as Letson just lost command, and Root gave up some hard contact (and soft contact too). Needs to offense to work through the April Wisconsin cold here, and get something going.
  2. Welp. Root gets 2 strikes quickly, but then a couple of pitches later and Doncon just crushed it. A no doubt HR to left center. 3-1 for Cedar Rapids. Letson with 2 ER, after cruising through the first 3 innings. Need to limit the damage here. One more out on a grounder to Baez. Need to get another out here. ..... And then offense needs to get going.
  3. Oof. Given a lead, Letson is losing his command in the 4th. Sruggling. Now at 60 pitches with back to back walks and a few pitches missed badly. EDIT: and after the second walk, he is out, with 1 out and 2 runners (both via walks) on base, and Root is in.
  4. HBP, bloop single by Yophery, walk by Areinamo, and then another HBP to Burke and it's 1-0, but Baez grounds out to pitcher. On to the 4th.
  5. Letson was solid through 3 IP. 4 K, 1 H. 43 pitches. And it is "Garcia Day" for the T-Rats as Eduardo, David and Yhoswar all in the line up. But nothing going for the TRats offense still. Really nothing since 1st inning last night. Let's get some hits and base runners please?
  6. Will defer to others who can recall. I thought he was up to 90-91 mph max last year. If he can get to 92, with that poise, command, spin and off speed stuff he can play in upper levels for sure. EDIT: I reviewed BA prospect report on M. Rodriguez, and to paraphrase (info for subscribers) is that he pitches 88-90 and max was 92, which is what I recalled, but has high spin, and has slider, cutter and change up, with the slider being a very good pitch. And you will get the same info from the post game report for 4/4: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/timberrattlersreview/episodes/Manuel-Rodriguez-Announces-His-Presence-With-Authority-e314mki So IF he can get his velo up a few ticks (think 92-93 with a max of 95) then you have a solid mid to back of rotation pitcher. But that's a lot of IF in that sentence. He is 19 years old by the way, in high A. EDIT#2: OK, as I'm reading these reports again, it makes me feel so old that when I see a lot of the Brewers pitchers with fastball velo of 91-95 as average or below average, boy I remember the late 90s and early 00s when our pitchers (not named Sheets) were all 89-91, and those who hit 95+ were high end. Now its 95 average, and 98+ as high end.
  7. I hope he doesn't but that is for good reasons, and hear me out. First off - he hasn't had much consistency or pitched deep into games, Out of 44 career starts I counted about 10 total where he went 5 IP or more. Several were of the back to back variety with multiple inconsistent or shorter starts in-between. So that should be his primary focus if he were to be a MLB starter. A call up in the next few weeks would likely be for bullpen role. But the bigger reason I hope note is since he is not on the 40-man right now, then the main reason we would bring him up so soon in the season would be for multiple injuries, so I hope that does not happen. I would rather the Milwaukee pitching staff get some health back (Mears, Quintana could hopefully return in the next couple of weeks for example, with Woodruff, Ashby, Civale all on the 15-day IL as opposed to Hall). If he can take a step forward in the next several starts, and maintain it, I would absolutely love for Miz to force his way for a call-up, but right now an April/May call up would seem like it would occur out of need and I hope the big league club doesn't create more holes/needs and gets guys back healthy.
  8. First of all - awesome job it is so nice to see a Full Minor League Report. Baseball is back :) So I read this - and with a full week of Nashville vs Gwinnett, the Stripers were on your mind 😂, but I went to look up Pensacola's team name and found some interesting info in the Wikipedia page including that this franchise is essentially the same as the Carolina Mudcats (complicated business deals in the Wikipedia link), and that a Wahoo is a fish, which is all I was trying to learn, but check this out for the team's complex history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pensacola_Blue_Wahoos This doesn't completely explain it - as the double was in the gap but I think could have been caught by the RF (Nicasia) who looked like he took a bad angle and the ball went right over his glove. Not sure how hard some of the hits were as the camera angles were pretty poor for some of these hits, but it seems a couple of his infield hits allowed were either not fielded well or solidly hit. He did have the batters off balance once he settled in during the 2nd/3rd inning. And thanks for the shout out on Dinges comments - he did look good - and boy I hope he is OK after that HBP on the hand.
  9. Wow. I guess I didn’t factor that in - pretty talented arms there.
  10. Looks like a solid win in Zebulon by the Muddies. But that may be it for the minors tonight. Biloxi went quietly - Pratt and Wilken at least had hits. Didnt' watch any of that yet. The TRats looked good with Rodriguez and the offense had traffic in the first 2 innings with the chances to strike, but did not and then essentially went down 1-2-3 most every inning from the 3rd on and have the last chances now in the 8th inning down 4-0. Nashville seems like they just somehow let that game slip away, and the winning pitcher was our old friend Enoli Paredes.
  11. Manuel Rodriguez was what he is, very composed, in command mostly (had a long 4th inning), but outmatched the hitters who are no slouches (a lot of high '23 and '24 picks for the Twins). His offspeed seemed to fool the hitters, and his fastball was effective even if only 87-88. He is young and it is early April in Wisconsin, so I hope that he may have more velo in him. He could survive with 91-93 mph with his offspeed stuff and command and poise. Very impressive as he looks like a starter - except for that velo on the FB.
  12. Hostetler looked good in his start. HE was pretty efficient, worked quick and was usually around the plate. I know he has a fastball that is low to mid 90s (I heard 94-95 on one call I believe), and has a change. Not sure what his other pitches are. The defense let him down (error in the OF when Payne/Nadal almost ran into each other in the 1st; and a few infield hits that are hard to know given the lack of cameras going to the field with some hits; and Nicasia missed a hard hit liner that he could have had with a better angle I think). Also of note, Dinges looked good as a C, handled the pitchers well, and had a CS. But bad HBP on his hand, I hope it is nothing serious but he knew right away he was hurt. Ugh. Pena looked comfortable at the plate. Payne and Bitonti looked good. Made did look a little overmatched, maybe the hype train is a heavy load to carry.
  13. I plan on watching his outing later today or tomorrow morning. We can compare notes if you watch it. Gonna watch a few games on delay tonight or in the AM.
  14. Agree Joseph. I am not good at recognizing the pitches, but he struggled and seemed to find some consistency mid 2nd inning that helped, but his first 30 or so pitches he was struggling with command, and his last 2 innings he was either back to his baseline FB/change only approach, or developed some better command. I want him to work on the secondary pitches as his FB is 92-94, so he will not get by with that velocity alone. A work in progress and I suspect he will be in AAA for the majority of the year to hone that part of his arsenal.
  15. Solid win by the Sounds. Big inning, solid pitching. Bigger plate ‘o games tomorrow night….
  16. I may have mistaken his slider for curve, as the announcer didn't call it much and no velo on the broadcast feed. I was not watching live so didn't cross references pitches in statcast
  17. Henderson was a little erratic in the first, but 5 solid scoreless innings was in a groove 3rd-5th innings. Gave up 5 BB, but had 8K, and only 3 hits - all singles.
  18. Offense got a spark. Durbin with a solid double to left center. Then EMJ with a liner down the third base line to score two. Then 3 pitches later Alfaro with a HR. 4-0 Sounds. Henderson gets through the 3rd with a good outing. Looks like he may have located maybe slider or change better?
  19. Logan took an inning to get going again. Command was eluding him the first few batters. But then settled in the end of the 1st and was better in the 2nd. But not great look starting slow the first 2 starts of the season.
  20. Yeah Nuke had a much higher BB rate, but man his K rate was crazy. But more in the one good start, one bad start and he may need to be a reliever. I remember back then I was like "Oh Neugie can't be a reliever we haven't developed a starter is so long that he and Gold HAVE to be starters". Sigh. (But we did get Sheet and Gallardo a few years later, and then Burnes/Woodruff/Peralta for 3-4 magical seasons) Still hopeful on Miz, but I do worry that his control is not there yet, and he still has a way to go to be someone I can trust for 5-7 IP every 5 days.
  21. He had a great outing last July I believe, so I will need to see this start to start. He is still giving me this generation's Nick Neugebauer vibes with his inconsistent outings.
  22. mea culpa. I think that was auto-correct I think you can have my back on that one, Joseph, as I know I typed his name at least a dozen times last season.
  23. Wow Edgardo Ordonez who logged 30 games at the ACL in '24 and 26 games in '23, skips past low A to join the TRats - either they think highly of him, OR he became a warm body 3rd catcher. Love to see that young pitching staff - M. Rodriguez, Letson, Corniel, D. Sanchez who join '24 draftees T. Hardin and C. Welch. Odd that Jeremy Vargas is not included.
  24. Interesting that Johan Barrios did not make the Carolina roster. Tyler Rodriguez as well. Both had good showings at the ACL summer league, so either injury (boy that has been typed way too much this month), poor showing, or just a roster crunch. If the latter - Walling and DiTuri have better show up or they both risk being left behind (moved down or released). Excited to see Wande Torres and Bryce Meccage make the team, plus several drafted and non-drafted pitchers from last season (T. Smith, Holobetz as other draftees; Gills, Langhorne, Hostetler, Seppings, Hodges). Odd that no DeBerry is there. Odd that Timmerman is still in low A, being joined by '23 HS draftee Bjorn Johnson.
  25. Did I miss this? I thought Quero was starting the year at AA. Maybe he starts on IL to get extended at bats while building up arm strength?? O'Rae was missing the last week in minor league line ups, and was reported at some event/function that Mass/Jim posted about in Canada. I hope nothing is wrong with Wichrowski, but with the way this season is going Wich is probably sidelined... 😡
